The whole point of this is really just to be a collectable for hardcore Nintendo fans more than an actual games console, although I really do wish we got some compilation of every Game & Watch game released since there's no official way to play most of these games. Luckily MAME now supports the whole Game & Watch library though, which is pretty cool. Would still love a Game & Watch Collection on Switch.

Well I don't know about the Game & Watch games in particular but this newly released Game & Watch has already been hacked and sooner rather than later we'll start seeing pretty much any NES rom become playable on this thing. The downside is it will require flashing the cfw on the board itself since it's not possible to insert an SD on this thing nor does it have internal storage or a way to transfer data from another device (the USB-C port is only connected to power wires, no data transfer wires). If that didn't require very specific hardware I think this thing would be cool to buy as a stylish, portable NES with the famous Nintendo build quality rather than that of cheap, Chinese retro handhelds. But since it does require very specific hardware, it's not worth it. As it stands it's basically an accessory for collectors but maybe in the future, with the help of the modding community, it can become a device worth buying to actually play games on. I'd seriously love to have one if that were in fact the case.

Not everyone owns a Switch and lots of people don’t want to shell out $300 to $350 for a Switch because they don’t know why they should. Getting people to try a Nintendo unit with a coupe of Mario games for $50 might be just enough to bring the pressure to buy a Switch later.

They have every intention to sell these as collectables for years to come. I think from a marketing perspective the unit is really creative. The Drawing Mario song was originally on the DSi flipnote app, I remember downloading it form the online part of the app and playing it a lot. I think the song was for the 25th anniversary, they also held a bunch of contest for people to submit their own drawing animations, I vividly remember the Zelda contest one.

I bought one and I have had it in my pocket for months. I bought a rg280v and use that too a lot, but I love how tiny, elegant, and simple this thing is. Nostalgia and no regrets. Mario 1 was my first game when I was young lad. More games would have been nice, but the simplicity is strangely satisfying. I've also had countless comments about the clock. I love clock.

The reason they've included SMB+SMB2 is purely to celebrate Mario's 35th Anniversary. And they didn't include more G&W games because they can use that for other future releases to celebrate other anniversaries. Take Zelda, for an instance... Its anniversary will come soon. But I see your point! Let's see what Nintendo has hidden under their sleeve for their future releases. But, to be honest with you, I don't think G&W remakes will end here. This is a new start. 😛

They didn't start with the idea of releasing the game and watch and then decide to put Super Mario Bros on it, they started with the idea of rereleasing Super Mario Bros and then decided to put it on a game and watch. I had a game and watch as a kid and this little device is like a dream little kid me had... it is so great for what the original GnW was supposed to be, a simple portable dedicated game system for kids. It would be nice to see a full nes library packed into one of these, which they could do easily, but it is super nice for what it is.

It's non hackable by the average people. The USB port has no data pin. Only power. The only way to hack it is by soldering to the flash pins and inject data directly. This is far from the NES mini where you just connect it to a pc and start a program.

@@MezzoForte4 The one I saw injected a hacked rom version of Mario 1 but somehow the G&W still patched the year and copyright from another location in the flash memory. That probably mean that even switching the Mario rom for a different game wouldn't work without reprogramming the entire device. It's a shame really because I would buy it if there was a possibility to add other games.

Honestly, I was on the fence about this, but ended up getting it because I have the heart of a collector. And I'm really impressed by it. The version of SMB and SMB2j on here is really a definitive edition, with bugs fixed, save ram implemented, the ability to do a level warp from the title screen, and the ability to play with infinite lives (necessary for SMB2j). And yes, I could get this all through hacking, but there's something about it being official that makes it special. I thought I was going to hate the rubber buttons, but they are far more responsive than my 3DS's. This little device is the most fun I've had playing Super Mario Bros in decades.

I think the reason the Game and Watch came out with Mario Bros. 1 and Mario Bros. 2 Japan (or Mario Bros. The Lost Levels) was because the Game and Watch isn’t very well know to the average consumer. Most people believe the NES was Nintendo’s first product.

They didn't put other Game & Watch games on it because it's for Super Mario Bros. 35th anniversary. Your forgetting the entire reason they made it in the first place.

The way I see it, this is just a collectors thing. The value isn't the games on it, but as you said, it's a beautiful little thing. It has already been hacked so it's just a matter of time before we're able to play any NES game on it.

Ahhhhh!!! I had the Mario drawing song in all of the languages on my flipnote studio!! Nintendo had a download for all of them from Hatena, so I remember scooping them up before Flipnote Hatena went down. I still have them on my DSi :)

I get that Mario bros is on about everything already but what I like about this little guy is the concept that Mario bros is it’s “sole” purpose. I would love to see a Zelda version of this that also has a single game n watch game to compliment it. In the spirit of game n watch having just one game this suits the legacy well. Also it’s my new favorite way to play Mario. I hardly re visit it

Why does it only have one Game & Watch game on there? Because it's not meant to be a Game & Watch Classic Edition. It's meant to be a Super Mario Bros 35th Anniversary product. That's why.

This year is the 35th anniversary of Mario, which is why it was released. I would love a game and watch collection, but it's really only for memory sake.
