For those that might be wondering about the penalties. I hope I'm able to help here. I've been watching this since the season started. You can pretty much tell which items are one per customers. For example the big cheese wheels, the grills, the cutting boards, the aprons, the cooler bags. Can't remember which items exactly they grabbed more than one of. Prior to taping, the contestants are briefed on which items are one per customer. In the rush of excitement, and with everything going on, and as fast as you want to shop, it's easy to get caught up in the action and grab more than one. Hope this helped. How they go about subtracting the penalties, that I'm not sure of.

In the uk version you also get penalties if you knock anything over, you have to pick them up or get penalties per product. The USA version is sloppy though and encourages them to be messy. I prefer a clean sweep so I’m a fan of the uk version for their rules lol

It is also important to note that in the original Lifetime version, the penalties were never announced or revealed at the checkout stands. The announcer/play-by-play man Johnny Gilbert does bring them up whenever a shopper fails to pick up a product they knocked to the floor, for example. There was one time, however, where he did say a penalty will be assessed: this one shopper stormed so fast into the drinks and snacks aisle, his cart collided into some six pack of 7-Up soda cans, crushing them. But when it was time to hit the total buttons, the penalty was never brought up again. Host David Ruprecht was limited to speaking about shoppers who didn't complete the big money maker objective correctly (International Bread Center, Frozen Yogurt Machine, and the like). This episode may have been the first time in its run where the topic of penalties was actually brought up by the host.

There’s been penalties since the 1990s for stuff like over the limit items, dropped items, running into other contestants or camera men. Usually it goes unsaid unless it makes a big difference.

Contestants are told before the show what they are allowed to only get one of and the rules in total. We don't see it on TV. They were fully aware they broke the rules on this.

Their riddles were ultra simple, and yet they messed up. A "vegggggggggggie" is a vegetable, men !!!!!!!!! What did they do ??????? I'm French, so English is not even my mother tongue and I've never lived in an English-speaking country, and yet I would have been way smarter than them loooooooool.

It's just that I was surprised you did not go to the vegetables area when it's written "veggie" to eat with "lamb". But it's true that a "veggie" can be canned too. It's not always something fresh. Sorry. And yes, you're right, it's very different on the spot : the clock ticking is stressful and the huge money at stake is very stressful. Btw, do you pay taxes on the amount earned ? Did you take away all that you had put in your shopping carts ???? If so, did you have to pay taxes on the monetary value of those grocery items....? These questions arise in my head because I just recently learned that contestants had to pay taxes on what they earn on game shows, and I found that shocking to say the least.

@@SuperMatyoO haha it’s totally ok 👌. Believe me, I was very annoyed by myself to not get it right away! 😅😅. Veggie completely slipped my mind, so instead of looking for a vegetable, I started rhyming foods with Ham haha. A lesson learned for sure to thoroughly read as opposed to jumping the gun! I remember feeling like I was drowning when I couldn’t think of the answer! I felt confident with winning the 100k, but man, it got me! Haha Earnings do get taxed just like anything else for sure. The food in the basket does not come home with us, that stays behind. We do get to keep the sweaters! Everything on that show is non scripted and 100% real. Our episode was all one take and everyone did great on there. Staff and crew were complete sweethearts and Leslie was a great host. By far one of the best days of my life.
