Thank you! When I heard it for the first time, I was like, yeah, okay, not great, but it grew on me and now I love it to death. I lost interest at Hebrews. I only liked one song from that whole album.

I absolutely love the album. Totally agree. Would NOT recommend to anyone not familiar with their work

I was a big Say Anything fan back in the day. Is a real boy, was a real boy, in defense of the genre and even junior varsity/dormroom demos/menora majora were some of my favorite emo/pop-punk albums but haven’t really payed much attention to them since the self-titled album (which I do still enjoy). Thanks for the review of the new album, might have to check it out just cause it sounds weird and interesting if nothing else.

When you blur out words, why do you blur the whole word? Blurring one letter will do. And isn't that first song talking about Weezer? I mean Rivers (Cuomo)... The Good Life (off of Pinkerton).

Long time SA fan (there's literally not a single album I havent liked besides Anarchy, and I've even come to really enjoy it over the years). This album just makes me sad/disappointed. Max is a 40 year old father and yet he's written some of the most disgusting and immature lyrics of his whole career, but hides behind the "its satire" cover. It's a shame because musically I think its great, albiet some songs have a weird mix where its just a wall of sound. Strip the lyrics and there are a lot of solid and fresh songs. But with how unbound the lyrics are, the fact that there was very little marketing, knowing what's been going on personally and financially with him and his family, and constantly referencing IARB, this album just feels like some act of desperation for relevancy and money. I wanted to like this, and maybe I would have if I was still the angsty teen that first listened to IARB, but I'm an adult now and its really hard to look past all the red flags.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the mix. It sounds way off. Maybe it's like that on purpose, because of the whole "parody" thing, but some of the tracks were so difficult to hear what was going on. I kept messing with my EQ settings to try and make it easier to hear, but to no avail

Be Children hooked me - it's phenomenal. I was immediately transported back to my teenage years, ready to grab my knife and go on an emotional adventure. Then it proceeds to disappoint in every way. Huge bummer...

I'm a huge Say Anything fan, I really enjoy all of their albums (although I Don't Think It Is took some time for me to warm up to). When Pyche! got releases as a single, I was really hyped up for the album. I loved all the references to previous songs (e.g. someone has to euthanize that yellow cat/that piece of trash) and thought it sounded great until the last bit. It definitely gets unhinged at the end but I was willing to overlook it. I really think all the good songs from this album came out as singles. Psyche!, Are You In There, and CARRIE & LOWELL & CODY (PENDENT), are all good songs imo. I, Vibrator is alright and sounded great live as well, I just really do not care for the lyrics at all. The same goes for the majority of the rest of the album. I don't think this one will grow on me either. There's something about the mixing that just doesn't help the songs either, at least from what I've heard from my lossless bandcamp version. I feel like the album is way too personal, to the point where the majority of people will not be able to apply the songs to their own experiences. Glad to see the band back, but unfortunately it is the worst album in the discography, IMO

Psyche, be children, and are you in there are great songs I’d say. Everything else is hard to jam out to in the car

I enjoyed the is committed over all. I’m just having a hard time understanding the overwhelming hate that album getting. Not sure if a large majority of their fan base was expecting them to write another self titled record or is a real boy or what.

I know you CAN make the jump from silly mid-2000s emo to "grown up music" because plenty of bands have done it and released their best work, but it just seems like sucha foreign concept to me that a 40 year old man would release a Say Anything record. And I get it, that's easily the best way to make money if you spent your 20s playing Bamboozle instead of learning a trade, but pop punk is a pretty painful genre for a grown ass man.

y'all take Say Anything way too seriously. I don't think we're supposed to like the new album; isn't that the whole point? Hasn't that always been the whole point since ....Is a Real Boy? Say Anything has always been disgusting and anti-social. It's theatre. Just like Alice Cooper.

I believe we’re supposed to enjoy the music, but like you said, we’re not supposed to take it so seriously. So much satire, irony, and tongue-in-cheek.

This is coping to unnecessary levels. Is a Real Boy was a masterful album that told a unique story. The lyrics had depth. This new album isn’t good, you’re making up strange excuses about, “we’re not supposed to like it.” Just stop it.
