Thanks for sharing...interesting how the opening calldown used the fully-orchestrated version of "Walking" (not heard on the US series since late 1979), and didn't segue into the main theme until after Bob was introduced.

This episode is actually from July 1990, based on the Sky One promos for the live cricket game & The Secret Video Show.

Nice that they included the same music package from the US version.
@Musicradio77Network5 жыл бұрын
Yep! They recycled the theme song and the “Come On Down”, “Losing Horns”, etc. from the US version.
@barrybear20123 жыл бұрын
Almost 1990, and this version of TPIR was using the US TPIR's original 1976-79 version of the "Walking" come-on-down cue.

Ironically, a lot of the early music used on the Price is Right was actually recorded in London!
@KrakenMan58534 жыл бұрын
The early music was recorded at Abbey Road Studios. Where the Beatles' Abbey Road album was recorded.
@Classictv90s9 жыл бұрын
The New Price is Right was recorded on the same set as the Leslie Crowther ITV era of the show.
@antster19837 жыл бұрын
The Leslie Crowther version moved partway through its run from Birmingham to Nottingham. Talbot Telegame moved the show back to Brum for the Sky incarnation.

Now this is a British adaption of a US gameshow done completely right! Jeopardy and wheel of fortune are prime examples of how the UK likes to butcher US gameshows, changing music, rules etc. This PiR is just perfect.
@ChuckD797 ай бұрын
And like its American counterpart, this version was also hosted by a guy named Bob! 😅

Sometimes the U.S. butchered several U.K. game shows, like The Million Pound Drop (Million Dollar Money Drop in the U.S.), Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (syndicated 2010-2019), The Chase (GSN and ABC),...The Weakest Link (U.S. NBC revival) could count (the final double-money banked round being removed, the chatting before revealing the votes, the target being increased every round, and the votes not being handwritten,...) but at least the remixed 2021 sountrack was still identical and faithful to the classic one.

I hope Bob Barker allowed the UK Price is Right to use the "come on down" music, the 1972-2007 theme, and some of the prize cues to use on their show.

I notice that by this point the Brits had adopted a theme music very much like our American TPIR
@ajk5 жыл бұрын
This WAS the American Price theme lol, the earlier one anyway, at least I think the main theme was the lower pitched version that was replaced in 83 or so. And the COD theme definitely was older.
@Musicradio77Network5 жыл бұрын
This was compared to “The Muppet Show” when the show was taped in the UK back in the 1970’s, it uses the American actors as well as voice actors that are American. “The Muppet Show” was shown in both the UK and US in the late 70’s and early 80’s when it was first on ITV through ATV, and in US syndication through ITC.

This version of UK "Price" always seemed...weird to me, mainly because it used the American version's music and it looked more American than the previous Crowther version. If there is something positive I can say about this version of the show, it's that it influenced future European versions of the show, including "Bruce's Price is Right".

This makes me realize how much of the U.S. TPiR is really focused on how excited the contestants get. This is actually hard to watch-they seem so… disinterested. That second contestant looked like she stuck her tongue out! Also, MAN, VCRs were expensive back in the day.

This is amateur compared to the American version. The prizes are much cheaper too. The Lucky Seven prize in the States is always a car.
@bluebear19859 жыл бұрын
Bob Sewvello The prizes may have been cheaper, but considering the tight caps on prizes for British game shows, they really had no choice but to do this.
@catholicpriest19 жыл бұрын
Who imposed the cap?

Bob Sewvello The Independent Broadcasting Authority. They're an organization that regulates commercial television in the UK.
@jamesbonnen8 жыл бұрын
+bluebear1985 Then how did they did they get the millionaire on in England
@bluebear19858 жыл бұрын
James Bonnen The caps had been removed by that point, I believe at some point in the 90s. One of the first shows to take advantage of it was "Bruce's Price is Right". On that show, you could possibly win a car in the earlier part of the show, and possibly win another one in the showcase round, something that would have been impossible to do a decade earlier.
