The one thing that Dallas lacked was size in the middle that’s why these trades were so important. Daniel Gafford, a very high volume shooter in the restricted area is also a very good offensive rebounder; but the more important player in the trades was PJ Washington; a stretch four who can guard any position on the floor and can also shoot from deep. The key for the Mavericks playoff run is to keep Kyrie Irving healthy. Derek Lively has been a surprise rookie for them as well.

Dallas is a prime example of the modern structure of NBA rosters. Having two elite players who can be their own system, but also having a system for them and centered around them full of key role players who can shoot, defend, and finish around the rim and a third option. The Kicks, Bucks, Nuggets, Celtics, etc etc also prove this. You no longer NEED a big three to succeed
@spark_city96399 ай бұрын
Honestly none of these are good examples because of a third guy ie OG Annunoby/Bojan for the Knicks, Aaron Gordon/MPJ for the Nuggets, and Celtics for Jrue Holiday and Porzingis...all of whom are worlds better than Dallas's third best player in PJ Washington/Gafford? Bucks are the best to relate to this in Khris Middleton, but they've been on a poor streak too
@pavelmakarov35659 ай бұрын
You never even needed a big three tho. Heat were a one-off, and Lebron made it look like teaming up is a new way to go. Thinking about it, Lebron's success delusioned the whole league that's only now starting to remember that system would always beat individuals

Watching the suns game, the suns went small to start the 3rd and the Mavs went on a huge run and never looked back thanks to their bigs in Maxi and Gafford the suns could not get a rebound or get anything in the paint. @SinaSoh9 ай бұрын
That loss/tank job to the Bulls late last year was a franchise changing (for the better) moment. If the Mavs beat the Bulls they probably end up with the 11th pick and that pick goes to NY as a part of the Porzinguz trade. Dallas held on to the number 10 pick and it stayed with them, the bulls ended up with 11. Thiss allowed Dallas to get off Bertans contract and trade down to get Lively. Liveley would have gotten easily swooped up by the Lakers, Heat or Warriors.

I don't think losing Brunson was a mistake. Brunson needed to go to New York to develop more. Dallas getting Kyrie and tanking also wasn't a mistake. Missing out on Kyrie during the Off-Season would have been a grave mistake. I traded Gafford in 2K24 because the plays that I was getting for him were always a screen and fade with him as the screener. I didn't like that because there should be no reason he should be fading out to the 3 without a shot where he could've been a great lob threat. This was on the Wizards, not Dallas. I hated those plays because it'll come up as an empty possession and a bad shot to anyone else. I wanted to keep him, but those screen and fade plays broke me to trade him.

2:36 Zero FRP to trade? If you mean between now and the beginning of next season, that is correct, but nobody can trade in that time period. This offseason, the Mavs tradeable FRPs: 1. their own '26 and '31 outright 2. either '25 (most likely) or '24, depending on whether the pick owed to NYK conveys this summer (top-10 protected) 3. '28, for which OKC has swap rights, and '30, for which SAS has swap rights -- not as attractive, but definitely tradeable I'm not saying they should, but they can send out as many as 3 picks (one of them subject to a 3rd team exercising their swap rights) 2:40 All in? Aside from the pick situation above, they still have Josh Green, Jaden Hardy, OMax, and THJ's expiring contract as far as assets The Mavs will be a problem and they have not yet run out of trade capital they can use to improve during the offseason
