The Mavericks went all in at the trade deadline and ran off a 7-game win streak. They are still in 8th place which shows how competitive the Western Conference is this year. This is now the best roster Luka has had in Dallas and there’s a chance they make the NBA Finals right away.

The one thing that Dallas lacked was size in the middle that’s why these trades were so important. Daniel Gafford, a very high volume shooter in the restricted area is also a very good offensive rebounder; but the more important player in the trades was PJ Washington; a stretch four who can guard any position on the floor and can also shoot from deep. The key for the Mavericks playoff run is to keep Kyrie Irving healthy. Derek Lively has been a surprise rookie for them as well.

PJ has a -5 BPM, and a 4 PER since joining the Mavs. It wouldn't be a stretch to say he is the worst player in the league who's playing considerable minutes.

@ZackAttack1295 They are comparable in just about every stat category this year. Poole is certainly not 'much worse' but he is probably a little worse on the year. However, specifically since joining the Mavs, PJ is playing noticeably worse. Check their stats if you don't believe me.

Dallas is a prime example of the modern structure of NBA rosters. Having two elite players who can be their own system, but also having a system for them and centered around them full of key role players who can shoot, defend, and finish around the rim and a third option. The Kicks, Bucks, Nuggets, Celtics, etc etc also prove this. You no longer NEED a big three to succeed
@spark_city9639
@spark_city9639 7 ай бұрын
Honestly none of these are good examples because of a third guy ie OG Annunoby/Bojan for the Knicks, Aaron Gordon/MPJ for the Nuggets, and Celtics for Jrue Holiday and Porzingis...all of whom are worlds better than Dallas's third best player in PJ Washington/Gafford? Bucks are the best to relate to this in Khris Middleton, but they've been on a poor streak too
@pavelmakarov3565
@pavelmakarov3565 7 ай бұрын
You never even needed a big three tho. Heat were a one-off, and Lebron made it look like teaming up is a new way to go. Thinking about it, Lebron's success delusioned the whole league that's only now starting to remember that system would always beat individuals

Size and athleticism unlocked something big for this team. Watching the suns game, the suns went small to start the 3rd and the Mavs went on a huge run and never looked back thanks to their bigs in Maxi and Gafford the suns could not get a rebound or get anything in the paint. Normally you sacrifice speed and spacing with a big lineup vs small ball but that was not an issue with how athletic their bigs are. Then the suns go big again, mavs go small and suns could not keep up. Very dangerous lineups

That loss/tank job to the Bulls late last year was a franchise changing (for the better) moment. If the Mavs beat the Bulls they probably end up with the 11th pick and that pick goes to NY as a part of the Porzinguz trade. Dallas held on to the number 10 pick and it stayed with them, the bulls ended up with 11. Thiss allowed Dallas to get off Bertans contract and trade down to get Lively. Liveley would have gotten easily swooped up by the Lakers, Heat or Warriors.

I don't think losing Brunson was a mistake. Brunson needed to go to New York to develop more. Dallas getting Kyrie and tanking also wasn't a mistake. Missing out on Kyrie during the Off-Season would have been a grave mistake. I traded Gafford in 2K24 because the plays that I was getting for him were always a screen and fade with him as the screener. I didn't like that because there should be no reason he should be fading out to the 3 without a shot where he could've been a great lob threat. This was on the Wizards, not Dallas. I hated those plays because it'll come up as an empty possession and a bad shot to anyone else. I wanted to keep him, but those screen and fade plays broke me to trade him.

I said this as well, even the amount of times he’s made the all star team is affected. He’s still made it 8x, but 2015-16 he would probably make it if he didn’t start the year injured and have to ramp up, 2019-20 he was averaging 27 but had to get shoulder surgery,2021-22 he was averaging 27 but the vaccine mandate. He would be an 11x all star in my opinion but those 3 circumstances cut it to 8.

They also have tradable contracts like THj and others. They have a contending window of a few years before Kai gets too old and they have room to change some things up if stuff isn’t working. It’s definitely not a win it all or bust type of year. Nico has done an amazing job the past year building a new team. I’m excited to see what he cooks up next.

2:36 Zero FRP to trade? If you mean between now and the beginning of next season, that is correct, but nobody can trade in that time period. This offseason, the Mavs tradeable FRPs: 1. their own '26 and '31 outright 2. either '25 (most likely) or '24, depending on whether the pick owed to NYK conveys this summer (top-10 protected) 3. '28, for which OKC has swap rights, and '30, for which SAS has swap rights -- not as attractive, but definitely tradeable I'm not saying they should, but they can send out as many as 3 picks (one of them subject to a 3rd team exercising their swap rights) 2:40 All in? Aside from the pick situation above, they still have Josh Green, Jaden Hardy, OMax, and THJ's expiring contract as far as assets The Mavs will be a problem and they have not yet run out of trade capital they can use to improve during the offseason

I like how you said Lively obviously isn't as good as Wemby......like we didn't already know that 🤣. Lively is an amazing young talent......Wemby is Alien lol.

Everyone keeps bringing up the Jalen Brunson thing but fail to mention that he & Luka were drafted in the same year and developed into the player he is now bc of his time in Dallas. It happened big deal, Don Nelson jr. Lost his job bc of it and the Mavs made out with a BETTER player in Kyrie. Since sports media are super glazers and seem to let it go how about we remind them of how the clippers absolutely dropped the ball by TRADING AWAY SGA for Paul George 🤷🏽‍♂️. It’s a perfect example bc just like we only seen glimpses of what Brunson might become in Dallas, Clippers only saw glimpses in SGA. That said… let it tf go smh

Luka is the clear MVP to me. The only player close is Jokic. You can't show me one person that would pick Shai over Luka if it's just based on the Player. So much for value ...

They’re looking better but they’ve only played 5 games since the deadline and 2 of them were against the Spurs and Wizards 😂

Dallas is currently 8th seed in the West and they may miss the playoff again. You have Phoenix, Golden State, Los Angeles and Dallas all fighting for the last spot.

The Mavericks will have a problem as long as they have Luke Donut. I don't care about how good he is offensively. He will never be a champion because Donut cannot play hard when it matters. He will not defend when it matters, he will be gassed when it matters, he will not hustle when it matters. Same with Irving. I remember a year ago there was an article praising Donut when he said he was actually going to get in shape.....which never happened.........but when do you praise a guy for doing what they were supposed to do? Since when was strength and conditioning NOT part of the deal?

I enjoyed your analysis until you went on a tangent about Cuban,& JB.First off you called Cuban a liar, because of bs excuse JB uses for leaving.He said he heard crickets which is exactly what he should ve heard.Nobody should be talking up until the F/A period opened.Because him and New York chose to disregard the rules don t make Cuban a liar.If he really wanted to stay he would have at least met with them when the Dallas contingency flew to New York to offer deal ,but he had already signed with NY. He made a freaking choice I hate the finger pointing back at Cuban to somewhat make him the victim of his own choice to go where he really wanted to be in 1st place.heck he s better for his choice,I believe the Mavs are too,by being able to make moves that they wouldn't have been able to had they won the JB sweepstakes.
