I actually read somewhere that the old Chinese mobile version of Terraria had microtransactions that offered death prevention, vanity items and an item that could be combined with certain other items that are dropped from Pre-Hardmode bosses to unlock the 10th hotbar slot. And that sounds tame in comparison to this.

I think in the old Chinese version it was made to be pay to play, or more like a service/subscription, and more online based. Not sure if the new version there is, but I'm still researching it.
