Being a Catholic, I always loved the line, "Do you think that we can work out a sign? So i'll know it's you and that it's over so I won't even try?" I always thought of this song about someone begging with a God he struggles with in his life and his beliefs, and that part is just so...broken, brutal, hopeless, unapologetic and honest. One of Jesse Lacey's most beautiful lyric in his career, IMHO.
@cvsp3rlxc921
@cvsp3rlxc921 4 жыл бұрын
I’d have to respectfully disagree. Just because one asks for a sign from the father doesn’t mean they’re necessarily broken. In fact the scripture says to “test the spirits” not everything is how it appears. Sometimes people just need a sign or just peace that only the father can give. Especially this day and age. But let’s not forget about Thomas. Thomas said himself he needed to see where the nails were in Yeshua’a hands. Just because something looks good and moral doesn’t mean it is. You have look at the underlying motivations. Even a good act can be turned into bad if the motivations for doing those things are bad. I personally don’t see how anyone claiming to be a catholic or Christian can be saved to begin with. Whether you’re catholic or Protestant you follow traditions and ecclesiastical laws created by men over the Father’s words and commandments. It’s not hard to prove either. For instance neither catholic or Protestant observe he sabbath. They follow the SUN day which was created by Constantine who said it was a “venerated day of rest to the sun” for the purpose of converting pagans and convincing them that their sun deity and Yeshua (so called Jesus) were one in the same. The pagans had a day of rest to their sun deity on the first day of the week. So Constantine created the SUN day and moved it from the 7th day of the week to the first. The Catholics have said for centuries that ANYONE who follows the SUN day instead of the sabbath is saying that the Catholic Church has the authority and power of God on earth. Because who else could change the day of the sabbath other than God himself? Neither Protestant or catholic know or follow the entire scriptures. The books of he apocrypha were removed at the first council of nicea. They reason was because they said either the books weren’t inspired, didn’t tell the story they wanted to convey with the Bible or that the were heretical altogether. The problem is that logic is that Yeshua (so called Jesus) quoted these books and used them for teaching. They were dumb enough to leave in the current configuration of the Bible where he did this. Thus giving them validation. For instance he quoted the book of Enoch alone four separate times. So to not follow those books is to say Yeshua (so called Jesus) was not the sun of God, was not perfect and taught a flawed doctrine. Every holiday celebrated by Catholics and Protestants come directly from pagans and are still celebrated in the same pagan fashion. Which is either never mentioned in the scriptures or is and specifically says NOT to follow them. For instance Christmas. People say “you’re crazy the word doesn’t speak on Christmas” which is both wrong and right. It’s right because it was called Christmas after the time the scriptures were written. It’s wrong because the scriptures specifically speak on it and you don’t meed much intelligence to see what it’s speaking about. Jeremiah 10:1-5 speaks about a pagan holiday and ritual. One where they cut down a tree, bring it inside, stand it up vertically, “nailing it to the floor” the see that it stays vertical (which now says there’s tree stands) and then it says they decorated those trees with ornaments of gold and silver. And the scripture says DO NOT BE LIKE THE PAGANS AND DO THIS. And when you do research you find the holiday the pagans did this for was in the winter solstice around the time which people call Christmas. And clearly it’s a Christmas tree being spoken about. Protestants and Catholics both say that once Yeshua (so called Jesus) died on the cross the old covenant and laws no longer mattered. The problem with that idea is that Yeshua said himself that HE DID NOT COME TO AWAY WITH THE OLD LAWS AND COVENANT. But by him coming it was giving validation to those things again HE said this himself in scripture. Yet Protestants and Catholics after saying the old laws and covenant don’t matter go and teach the Ten Commandments still Which guess what, those are a part of the old laws and covenant. It is a FACT Protestants and Catholics cherry big when and what to follow based on convenience. Then other times they’re happy to follow men’s traditions and ecclesiastical laws over God. You all pray to Jesus which wasn’t the name of the one who came and died for our sins. There’s a 0% chance that was his name considering he was a Hebrew, he spoke Hebrew and he had a Hebrew name. There is no J in existence in the Hebrew alphabet. He said numerous times “there is power in MY NAME” not “there is power in the translation of the meaning of my name” he even speaks in Matthew how on the judgement day man will come before him saying “lord lord did we not cast out demons, heal the sick and do other miracles in your name?” And he will respond by saying “depart from me for I never knew you” it’s worship him when you don’t even know his name or words. People will usually say “the name doesn’t matter! He knows I’m referring to him!” And I say “if the name doesn’t matter why do you call him Allah or Buddha or Vishnu?” And people will get mad and say “because that’s not his name!” And I say “neither is Jesus” the original transcripts which are in Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic call him by his real name which is Yeshua.

@@charlesmcwilliam5785 I feel ya. I honestly could never try and say that I "know" what the song means. I feel like that's the point of music, is to get your own meaning out of it, that's just my personal take on it. That why I wrote "I always thought..." because no one really knows, I guess. Just my two cents. I know Jesse always spoke about his conflict with religion and it's a constant theme in their music, so between that and my interpretation of it at face value, that's what I got out of it.

Jesse wrote this whole album while struggling with his belief in God (and other things). Hence the title of the album being "The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me" (though there are other meanings). I think he's more or less on the fence about if there is, or isn't a God. It seems to me like he wants there to be a God, but at the same time the lack of proof is comforting to him, because he doesn't want to be held accountable for his actions by God. More recently he talked about being agnostic, but that he is keeping an open mind. Very talented song writer. My favorite band for sure.

Bob Duncan not him but to me, not at all. Some of his lyrics of are a tad creepy now but the genius of the majority of them doesn't change how much I love them. The Devil And God as well as Deja and Daisy got me through the second half of high school which was a really tough time in my life and to just ignore the band after the allegations is just too hard. I definitely think it's important to separate the art from the artist even when the lyrics can seem uncomfortable in hindsight.

Everyone believes in something, even if they don’t. We are incapable of such an idea because believing in nothing is still believing. Jesse struggles with what that belief wants of him against his own worldly wants, as we all do. All I can say is Judge and you will be judged, love is love, no killing, be kind and don’t trepass. Also, listen to brand new.

The pastor came across like he was better than everyone else. His little comments completely discounted the real questions and the pain in the song. It's the fear a lot of us have of church and pastors is that our questioning will get met with Bible verse and quotes when we really want to have a genuine conversation without feeling judged. His attitude just came off wrong and kinda ruined what is an amazing song.

The reference to Thomas is St Thomas at heavens gate asking to see the hands of the person in the song, for if someone commits suicide they have blood on their hands and will be denied entry to heaven. The amount of things you missed in this song is mind blowing. "This ship went down in sight of land" references someone killing themselves when there was so much help like family or friends around if only they reached out.

I know this is an old video but can I just say, I suffer from severe anxiety and disassociation which is super overwhelming and makes day to day life sometimes unbearable. Once I heard you say "to be absent from the body is to be present with the lord" it genuinely resonated with me so deeply that I was reduced to tears. In all transparency, I was an Atheist prior to watching this video and I'm not saying that single particular comment made me a believer, but I have since started attending church on an irregular basis and I'm a member of a fellowship. I have found solace and comfort within. So, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

I think the last part is a big realization for Jesse as well though; "We all got wood and nails, and we turn out hate in factories". Pair that lyric with "But I'm scared, I'll get scared, and I swear I'll try to nail you back up", along with "we sleep inside of this machine"; It really seems Jesse is referencing Jesus' crucifixion; Basically, if Jesus is real, and if God does exist, and the Second coming of Jesus happens... would we as a society accept him? Or would we nail him back up (figuratively.. or maybe literally)? This is something I've struggled with for a while. I'm agnostic myself; however, I do fear if Jesus did exist (in the sense that he had a connection with God), humanity would be unable to accept him, because after all "we sleep inside of this machine" that drives us, and we all "turn out hate in factories". I think Jesse's last part is a very cynical view and feel that even if God does exist, is humanity even worthy of his grace? (because we'd most likely crucify him again). Food for thought.

The guy in the hat was feeling it but the pastor was all hyped over a sad song, which to me says you can smile and talk genuinely but you don't have the empathy he has. If you did you might have spent more time thinking while you were listening rather than comparing Brand New to the Beatles and wanting to tattoo them on your back after the only song you've heard is the one named after your savior. I mean given the fact they don’t even follow properly yet act like they’re saved is why I don’t go. They don’t observe or follow the sabbath. They follow the sun day which was created by Constantine as a “venerated day of rest to the sun” and moved from the 7th day of the week to the first. In an attempt to covert pagans and convince them their sun deity is the same as so called Jesus. Then there’s the issue of them praying to Jesus which is not the one who came and died on the cross. And there’s a 0% chance it was Jesus considering he was a Hebrew, he spoke Hebrew and had a Hebrew name. J doesn’t even exist in the Hebrew alphabet. His name was Yeshua. They claim on Yeshua died on the cross he old covenant and laws didn’t have any weight or relevance. They said a new convent was established even though Yeshua said himself he did nkt come to change or do away with the olds laws and covenant yet by him coming it gave validation to them. Then in the next breath Christians teach the ten commands which is part of the old laws and covenant. They don’t follow the entire scriptures primarily the books of the apocrypha which were removed at the first council of nicea. The reason being they said the books weren’t inspired, didn’t tell the story they wanted to convey with the Bible or that the books were heretical altogether. The issue with this is they were dumb enough to leave places in the current configuration where Yeshua used them to teach and quoted them. For instance he quoted the book of Enoch four separate times, thusvalidating them. By not following those they are saying Yeshua was not imperfect and that his doctrine was flawed. The follow Ecclesiastical laws and traditions over the word of the father. Every holiday Is of pagan origin and either isn’t mentioned in scripture and if it is it specifically says NOT to follow them. For instance Christmas. People say “you’re wrong and crazy Christmas isn’t mentioned in the scripture” which is true and false. It’s true in the sense the name Christmas came after the scriptures were written. It’s false because it’s mentioned in practice and it’s easy to see and understand d and research Jeremiah 10:1-5 speaks about a pagan ritual for a pagan holiday where they cut a tree down, brought it inside, stood it up vertical “nailing it to the floor” making sure it stayed vertical (which now days there’s tree stands), then scriptures said they decorated those trees with ornaments of gold and silver. Sound like a ritual they still practice? When you research further you find this holiday in which they didn’t this happened during the winter solstice around the time people now call Christmas. And in Jeremiah the scriptures specifically say NOT to be like the pagans and NOT to do this. Every mention of the church in scripture refers to the body of believers NEVER a building. It also never says to be a Christian anywhere in the word. As far as religion goes it says DO NOT be religious like the Pharisees. Which Christianity is 100% religion anyway you look at it and every aspect . The scripture says “where two or three gather in my name. There I am” as well as “do not forsake the fellowship of believers” never be a Christian. The reason people are so stuck in following traditions over the scripture is because the Catholics outlawed it for anyone not a member of the clergy to read the “bible”.which even if one wanted to break the law and read it in those days the only copies the people could have gotten their hands on would have been in Latin. Which Latin was not the language of the people or even of any masses. All ceremonies, rituals and masses were held in Latin. So not only could people.not read things for themselves they also couldn’t understand anything being said at service and couldn’t compare the priest to the scripture itself. So people blindly followed these priests which instilled in them traditions all of pagan origin. By the time the people had the ability to read the scriptures themselves they didn’t care to. They were already set and happy to follow these traditions which Catholics and Protestants still follow. The fact is Christianity is a mix of pagan sun worship and Judaism. It’s not a conspiracy. You can look and see who changes things, when and for what reason. It’s all well documented. And again I’m a believer but I’m not a Christian and I only follow scripture. I don’t follow any traditions or ecclesiastical laws created by men. If I can’t find it in scripture I will not do it and then make excuses why it’s acceptable like Christians like to do for everything it seems.

I believe god has sense of humor and you dont need to be too serious about a song for one... Yes, there a people who feel similarly with the songs lyrics and you may think it needs to be taken seriously as a suicide matter for it is a sensative matter for many and if not about suicide and it is simple struggle in life it's something natural that could occur to some christians. However this a reaction video it wasn't a response video not or an outreach just a pastors reaction to the song in which he liked the song. The lyrics are great and have good question of people struggling with their faith. Jokes are okay even from pastors. Afterall it was a reaction video in which presents personality which is genuine to their character. Though christians are to supposed teach as they are going and he brought up a few things living a christian life too seriously could cause one to realise just how hevel and heavy everything really is. Yes God should be priority as a christian but there times where such seriousness should be expected and where its not really necessary. I'll stope before i ramble my nonsense for to long. It's alright if you still disagree with me. ✌ but if you wanna converse that'd be fun too, laters.

As with all of us who hear this song for the first time, you began a bit uncertain, not knowing (as I did not) whether this was irreverent and just pop exploitation of a few Christian references. But, exactly as you said, it's a story of real struggle, a prayer song, especially resonant for those of us who are flawed believers. Very vulnerable in this one, we are and must be. Very narrow is the gate; I hope you're right about the disciples. Well done, Pastor -- God bless, thank you!

Hi guys, I just found your channel today and I've subscribed. A perfect song for you to do, is definitely Cemetery Gates by Pantera. Please don't watch the video. Use one with the lyrics. The video cuts off the beautiful guitar, in the beginning. Dimebag Darrell Abbott, was one of the greatest guitarists on the planet. He was shot, on stage, while performing, by a psychopath. I would love to hear what a pastor has to say on this song. I pray that you do it. God bless you both!

Hey guys, Avenged sevenfold- shepherd of fire would be interesting to see . And either two part songs by avenged sevenfold like won’t see you again part one and part two , or plantes(parts one) and acid rain(follows right after planted/part two) would be cool to see even if it’s a longer episode

I like that he listens but he seems like he is searching for the light in a song that is dark and is supposed to be dark. I could see him swallow and just try and not let this hit him like yes this is real af for every Christian who has any common sense but its also the BIG sad and only gets worse.

As an ex- Jehovah's Witness I am confident that my openness to other beliefs far outweighs the cloaked and strict regimes of any organized religions. It requires far more courage to believe there is absolutely no supreme help, than to lean on the belief that whatever happens is divine will. If this guy upstairs already has a plan and has their mind made up, then why bother praying at all? That's a very egotistical human principle. The strong recognize. The weak pray.

So glad this Pastor is open to this song. There is hope still lol. Not all Christians are completely lost and deceived, all while being full of pride. Its called the LIVING WORD for a reason. If your understanding of it hasn't evolved violently over and over again. Over time. Until your spirit is completely destroyed, and you experience a spiritual death. Then a short while later by GRACE alone, your spirit is resurrected, and reborn, and you KNOW without any doubt its ETERNAL. That you are a part of it. You always are, always have been, always will be. Then you might start back at the beginning. 1st sentence of the WORD. WHERE THE WORD introduces itself as GOD. Pretty amazing! Much love

This is just the tip of the iceberg and I have no issues taking it further. I don’t care what your English translation says either. Most of the English translations are wrong and why there are so many denominations with different interpretations. I go by the original transcripts in Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic. Like “speaking in tongues” the Pentecostals do believe the way they do because it’s interpreted poorly. They claim it’s the word says it’s the language of the heavenly hosts which is 100% false. The word used for speaking in tongues or that got translated poorly to say that is a Greek word “glossa” which glossa means a language from another country but 100% refers to earthy language. It would be like if you couldn’t speak Japanese but the Holy Spirit came upon you and had to speak perfect Japanese to Japanese people. It also gives guidelines. One at a time, not overlapping and doing laps around the church, it won’t be gibberish, it will always be at the appropriate time which wouldn’t be in the middle of a message with half a dozen people yelling out at the same time diverting attention away from the message AND there will always be someone present to translate and interpret. That’s the scriptures take on it. Not just my personal opinion everything I just said came directly from scripture and used the original transcripts. The English version even if it’s the King James Version is flawed and poorly translated. Also keep in mind who the King James Version was translated specifically for and why.
