The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

@@bestintuba In the interest of full disclosure, I admit that I adore Melanie Safka. No one can really do justice to her songs. I think she's beyond brilliant. When she does covers, like Linda Ronstadt's "Long, Long Time" she somehow adds an element that is absolutely heart-wrenching, even though Linda's version is so much more polished.

The New Seekers had a fascinating history starting with their initial success coming from this 1970 single in the US. Yet it didn't crack the UK top 40. But the following year they made it big in the UK with "Never Ending Song Of Love", while the US played the version by Delaney & Bonnie instead. Their releases would continue to be big in some countries & not others. But the two singles where the New Seekers & the world came together are: "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing" in 1971 and "Pinball Wizard/See Me Feel Me" in 1973. The latter is my favorite and is an amazing performance.

The New Seekers had an International hit with “I’d Like To Teach The World “ , which was a jingle for COKE, - and due to massive amounts of phone calls to radio stations, they finished it out, turned it into a fantastic full length song. - I believe , the only time that has ever happened. 📻🙂

This video looks different from usual Ed Sullivan videos because it was a special show with acts from around the world paying tribute to the 25th anniversary of the United Nations.
