I agree with everything but honestly its always bad for new players to start any gacha that's not a anniversary or half anniversary patch. There's always enough extra pulls during these patches to get any account started very comfortably imo and they can reroll if they want. Plus I think most players do start a new gacha during these anniversaries mainly because of the marketing that the companies do during their biggest patches. I personally started a few gachas this way too. But it does suck if you want to start playing now

Your point about the lack of easily obtainable viable DPS characters for new players right now is spot on. Even as a new player who managed to grab p0 Lucy during the anniversary, I am running into the problem of struggling in Limbo due to not having a good second DPS. And the beginner banner obsoletely needs a revamp. I left mine at 0/30 pulls because it feels like a waste of pulls compared to what I could get from other banners. I managed to pick up Lucy, p2 TF, Kakania, Getian, Isolde, and p1 Mercuria as a new player. Nothing in the beginner banner could ever compare to those pulls. (Note that I did reroll a few times during anniversary to get myself an account with Lucy/TF/Kakania and have by some miracle won every 50/50 so far, so that really helped me get a head start on this account). I absolutely agree! I started playing a few days ago, and I feel so discouraged to continue; everything seems so hard, even upgrading my current characters because my characters aren't good. "Ironic," so maybe I will put it aside for now and create a new account on an anniversary or when they actually give us something to progress with.

As someone who started in the final week of the 1.9 banner that for sure was a good time to start. Got the free Semmelweis had enough pulls for lucy, mercuria, 6(got lucky on the dual scam banner), and getian .I also attempted kakania but lost the 50/50. I still have like 9k clear drops left that im probably gonna hold for Anjo Nala which ill have alot more by then, or unless vila banner shows up before hand cause i know im gonna need a 2nd healer (currently using yenisei). Also this is the 1st gacha game where i outright ignored the beginner banner(still 0/30) after researching those characters and thoughts from yall in the community. Mind you ive played games from brave frontier, epic 7, 7DS, honkai, genshin, wuwa, etc but the banner def felt unappealing

Agreed. New player experience feels sluggish and almost requires you to reroll for a good experience. If you dont reroll and you're unlucky with your pulls, coping with the free units is like playing the game on hard mode while feeling bad about it cause you know the units you're using aren't actually "worth" investing your already scarce resources into. To add pain to that is if you enter the game when all the banners are just supports/healers, like what we have currently, so even rerolling can be a rough experience since all you can hope to get is a good support who gets better later down the line, which isn't what new players need. I know people will say "oh u can clear the game with anyone!", yea sure but that doesn't really mean its an enjoyable experience for the majority of players coming in. Most of the time i see people using suboptimal units are those who are doing challenges or dont have better options

I think the best time for new players was during Vila's patch you could have got yourself an amazing healer and buffer, and right after Windsong which is an amazing DPS Then there was anniversary and we got Lucy and then Kakania(two another amazing units)

This appears to be very common for new players (almost suspiciously common). If you are part of the subreddit, most new players asking for teambuilding advice seem to have one of the starter banner characters, 6, Isolde, and one other random six star.

About the Beginner banner, I believe they have already revamped it or they did that in 2.3 or a future patch I swear I saw it in 2.2 anniversary announcement. They added Melania and some other character in replacement for some of the characters.

But if I didn't get those two characters there's no way I would have been able to progress very far with the other units I have. The early game feels really slow in comparison to other gacha games.

And if new player lose 50:50 (Example instead of Lucy get old unit like Regulus), pretty much their newbie experience will be a hard one. I'm okay with Powercreep, but it's executed very badly in Reverse 1999, especially the pace the old unit get overshadowed. Heard that there will be rework on older characters, not sure when it will come, and hopefully they don't require extra resources or any timegated resources. Else, it won't fix newbie experience.

The powercreep is alright though? Sure the DPS and healers get more passives that make them op but this doesn't mean they automatically become bad. Jiu, Spathodea, Jessica, 37 are still good options and soon the other standard units. Don't wanna start an argument but I've seen people clear content with weaker units so it's always possible. It's also easier than in other gacha games because the characters stay strong for a while

@@enjoyer1731 I would agree, if the game allows more character in a battle. Sadly, there is only 4 character in a team. And yes, while it is clearable with pain using older units. We know, that's not how human mentality works. This game is not a startegy game, nor a game where player use any kind of skill or wits. It's a number game behind paywall called portraits and newer shinier units. Remember the beginning days, when the tutorials teach that the game is more like puzzle approach. The right character at the right place. Ideally, that's the game I hope this game should be. Not just giving the team better and newer units. So, I got Regulus at p3 (Curse my 50:50) and L60R12. Where could she go? I invested soo much in her? Use her, then call the team meme team? That's what the powercreep done dirty for us. Would I suffer with Regulus? When I could just use p4 Lucy or p1 windsong and clear things and boss raids within 3~5 turns. I still think the powercreep is done very badly in this game. Finally, sorry for the wall of text. When someone state things oblivious how bad things are, it just sad.

Most people won't choose eagle cause she's more fun, its mostly just cause they're doing a challenge or simply don't have a better option. So is the powercreep in this game reasonable? Yea since you can still clear with anyone. But is the newbie experience good? No, cause unlike veterans, they don't have the option to go to better units if they get stuck on a stage due to lack of resources and units

only problem I had when I was a new player. you need specific characters like dps, tanks, buff suppport, healer and the only way to do that is to spend your free given pulls also in order to clear story, events. also have p5s the characters they gave us in the beginning is also quite nice but then again you cannot get them easily. tbh I don't call the game f2p friendly only f2p since if you have to pull in order to clear those and every time I see a guide on how to beat this and that specific stage. they always have either 6 limited, festival 6* limited or with below 5 star characters with p3 and up. also farming and leveling up insight as a new player will punish you so hard. but the game is fun and frustrating at the same time.

There is still the Rouge like mode with the free 5 star Lorelei which is pretty good imo. A nice danage dealer in early and a nice support after playing for a while. Mercuria might be the best to start pulling for newer players.

As someone that started playing in 2.0, I do lack a DPS. Current team is Eternity, Isolde, and MedPoc. I only only got lucky with my pulls, and if not, I would have stopped playing.

Eternity is an entirely functional dps, and those three actually make a pretty good team. Eternity (I2, L50, R10) is the dps for one of my Limbo clears.

I started in the middle of the anniversary and completed all the content thanks to Lucy, it's crazy how that single DPS is helping me, my team is Lucy, Sonetto, Medicine pocket and Semelweis, which I sometimes change for Yenisei if I need more healing or Lorelei. I reached the SSS rank in all the raids except the kraken that I reached S and now I am moving up to. Now I am missing 3 stars to complete Limbo and I cannot complete the last phase because I only have 6 characters at rank 3 and only one real DPS in conditions but it is impressive how Lucy is basically activating the easy mode

My first 2 six stars were both eternity and battles rn are so tough since i’m trying to rush and catch up on all the stuff leaving. i hope i can get more comfortable in the later patches

Started on 1.9 (10/17/2024). Got Lucy on 70 pulls, Anjo Nala and Kakania on 70 pulls (Lost 50/50 in 40 pulls), Regulus on standard, Centurion and Isolde in the scam banner within 92 pulls (lost 70/30 in 20 pulls was painful). I got 2 early but lost the pity. I did Limbo 3 yesterday. My luck is not the best but not bad at all either. Starting chapter 5 of main story. I knew we had a lot of resources last patch because anni. But now that is a "normal" patch I had a drastic slowdown building my roster. So yeah if you didn't start at least last version is not the best moment

The newbie banner definitely needs an overhaul but I wouldn't worry too much about meta. I also wouldn't worry about Limbo, you can still clear most of it at i2 and the pulls you gain are so little they barely matter. If a new-ish player can clear up to and including stage 14, they only get 200 drops less than you do. And since Limbo is every 15 days or so, it'll take 135 days (4½ months) before the difference between you and the newbie adds up to a 10-pull. By the end of the year, you'll have 25 pulls or so more than them (but they'd presumably have gotten past stage 14 by then). New players should speedrun the chapters and Three Doors, then do events as far as they can for pulls. If they don't need to reroll, the game slows down naturally as it takes ages to actually farm materials for an i3 character and psychubes because newbies have NO stamina. I'm a Day 1 player, with a couple of breaks, and I've only spent 5 dollars for a single pass. I have an i3 level 30 (just where I decided to cap them for now) Isolde, Shamane, Pickles, Melania, An-an Lee, Lucy, Jiu, Kakania, 6, Windsong, Spathodea, Kaalaa, Jessica, Tooth Fairy, Medicine Pocket, Sotheby, Lilya, Charlie, Yenisei, and Bkorn. I also have A. Knight, Voyager, Semmelweis, Centurion and Regulus in unlevelled status. I have max-potted most of 5* and below, which ups their potential usefulness greatly. I'm not saying this to somehow brag, it's just that the game is pretty generous with pulls if you just stay your hand a little bit. See what comes up at CN in the next patches that's interesting and try to pick up supports that fit those characters along the way. Instead of pulling "backwards" (older meta characters, especially DPS), look ahead and try to pick something up as you go. The limited units are so strong that you become almost blind to afflatus, so it's far better to scout the next limited on CN and check their banner history during those patches: ours won't be identical but most of them will probably pop up in a different order. Then try to get what suits the limited operator and a good healer.

Fortunately, i managed to get 37, Aan an lee and jessica in just 50 pulls. Despite having them i struggled a lot to to make the content of 1.8. I pulled for vila too but los the 50/50, so I've been saving my guaranteed since i saw J was coming this patch. Pulled again in double banner for isolde sincr she is one of the main reasons why I'm playing the game and got her with just 30 pulls. My account lacks of a strong dps but until now but i still can make majority of the content with 37 being my strongest character lol. And since i have J guaranteed and have isolde for his team, I'm saving for anjo nala, argus and vila

I think the start don’t matter because you don’t need a 6 star so fast and if you are playing for free you know you will have to grind harder and that is for characters and resources and ppl have proved you can get far with basic characters. They need the original characters in it because the story is about them in the start and that would I think be their reasoning. It was slow and painful for me and I had eternity but she fell off but is kind of coming back so I think nothing is really wasted

I started playing right near the end of 1.9, about a week and a half ago. I did get the free Semmelweis, but I didn’t get Lucy. After watching some tier list videos, I prioritized Kakania because at least one tier list ranked her higher than Lucy, and I liked her kit and character design a lot. So, I figured she might be more useful in the long run. I hear pretty consistently at this point that I should’ve gone for Lucy instead due to her limited status and good DPS power. And I am definitely feeling the lack of a great DPS 😅 I was fairly unlucky with my pulls beyond getting Kakania, so my only 6-star DPS is Eternity from the starter banner. My plan at this point is to save everything for (MY QUEEN) Anjo Nala. I spent my remaining pulls this week on getting Mercuria so that Anjo Nala will have her best partner. Now that I have Mercuria (plus Isolde, who also showed up in my pulls), I’m just gonna hunker in and pick away at the content I’m able to do until then. Which I think will be fine! I’m still having fun despite my limited roster, and that’s the important thing. I know that it’ll be a bit until I can do most high-level content, but for now, there’s enough early-mid level content to keep me busy. EDIT: I did in fact get swarmed with Clicks while pulling for Mercuria. I only got one Charlie 🥲

I don't think most of these issues even come up for new players. Sure they can't rush end game content, but how many are actually trying to do that? How many actually want to steamroll through everything immediately instead of just using a character they like? I think most veteran players have completely forgotten what it's like actually being a new player and this applies to most, if not all, gacha games

Tbh it's hard to be a beginner in R19 today. I tried it recently and it has become so tedious I gave up. Very limited pulls, instantly need too many different characters to do stages, getting resources is HARD, limbo is impossible for new players. If I have to compare it to Arknight I can do most of every gameplay with kokodayo and other 3 stars with ease.

To be fair Limbo isn't meant to be cleared by a new player. It's more similar to hoyoverse games where it's something people progress slowly over 2-4 months as they build characters in their account to be able to form two flexible parties. Event shops in R99 are very generous with mats and currencies but it's true that using stamina for farming outside events is awful.

I think the issue is with how small the divide between beginner and endgame content is. Within 2 months, any new player should be able to clear all content for full rewards (the beginner six star units, with the possible exception of Regulus, are all carries that can complete full content at I3). That is a reasonable (maybe even too player friendly) balance. The problem is getting there. I recommend the Roguelike mode as a great “bridge” to help with progress and to get you a very solid support unit in the process. Up to Level 5 even lets you see what near full build versions of the characters look like. Also, grind is part of gachas, just like it’s part of something like Diablo. Building up your roster over time (and not being able to do everything in a day) is kind of the point of the genre.

@@meursault.1984 New players on launch weren't clearing limbo right away either because they had much less game modes to get resources from to just level their units (events started from 1.1). Just because the difficulty was lower it doesn't mean clearing it was necessarily easier to clear. I'd even argue a new player starting at 1.9 with Lucy/Kakania would take considerably less time clearing limbo than a new player on launch. Regardless, Jakazin's point was that the newbie banner should have better than 1.0 characters because current limbo is already stronger, not that the higher difficulty is prohibitive for new players. 1.1-1.6 6* characters are just quite more stronger/useful than most of 1.0 6* cast.

@@NewNecro how can you clear limbo with lucy and Kakania only? you now need 8 units at the least i2 level 50 R10 characters to clear limbo 5 and 6. I made a fresh account during 1.9. The resources are still not enough because Resonance materials specifically are time-gated. Now if you use all your resources/pulls to rush limbo, then you'll be bricking your account because you don't have pulls left for the next meta(anjo/willow)

They could make an arcanist training program or something for new players/returning players. It would help them understand the game while also being relevant/important to the story (I always found the fact that you don't know anything about the foundation until ch3/4 kind of weird). Imo, it'd be a better tutorial storywise than what we have at the start, which is just kind of random. It would give you like one 6 star selector that lets you choose one of 3 newer DPS like you mentioned, while giving you the choice of two 5 stars: one that sustains and one that debuffs/buffs. I feel like telling players to focus on these 3 characters at the start will really help them with their account health in the long term too.

I started playing in the middle of version 1.9. So, yes, I had free Lucy and Semmelweis, but I also have 1 portrait of Semmelweis and 2 portraits of Regulus. I was pretty unlucky with my pulls, and I even pulled my Kakania on the 140th pull, which was painful. However, I still have two full 6-star teams for Limbo (although I didn't have enough resources to level them up), because the amount of free clear drops that the game gives you allows you to pull enough characters. Also, me and my 70 pulls waiting for J.

Just because a unit isn't meta, doesn't necessarily mean they're weak af. Just that there are better and more efficient options. (Vila also may or may not have been replaced by Lopera). With how poison teams are doing in CN. Excluding game modes that need multiple teams, they might've just kick out every limited and true limited DPS from the meta. Anjo and WS will only holding on due to their unique play styles.

I think it's best to just start with Anjo nala patch For new players 😂. Missing Lucy is such a huge loss as she is a very universal DPS.

They're not terrible but not crazy either. You may consider rerolling to get Mercuria earlier and save the rest for Anjo Nala or just keep pulling Mercuria. Spathodea isn't bad at all but because the game already has many good DPS characters already, you may want to get a strong early healer among Vila/Tooth Fairy/Kakania. If you'll play long enough for Anjo release you're likely to get more new 6* alongside her.

@@Константин-д6щ4с Spatho mainly wants Isolde because she does everything Spatho wants and vice versa. The rest doesn't matter too much (just throw in the best you've got) outside the standard DPS/support/healer team building. Pair up any reality buffer/debuffer (there's a handful of them) and you should be able to clear stages with ease as you level up your team over time.

As a returning player since 1.8 2nd half, the problem is getting resonance material since it is limited for per month and you cant grind it. I cant imagine for a new player how many they need for resonance material to upgrade their character if they need to defeat limbo and mane bulletins to get more resonance material.

I think they should give more gifts to new players or an opportunity to get their fav character like a free 5 or 6* selector so that new players would like to stay longer in this game Free characters and breezy mode is not enough and new players need a strong team to clear the story especially the bosses or catch up with new contents like event story It is unfortunate that farming gacha money is now tedious for new players but I do wish them good luck and hope they enjoy the game now that it will test their patience 😅

I joined the Game on the last day of the patch but by some godly grace got Lucy P1. I then researched some and also watched your vids so i pulled Mercuria. 6 was in a bundle with lucy for me and Yenisei .... I bought Yenisei ngl and that's kinda where my problem is. besides La source and Yenisei I don't have any viable Healer/sustainer. i missed Kakania, didn't get Vila nor Toothfairy. So if anyone has any Advise for me what I should do or look out for in regards to that pls help T-T it is driving me fucking nuts

Do u have Dikke or Balloon Party? Medpoc is a pretty good healer and will be a good standin healer until u get TF or Vila. Ms. NewBabel will be getting a pretty good revamp if u happen to get her and don't have Kakania. If you can afford p1 or p5 Mercuria then try to get her.

Yenisei is more than enough, just wait for Villa re-run...Farm free P4 Lorelei from Series of Dusk, she's a budget Mercuria and also has enemy damage reduction.

If you can't guarantee her then I just suggest skipping and save those pulls for another unit. She's more of a luxury pull if you don't already have units with good synergy with her.

Lopera imo. She's slightly more AP friendly and has really good single target healing which helps to offset the 50% hp loss contractees get from Anjo's ult

I started a new account in September and there was 6 banner at that time. I got 2 copies of 6 and Druvis + baby blue. My older account is super unlucky as most of my main chara required 60 pulls+ except for lucy. That means I barely get 1 copy of each chara per season

3 characters within 1 patch. but in less than 8 days I grinded as many drops as possible. I tried many accounts though and one gave me 2 x sothebies right away and others were unlucky. I got 6-druvis-6 in bout 140+ pulls

So i started near the end of 1st anniversary. Managed to pull Lucy and get the Semmelweis. Then built Necrologist and Yenisei for 5stars, heard they were helpful (they are) Now im not sure if i should pull on any of these banners. Or wait until a future banner comes. Just been doing events/story hoarding Drops😅 Any recommendations?

If you have lots of pulls, (which you probably should) pull Mercuria. Mercuria and (I3) Lucy work very, very well together. It'll be an insane team to carry you through any single team content.

This game has become more unforgiving for its players and has released less and less content. I’m not sure what’s going on with these guys. Many banners are scams and Getian has already fallen off. Some will say not to worry because every character is viable but it’s simply not true. The game is shifting its mechanics to require newer and stronger characters and players are getting less and less rewarded. Wtf Reverse?

I'm saddened. I started on the very end of the Joe's banner, I have some idea of characters here and there and I thought my best bet was going all in for Tuesday. Got her at P1 and am glad that one unit I wanted (Sotheby) is getting more done for her. But I pretty much spent all I got and used candies that were given to me like crazy to catch up to the Highway event. I only managed to clear UTTU by using cheesy tactics, using assist characters and reloading to get a better hand. I was quite lost and had to learn my way through experience.
