Perhaps one day you might share with me how you do your amazing presentations. I would love to use something that cool to share info -not necessarily on youtube but in workshops, I hope to deliver one day . On the 'visualizing', you are supposed to do the 'dream' version AND the 'nightmare' version if you don't work towards that dream. Why run if you don't have nothing to run away from, or to run after?

I don't get some ideas in the book, "The traveler stranded in the desert fantasizing about water will more likely quench his thirst because he’ll be alert to relevant cues that suggest water might be around" It reads at one given point, but, "Indulging in fantasies about the future doesn’t help. Though enjoyable in the short term, fantasies only deplete our efforts and lead us to stumble over and over again", It doesn't make sense at all!
@Digizard
@Digizard Жыл бұрын
My understanding is that you have to have the right amount of fantasizing. Fantasizing should be used as a tool to help you figure out what you want or need, but it shouldn't be something you dwell on. It is the first step and then you move on, but many people don't like to move on from it and just hang on and keep coming back to it.

WOOP - I'm confused by the two Os, outcome and obstacle. Doesn't the outcome contradict what is said in the first half about mental contrast? Shouldn't it just be WOP with the lone O being Obstacle? (Yes, I suppose WOP is not the greatest acronym.) Doesn't the first half say that people who focus on the outcome get good feels and become less motivated?
@Digizard
@Digizard Жыл бұрын
My understanding is that the Wish is for deciding what it is you want while the Outcome is when you do a visualization of it. With the visualization, you think about the best possible outcome and identify how you would feel. To me, the Wish and Outcome are separate enough steps. Then, you do the mental contrasting with the second O and make a plan with P. In that, there is a difference between only focusing on the desired outcome and instead using it briefly as a tool to identify what it is you actually want. With WOOP, you follow up the brief fantasizing with mental contrasting and making a plan. Also with WOOP, it seems you don't come back and keep visualizing the outcome over and over like some positive thinking strategies recommend. You get your if/then plan and that's that. You don't need to fantasize about that thing anymore, I imagine unless you need to check if that's something you still want. The idea is that you use WOOP once and you more or less don't use it again for that particular wish.

@Andreluiz-dp2ho

i think the message is that just visualizing is not enough, you need more. If it helps, it's because you deffinatelly do more.
@mamunurrashid5652
@mamunurrashid5652 5 жыл бұрын
@@Andreluiz-dp2ho Of course,visualization is not enough. It never was. But the author claims that if you visualize,your brain thinks,you have accomplished the goal and the brain doesn't put much effort to achieve the goal anymore. My experience with visualization doesn't imply that......For example,I kept doing positive visualization of 'getting a job' for several weeks. Then,stopped it. I landed on a job...... I visualized of proposing a woman,and later I did do that..........This seemed 'impossible' to me. I 'thought'(!),I would never be able to do it. But I did do it!! I also gave up smoking cigarettes by the help of hypnosis and visualization!!! All of these three were seemingly impossible or too difficult for me to attain,but I did attain them anyway! I didn't have to use the 'contrast visualization' idea that the author of the book suggested. But I do agree on one point with the author: after you do a visualization,you do feel that you have already achieved that goal.....But that doesn't mean,our brain is 'fool' enough to not to try to achieve what it has signaled through visualization! I consider visualization to be just like a "To Do" list. It is just a better "To Do" list with which brain gets organized to do things in a more focused way. That is all.........
@Andreluiz-dp2ho
@Andreluiz-dp2ho 5 жыл бұрын
Mamunur, after learning more about personal development, i tottaly agree with you, and i do not think that positive thinking sloe you down. Not at all. If you don' t see it as a good thing and do not believe it's possible, you won't reach it. When you visualize, you train your subconscius brain that it's true, once it learn it, it will seek the goal all the time, what is, in the most cases, more than enough.

@@karlovacgrad I think the "shooting through the hoop" visualization is a different thing than what's being talked about in the book this video is about. That's a sort of mental practicing of actions you can do. But the book is about goal-setting. So it's a difference of action practice visualization and future life accomplishment visualization, I'd say.
