China successfully lifted hundreds of millions out of poverty and streamlined its integration into the international community by investing heavily in roads, railways, airports, and energy. Now China is looking into its own history to share its economic model with the rest of the world. Across three episodes, ‘The New Silk Road’ follows China’s Belt and Road Initiative from its start in the markets of Yiwu and the ports of the South China Sea to Africa and Europe.
This is part one of a three-part series.

China knows how to build an empire by not being an empire. Just be a friend to everyone and develop an economy for the under develop economies. China is leading the world in building a community with a shared future for humanity.

Other countries shouldn't be jealous of China's economic success . Their people work very very hard, even outside of normal work hours and weekends , while others go to the beach to sunbathe and surf. Everyone has their own kind of happiness in their choice of interests hobbies and priorities.

True, the Westerners are too comfortable and lethargic to compete. The Chinese not only work hard, but also have the creative and innovative skills to advance much further. Remember, most of the early inventions like gun powder, rockets, paper, compass, printing machine, sundial, water pump, gyroscope etc etc etc were invented by the Chinese. Given now the similar opportunities, they are just re-establishing back their leadership and prowness in all these creative ideas and technologies. As in the past, the Western world in the future will need to rely more on China than China need to rely on ttem!

Building infrastructure is key to economic prosperity. China has used its wealth to do just that whether it is roads or high speed railway lines. What US done is use its wealth to destroy infrastructure of smaller nations with vicious bombing instead of taking care of its crumbling infrastructure. US doesn't have a single high speed project going on. China has completed 17,000 KM of high speed railway.

I agree with everything you stated except for the last two sentences. As far as railways - America isn't building new high-speed railways because America is operating just fine without tearing out old railways (that still work) to spend billions of dollars just so our trains go a little faster - it doesn't make economical sense. America has been using railways for 150 years, there are trains going through even the tiny towns like mine with a population of 1200. China NEEDS to develop a rail system - America does not, we already have an extensive rail system through every town that China envies. I am American but I disagree with political decisions here as much as you do. I think war should rarely be used, unless you're invaded - I don't think any war was necessary except The Revolutionary War. You act like China invented "building infrastructure leads to economic growth in many areas" - America didn't invent that idea either, we just perfected it as I'm sure China will also add to going forward. America built the Transcontinental Railroad in 1863 that led to the development of our western states. California's population skyrocketed from thousands to millions after the railroad was put in, along with about 15 other states. We know all about infrastructure investment and economic growth but America cannot throw billions into projects just on one mans decision as China does. Big projects are usually mired in opposition and fought over for years where China doesn't have to deal with "red tape" (that's ironic). China just builds whatever they want, where they want, and when they want.

@@brianbarcus5853 I have traveled in both Canadian VIA Rail and US AMTRAK and I can tell you that Canadian trains are far more efficient and comfortable than the US trains. If speed is of no consequence then why do we keep having faster and efficient airplanes and cars? I thought US was a country that was ahead in technology and leader in innovation. I agree with you about red tape that prevents progress. I saw it first hand when a proposal for a metro system (underground rail) in Houston was defeated by the people who were not the first to get the benefit of using it. At last we have people in the US who are developing other faster means of transportation like the tunnel project of Elon Musk. Speed in transportation moves people faster from one place to another which saves time and we know that time is money.

True. The US spent a lot of money on weapons of destruction like bombs, missiles, guns, tanks, aircrafts, warships etc., more than Russia and China combined! If they had use a fraction of this to improve on its infrastructures and for the welfare of its people, it will be a better, healthier, peaceful and a happier country!

Chinese citizens are punished by having their social credit score lowered for engaging in a number of different behaviors, including; - Bad driving. - Smoking on trains. - Buying too many video games. - Buying too much junk food. - Buying too much alcohol. - Calling a friend who has a low credit score . - Having a friend online who has a low credit score. - Posting “fake news” online. - Criticizing the government. - Visiting unauthorized websites. - Walking your dog without a leash. - Letting your dog bark too much. The Communist Chinese government is bragging about its social credit system preventing 2.5 million “discredited entities” from purchasing plane tickets and 90,000 people from buying high speed train tickets in the month of July alone. “China restricted 2.56 million discredited entities from purchasing plane tickets, and 90,000 entities from buying high-speed rail tickets in July,” tweeted the Global Times, a Chinese government mouthpiece.
