It would not work if its a conventional staircase as it seems like a rotation about horizontal axis, a stairway would most likely would have other stairs that would block this rotation atleast partially. So instead you can put a chair in your house that had a hole below it.

Completely unrelated to the video but I find it interesting that the Trial Chambers are made of both Tuff and Copper and those two block types have gotten golems in previous mob votes.
