As someone who has both, I prefer the pro over max because pro is perfect size and weight for edc, moonlight is also better on the pro as I found the max to be to bright for moonlight mode, also love the throw of the pro. Both are absolutely great lights. Thanks for review.

Great demo! Yea, just like you said...depends on the use. Walking down a wooded trail I would prefer the Pro Max with the wider pattern. In an open field, the Pro for the throw. I already have the Pro, but plan to pick up the Max when the sale starts. Thanks for the Vid :)

I much prefer the beam on the baton 3 pro for general every day use, that being said I ended up buying the pro max, I also like the floody beam for walking in the woods / trails at night where you don’t need as much throw.

Thanks for the review! I have the Pro Max and I agree with the "Shake to see battery life" feature. It's too sensitive and keeps going off. I'd prefer if it were to recognize a shake and not going off from simply being tilted or shifted from a different position. It's not a deal breaker, but gets irritating at times.

4:16 you can permanently disable the proximity censor is you put it in the charger and do what you do to turn it off temporarily but on the charger

Thank you for this interesting comparison. In fact, it places the Baton 3 Pro Max in a strange position. After seeing the night shots, I would complement my Baton 3 Pro with the Seeker 3 Pro. It makes more sense to me.

I have to totally agree on the size difference. Although it isn’t that big of a difference but it’s too much for be. I have the S2R and it’s the perfect size. I also with they would do more titanium versions

Olight made them different for a good reason. The pro max has a much wider flood to quickly detect things. I have a thrower that is only a bit bigger that has a half mile reach. I use both for what they are meant to do. When you try to get it all in one it suffers somewhat in both.

I like olight but found a good pocket thrower from thrunite. I prefer the looks and quality of olights but made an exception for the thrubite tn12 pro. It's only $50. I wanted this olight or the wm2 but can't argue with the increased throw and candela of the tn 12 pro. If you ever want to review one that would be awesome as your the best reviewer when it comes to flashlights. I will upload a video of it when it arrives because there are not too many reviews of it. I usually like olight better.

I have the Baton Pro Max in WW (Warm White) and it resides on my night stand. Great for use late at night. I have ordered the Baton Pro Max in NW (Neutral White), which means you have a choice of black or black. I am disappointed that the Magnesium version only comes in CW (Crappy White). Glad that Olight at least offered the NW somewhere, but wish they would offer the NW option more widely. After all some of us like/need to distinguish colors with the flashlight.

They will eventually. Since this is a new flashlight they’re limited in colors but will typically offer more colors down the road.

The pro all day long. I have nearly every olight on the market but the battery life on the pro is crazy good. Still haven't charged it after moderate use for 3 weeks. Still green. The throw is also much better on the pro and it carries better.

Great review. I'm just curious did Olight remove the info on the 3 Pro having a proximity sensor? My 3 Pro not the Max does not have a prox sensor and nowhere on the website does it state it has one. I read from the fan page that theirs has one. Do older models have one and since there were issues with it, did Olight remove it from newer production models?

I have one of the early models of the Baton 3 Pro that has a proximity sensor. Olight sent me an email offering to refund my light or have it sent in to disable the proximity sensor because they had complaints about it being too sensitive and flickering on and off. I have experienced this issue with mine, but I decided to keep it because I found that wiping the lens with a clean microfiber cloth fixed the issue. Apparently, a dirty lens and even a fingerprint is enough to set the proximity switch on and off randomly. Easy fix though. They told me that they were going to disable the proximity sensors on all of the Baton 3 Pros before shipping them out from now on. Hope this helps! 😉

You don’t have to forcefully shake the light to check the battery level. Look at the instructions. You orient the light about 90 or so and back somewhat fast like a twist of a wrist and it will work too

I pick mine up and it let's me know. I twist it and it let's me know. I hold it and make weird moves with it, I get frustrated and then do something simple and it let's me know. Good thing that mechanism is supposed to be the most minimalist use of the battery.

I bought the 3ProMax in warm white and i hate it, its too warm and also the lumens are less then on cool or neutral. A way better warm is on my Fenix hm65r-dt (nebula). And even on Sofirn hs10, with a high cri, too. The good thing is now i get another spare 21700 for my other lights!

Pro Max is very compelling, _especially_ in the magnesium body BUT, 21700 battery lights are pretty borderline for everyday use. I'd say they're over the border and are too large for everyday carry. Olights lights are some of the shortest in class so their 21700 lights would be some of the better ones to carry but still too big of a honkin' chonker for my liking. Perfect light to throw in a bag as a secondary source of illumination; maybe keep a small 16340 or similar light in pocket and then whip out a big boy when the situation calls for it. But then you might as well get one with a tail switch? I'm sure this is a perfect light for _somebody_ but not for me.

I carry a seeker 2 and a rovyvon A25 for me the limit is the meradur mini it's too large but great for taking dog or something imo but I hook mine on a belt organizer cause I prefer my pockets mostly empty except for phone headphones and the a25

Pro max owner here. I started my journey with a nitecore tip, followed by a seeker 3 pro, 2 olight Keychains and finally this light here in OD green. I was also on the fence about the size when I bought it. Having owned it for a little bit now it's the PERFECT size to power ratio. It's much less unwieldy than you'd think. With the deep carry pocket clip it slides right on into your pocket and does not bother me one bit. It is however a bit heavy for shirt pockets so that's a no go.

Damn I wish the optics was switched on the Baton 3 Pro and the Baton 3 Pro Max 😅 I want the floodiness of the Pro Max in the size of the 3 Pro. I'm not a fan of hotspots when it comes to EDC lights because I mostly use my flashlight for closeup use or for shining it down into the ground right at my feet to see where I step. But I also want that extra lumen to get just a LITTLE bit of extra reach, maby 20 meters or so. That's why I'm not 100% satisfied with my i5R, which is my current EDC.

I got imalent sr16 which is a great flood thrower and I got a Thrunite tn42 v2 which is a dedicated thrower. Now all I'm missing is a dedicated flood flashlight. I may be getting the baton pro 3 max on the 10th as a separate , Edc. Still looking for a bigger Flooder tho. A Flooder w no throw basically. Just wide even spill/no hotspot. Any revommendations?

I guess my Baton 3 pro max is defective because my baton 3 pro is brighter and throws further in every single mode, and both are CW. Sadly, it's a special one, so if I send it in , they will likely just offer to replace it with a different one.

The proximity sensor is total MISTAKE. The flashlight with this amount of light should be offer a light for self defense but with this sensor you better run than switch on this light. Flashlight is not a drone, I don't want any sensor inside! OLIGHT come on!

If someone is looking for a good EDC style light and doesn't own the Pro.....get the Pro Max. However, if one already owns the Pro.....don't think the upgrades are worth getting the Pro Max.....for "close up/mid-range use". Realistically people who EDC will only be using L and M modes anyway. ...15 and 120 lumens....we're "not supposed to" be using H and T for anything but short bursts of maybe 10-20 seconds at a time. ...or less. HOnestly most people could make do with the i5R :) If distance is truly NEEDED get one of the Warrior X or Javalot lights....Odd Olight does't yet have a pocketable "thrower"....Thrunite does TN12 Pro 32k candel in Turbo...

I know that on my Baton 3 Pro, that it only memorizes moonlight, low, and medium for safety reasons so that if it turns on in your pocket it won’t be on in high or turbo. So, if you turn the light off after using it in high or turbo, one minute later, it will default back to medium. I’m guessing that the Max is the same, but I don’t have one to be sure. Someone who has one needs to test it on high, then turn it off for a couple minutes and see what mode it comes back in on.

I much prefer the Baton 3 Pro. It has plenty of battery life on all the modes for EDC and even use as a work light if you use medium and low frequently. And…..it is much brighter than the Baton 3 Pro Max because it has higher candelas and more throw. I wish that Olight concentrated the Max’s 2500 lumens into let’s say 12,000+ candelas. This would have made it much more attractive. To me, I like my turbo mode to be useful for throwing light far away if I need too. I think that the Baton 3 Pro puts out such a large hotspot that it doesn’t really need more flood and spill like the Max. The only true advantage of the Max in my opinion is that compared to the 18650 Pro, it has 2 more hours of runtime on high, I believe something like 6+ extra hours on medium, and 80+ extra hours on low. So, if you want my opinion, don’t get the Pro Max unless you want more battery life. Instead, consider the Baton 3 Pro if you want more throw and brightness in a lighter, slimmer, shorter package that still has great runtimes. More lumens is good up until a certain point where up close, you don’t really benefit from extra lumens that much. A wider spill is nice, but I would rather have more throw considering that the Baton 3 Pro already had plenty of spill for close range use. Feel free to disagree with me. This is just the conclusion that I came to when I researched the differences between the two lights. I agree with the video and some of the other commenters who have said that the 21700 battery Max is just a bit bigger and heavier than most people would prefer for edc. Some people even think that the Baton 3 Pro is even too big. It really comes down to individual preference. If I decide I’m willing to carry a 21700 light, you can bet it’s going to have more throw with some decent spill/flood.

Exactly! Why upgrade to the Max when it is bigger and actually has less candela than the Pro? The only real reason to upgrade to the max in my mind is if you’re not already satisfied with the great runtimes of the Pro. Just my two cents 😉

Olight customer service said "the baton 3 pro and the baton 3 pro max are NOT in the same line" ...... excuse me?? Since the baton 3 had a recall due to the faulty proximity sensor, i never used it while deciding if i should return it. I contacted customer care and asked if i could swap and pay any difference. They said NO. They offer me the option to return it, receive a refund and then make a separate transaction for the new light. Ok that ONE option. What upset me was the reasons.... because they are not in the same product line!! Lmao what a joke. They lost a customer of many years over some bullshit. I didn't want anything for free!

@@714milky I have the Baton 3 Pro and had the flickering proximity sensor issue. I found that cleaning the lens with a clean microfiber cloth fixed the issue for me. I tried putting a fingerprint on the lens afterward and it started flickering again, so even a fingerprint or light smudge can affect the proximity sensor. In my case, as long as I don’t touch the lens much and or wipe it off occasionally, I’m fine. Olight will disable the proximity sensor for you if you send it in too. I’m not sure whether you still have it or not but I hope this helps if you do.
