Olive green was used for the engineering fleet. Vehicles/wagons used by the military were in standard bronze green. I believe you are right in saying this is the definitive lowmac model.

Hi Craig, very good review of a superb wagon, I hope Ellis Clark bring a selection of these wagons with them to G.E.T show in Milton Keynes in a few weeks time, maybe they will get the moulds of Hatton’s and produce the Rail Head Treatment Train wagons and then some FEA wagons as well if we’re really lucky, Rapido have just dropped their lowmac which is very good indeed, I bought a departmental yellow model which I’m very happy with, thanks for sharing.

Sam was waxing lyrical about the rapido version- my mind goes back to the baccy/hornby std4mt 460- and the class 47.. 31... I could go on... like the chain loops though... another cracking video mate!

@@lukejackson8741 i don't have a steak in it either way, but the load Rapido provide isn't enough to sway me, these are the better model in terms of finer detail, so I would suggest buying one of each and making your mind up :) 😀

Obviously elephant in the room is that Rapido have made a mightily fine model of this (with a very nice wheel load for use on the wagon or around the layout) and this is for around 20% cheaper at the retailers. This will be a fair factor especially if building a rake. At a reasonable sort of distance I can't put much between these through a computer screen at least. The duplication is only a slight shame since as you have highlighted a fair few areas where this appeals over the Rapido (eyelets/couplings/P4) justifying the price increase somewhat. The other thing the naysayers will ignore is that you can't easily get a hold of the Rapido one as they all sold out at least with the first batch and even if you can you can build a larger rake as most SKU's are a single livery example. At very least the sell out proves there's a fair market for these long lived vehicles. There's extremely few layouts that can't justify at least one and I wish both companies success that will completement their respective) WD 2-10-0 and S160 (another reason why it's understandable they've both gone for this).

When you paying for quality models you don't mind paying said price . But unlike other manufacturers who charge high prices for models that aren't nowhere near as good . Or models that are just older ones that have been tarted up a bit . That's just unfair and a rip off. But these models look the business and are a fair price.

Thinking about buy the olive green on and putting a tank on it, I hear you ask how I'm I going to hold it in place! By using two small magnetic, one on the model tank and the other on the lowmac, too scared of breaking the eye on the lowmac so won't be fiddling with that. Nice price and I really like the colour of the boxes and how much protection there is in them. I think they look better than the accurascale one.

@@glennscotttrains7513 Accurascale is a different wagon mate, But don't be afraid of the hoops, just do what I did very very gently, and if they do snap they're easily repaired with a cap of glue apparently :) Good idea regarding the magnet too!

I fully agree the preorder game sucks. Ive just picked up a nice 47 Lady Diana Spencer at 40% off, i'd rather shop older bargain basement models that are a couple of years old than wait 3 years. In three years I could of sacked the hobby off and started flying radio controlled airwolf helicopters! not theres an idea, great video Craig look at you rocking the gold chain though! If you had to part with your money to buy 3 Lowmac wagons, after reviewing both the Rapido and now the Clark Railworks, which would you buy? For me it's Clark Railworks version purely cos they have them NEM pocket. Tim

For the slight price difference, it has to be the ECT option, purely because of the extra attention given. The Rapido unit would need to be severely discounted for me to want to buy anymore

Rapido model is a pain to change the coupling which I had to as I run hornby magnetic couplings on all my stock and you can’t easily change wheelsets

@@garylong7599 it's not as easy as just plugging in a new one is it? But, Rapido has stated for engineering purposes they had to go for the one they did. And for whatever reason, ECT didn't seem to have that same issue thankfully!😀

@@IronHorseRailways I cut the cross member out at one end and fitted my own 3d printed shortened NEM pocket mounted using the original screw but allow rotation around the screw I then shortened the couplings and glued and pinned in place. Stupid thing is they added lots of detail unearth the wagon that you can’t see due to the tension lock obscuring the view unless you turn the wagon upside down, think they lost the plot on this one
