Actually that engine is a V-4 Ford. It is made by the European Ford division. The V-4 was used for years in the small Ford cars and trucks. It actually is a really good little engine. You can get a bunch of performance parts out of England and Germany.
@HelterSkelter1992 жыл бұрын
I believe they were usually found in industrial applications in the US/Canada. We had an old White forklift with one and I think they were also in skid steers and generators ect. Parts were a pain to find in the US tho even 30 years ago, I think we horse traded it for an 50's Clark with Continental flat head 4.

You have to be careful with them, but they will get the job done. You really should winch the vehicle out in deep snow so you don't tear up a track or break a rear axle. Overall they are very reliable. Thiokol has some of the most sought after cats by far. Thanks Mark

How big of a pain is it to remove the fuel tank to really do a good flush and get out all the junk once and for all. You are so right, once a person has been used to using a nylon rope its painful to go back to a chain for that type of work even if its a steady pull as any slack that develops in the chain is oh so painful.
@CaseysOffRoadRecovery2 жыл бұрын
Ya we did get the tank cleaned out real good and hopefully we won't have any further problems. The chain didn't bother me much and the rope was froze in the 4 inches of ice in the back of the truck....so..... lol
@charlesb42672 жыл бұрын
@@CaseysOffRoadRecovery Good to hear you got the tank issue sorted out, I had a lot of struggles this summer from an old truck on the farm that had dyed farm gas used in for all those years and gas evaporated out of the tank over the years leaving such a mass of the most horrible crap, it coated the inside of the fuel lines and made it into the carb and plugged up a stupid mini screen they thought was a great idea to put in just before the float valve but only able to get at it by disassembling the carb !. Thought I would mention that in case your carb has something like that inside as well. As to the soaked frozen rope, I bet pulling hard on that would cause internal damage, can't see it being too good for a rope. At least for the most part you have decent weather in Hurricane and can thaw everything out "usually" !

The engineblock is from a Ford v6 used in among other things European Ford Capri, they chopped of two cylinders and made a v4 and used it as an industrial engine, Saab was looking for a replacement for their two-stroke engine and found this v4

I'd line the inside of the snowcat with Armaflex (10mm should do the trick). That stuff is usually used to insulate boats, but I used it on my trailer and it's amazing how temperature stable that thing has become. It should also make that thing a LOT quieter. It's super easy to deploy, it comes with adhesive already in place. Just keep in mind that it's quite sensitive to physical abuse, so the ceiling and the upper walls are fine, everything you touch on a regular basis should get a cover of plywood or similar.
@mrmoses24342 жыл бұрын
Call it "Postman Cat". Not sure if Americans will get the reference. There's an old English cartoon called Postman Pat. Your cat kinda reminds me of his van. Also consider adopting a black and white cat to take on recoveries 😆.

Those dogs have all been chased by vehicles, cows, horses, mules and a Mountain Lion. They usually stay out of trouble and out of the way. You sure wouldn't want to let a city apartment dog out in a situation like this. When dogs are exposed to equipment, vehicles, animals from day one they tend to stay out of the way. Most dogs would die to live a life like my dogs are living! I would much rather expose them to risk that to lock em in a kennel, apartment or a backyard.

Don’t want to be a doom n gloom merchant but we never had any luck with that V4 Ford. I worked for a Ford dealer 1976/88 and there was a never ending line of vehicles with the V4 that required engine work. Cylinder head gaskets, electrical gremlins/misfires, cracked exhaust manifolds, cooling and fuelling issues but the show stopper was the camshaft drive gear, it had bonded on nylon drive teeth running on the crank metal gear, the nylon teeth would strip off the cam gear, that kinda spoils your day. Think Ford did eventually updated to a all steel cam gear. Been a Ford man all my days but sorry to say I’d have no faith in that V4. Super video, that’s some office you work in.
