Different cars entirely, the Turbo cab is a rocket ship that's really good to drive for a drivers car and most enthusiasts will buy the Turbo cab. The SL63 AMG is an isolated warp drive car for people who have little to no interest in driver involvement but want to go really fast in luxury, it's taken a lot of the tech from the outgoing S Class Coupe which was killed off in 2020, it's now the flagship Mercedes. Also it's not air suspension which they keep saying in this video it's hydraulic.

1:45 Eh, the SLS came in at 5-600 pounds less than the current SL63, so for what it's worth, the SLS was probably the most recent "light" iteration of this car, especially considering the SLS is also the direct predecessor to it (SLS, AMG GT, new SL63 since all three were built by AMG.) SL also originally meant "sport light" (1:52); the SLS did break out to "super light sport" though. 2:53 lots of hate for the new SL; the car is intended to be a complete reboot, so it's not unsurprising that new buyers might actually want to track it. Ready to get another SL. But I'm not buying this car. After living with the glass roof Twin Turbo V12 roadster, there's just no going back to the cloth roof. There's no substitute for the Black Series V12 muscle either [w/ RennTech ECU reflash]. $90k will be a good downpayment on a pristine 5k mile 2009 SL65 and it's appreciating in value. These new SL's won't be appreciating in value because the glass roof V12 experience is extinct and no amount of technology can make dedicated SL buyers forget it. This is an SL for people who don't like SL's. When you shoot your shot -don't miss Mercedes.

@@jackmarston2515 You've been a fan but not an owner. If you were an owner you'd know the SL65 is much quicker on modern tires than originally tested. Most of the torque from the 604hp/738lb-ft Twin Turbo V12 went up in smoke on the OEM Pirelli PZero's. The real world Cup2 tire SL65 does 0-60 in 3.0 seconds flat and 10.9 in the quarter. Brake-torqued to 3000rpm and it just rips. Those Cup2's grip like racing slicks. Finally modern tire technology has caught up to the M275's torque. Even on stock 2009 PZeros 50-70mph passing is 2.3 sec for the SL65 vs 2.9 sec for the new SL63. Bottom line: none of these SL65's is on original showroom PZeros but by now have modern tires. Most owners know the secret to unlocking the true performance is mounting Michelin Cup2's. Because not even AWD can overcome that Twin Turbo V12's tidal wave of torque. PS: That's before modernization from RennTech's 70hp OBDII plug in tune combined with upgraded coil packs, NGK's Ruthenium spark plugs and Green Filter Co's air filters. That unlocks the next 100hp lol.

I feel like this doesn't really compete with the Vette or 911 Cab. Those are really just true sports cars but topless. This was designed as a luxury convertible from the start, and it's more of a comfy cruiser that will never ever see a track or maybe even a canyon. There definitely is a market for these, since I've already seen quite a few of them on the road and let me tell you, they look absolutely sick. It's a car a dentist would get when he gets into midlife crisis.

Just getting a used 2022 SL63 after trading in my 2010 M6 Competition Edition. Looked at M850i and M8, 911 4S (convertibles) as well. I do want all wheel drive living in Canada for a year round car (My M6 was useless haha in the winter and wet even with Pilot Sports but still loved it) but that ruled out other options like a Lexus which was only rear-wheel drive. The M850i was at a glance very similar look (but bigger) so just wanted something that felt more new and different. Yes the Porsche is a top drivers car but I will never be racing it (I am an old guy now) and there are so many Porsches on the road I just wanted something different. The AMG SL63 just ticked a lot of boxes and I just felt more comfortable in the drivers seat. Now I will be looking for a which college provides the best courses to get through all the tech :0) Cheers

At least Mercedes-AMG has finally mounted the brake calipers at the right spots, close to the center of the car instead of outboard for the rear calipers on some of its previous products. Yet still, that weight........my goodness.

The weights fine. Ask Paul walker what a plastic porsche got him.

"Whom is this car for" not "Who [sic]". It is for him (not for "he [sic]"). "Whom" and "him" correspond to the object of the verb. "Whom is it for? It is for him."

This was hard to watch. I felt like Matt understood the prospective buyer but then went on to mention cross shopping the C8......I was glad to see Zack pull his coat tail. The potential buyer of this car would cross shop this with the M8 or CGT if they wanted to spend more. The Porsche bias is getting a bit out of hand too.
@sebastiankaiser5165 Жыл бұрын
Actually the Porsche bias is totally warranted, since they are at the absolute top of their game while both Merc and BMW are totally confused and seem to not know what they want to be anymore. SL and 911 turbo always shared the same audience, if only for bragging rights. But while the 911 keeps on improving in the GT area and is basically on par with the SL now, the SL half-assedly tries to go sport where the Turbo eats its lunch.
@jackmarston2515 Жыл бұрын
@@sebastiankaiser5165That's a bunch of bullshit. Mercedes and BMW compete against luxury sports cars, of which a flimsy plastic VW porsche is not, with its .5 seconds faster acceleration time and worse everything else. If I want a over priced go fast VW bug, I'll look no further than a 911, thank you very much.

These guys should just say they prefer Porsche---I had a Porsche 911 Turbo yes quick but unrefined. If you can afford to buy ---if 0-60 is important go with Porsche---if that fraction of a second isn't important go with the SL I have had both and maybe it's age but I like the luxury of the SL---Porsche is rough...just my view
@aneebaba06 Жыл бұрын
Gald you guys liked it. Got to see one in the showrrom in SoCal before I left the region for good back in October. Definitely back to looking like a hot roadster. So is it no longer an old man car? Execs aren't necessarily old men right lol. The CEO of the company that owned the hospital I did residency at has an SL 65 from a few generations ago. Money being no object, I'd take the AMG GT as well.

Cool car/roadster. Yes, looks like it has way too much tech in it. Although I don’t have one, it would seem to be very distracting while driving. Porsche would be a better choice.

I hate rear steering, I wish auto manufacturers would allow you to turn it off completely or set it to only operate below 10 mph to help with parking. I'm willing to bet if the new SL didn't have a rear steering it would instantly feel more dialed in and planted, instead of the rear end moving around too much and messing with your sense of stability.
@jackmarston2515 Жыл бұрын
Except take it from an owner that it doesn't. It handles great. These guys don't even know the car they're reviewing. Honestly they don't.

@@jackmarston2515 Does it matter if they know exactly which SL or packages are on the car, how it drives is how it drives. I'm honestly curious, which SL and packages do you have? Which other sports cars have you owned to compare against? Cheers!!

This makes a lot more sense as a $150k SL55 than a fractionally quicker but $50k more SL63.
@jackmarston2515 Жыл бұрын
More like whole second quicker. It's funny but when a 911 turbo is .5 second quicker then it's not fractional anymore. Very interesting...this is why car culture is retarded and you guys make buying expensive cars just a little less fun.
