Dr. Beale is one of those guys that will change your life. As a Reformed Baptist, I have gained so much from this guy. You can read ANYTHING he writes and it will shift your perspective in significant ways. It is quite rare to encounter someone like that. Just got my copy of the "Dictionary of the New Testament use of the Old Testament" today. Both a hard copy and on Logos. Been sneaking peeks all day at work. Just from rushed readings of the Biblical Theology and Justification articles, I can say it is worth every penny.

This was an excellent episode. One primary presupposition that I saw functioning inherently in the biblical theology discussion is that of the singular essence of Scripture. Every text, regardless of nuanced layers, coheres with both itself and the singular thrust of Scripture as a whole.

It is always great to have Dr. Beale on your podcast. His insights and time-tested scholarship definitely helps in realigning our understanding of the Scriptures within the Reformed and Evangelical tradition. Thank you so much for this! God bless you both.

Fantastic conversion. I’m so humbled to be a part of the OP with such great men of God . Their level of academics along with their humility and senses of humor are so inspiring and encourages me to pray often for them and all our pastors and elders . “Obey your leaders and submit to them-for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account-so that they will do this with joy and not with groaning, for this would be unprofitable for you.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭17‬ ‭LSB‬‬

Camden, you mentioned that you, for lack of a better way if saying it, are interested in the 40 year wilderness experience. Has there been works written on it as typological of the AD30-AD70 period?

In the discussion of plagiarism around 1:09, in what sense do you mean "unfortunately it doesn't matter" ? It seems to me that if someone makes an honest mistake in citation God is not going to discipline them and that the person should be immediately forgiven by all the people involved if they say something like : "thanks for pointing that out I will add the necessary documentation" the goal is to learn truth for the glory of God so if someone does not receive lots of charity for mistakes like this there is a risk of dishonoring God... in other words I think Christians should have a different understanding of intellectual property than non-christians... anyone have any thoughts on that topic or suggested reading material for me to know what the general consensus on intellectual property is in Christendom?

Question.. what good is going to a seminary if I need to go now to Texas and learn your interpretation methods if only your methods are correct? Seems to be many methods of interpretation is this not a contention amongst religious sects? Wasn't there a time when Christians could not read the Bible it must be interpreted to them? What do you say to all the fathers when in the Bible it says call none the father for you have none before me? I find it to be contradictive in nature and confusing to conform. How do you convince indigenous tribal peoples of the Congo that their Word of Mouth history of Beginnings is incorrect and only the Bible from which Christian faith emerges is the correct one?

This has to be about using circular reasoning, to defend one's existence. 😮 If most references in the NT are not at all about JC in the OT (or vice versa), but seem to be pure illusions, then there are probably no "real references" anywhere. If this shows that it is not credible that even the so-called "real references" are real, then these are also most likely illusions. Then why even try to prove that JC is in the OT? 😊

Hi! Brother, that’s an interesting question. I am afraid that there is something more than meet the eyes (literally). Why do you think the OT prophetic passages about the Messiah are so cryptic and are scattered across many different books? Why didn’t God just put everything concerning the Messiah in one easy to find place for the readers’ benefits? After the resurrection, Why did Jesus spend time teaching the apostles/disciples to see what are hidden about himself in the OT? Why did Jesus need to do that? Statistically speaking, these OT predictions could only point to Jesus but no other person in history or the time to come. Is that a coincidence? There is no circular reasoning here. This has always been God’s plan for salvation but it must be hidden in plain sight. Otherwise, it would not be accomplished. Believe it or not, you need the Biblical context of a spiritual world and spiritual beings (Unseen Realm and Supernatural, books written by M. Heiser) in order to truly appreciate God’s mystery and plan of salvation. BTW, just like to point out that the word is allusion not illusion (the automatic transcript is wrong). God bless.

The moment you recommended the Nestle Aland new testament Frankenstein I immediately knew this was going to be a water of time. This is not reformed in any way shape or from if you are using that abomination of a text for your studies and... Teachings. Anyone who trusts that text made up by non believers and occultist have zero idea of church history and don't care for the truth. How can you not know about this? And if you do how can you not care and still use it? If you want to interpret the old testament just buy a reformation bible in your language and believe what the interpretation of the apostles and Jesus, simple. They were inspired by the Holy Spirit, they can't be wrong. If you speak English you buy a KJV, if you speak Spanish you buy a Reina Valera, if you speak German you buy a Lutheran bible, etc. and believe what it says because it is a perfect translation of the perfect text preserved by God, a gift for the nations, not made up forgeries and gnostic manuscripts from Egypt. I hope no one is misleaded by your words and start thinking that there is no perfect bible because that's a lie! Buy a reformation bible in your language brothers and sisters, is all you need to be 100% sure that you have a real bible in your hands with no errors. The same texts that the apostles wrote, the same text that Jesus read, the same text that was passed to the disciples of the apostles and so on. There a lot of liars and proud egocentrics that think they know better than God himself, they don't believe in inerrancy or preservation, they believe in the faulty interpretations of wicked men. An insult to God is what textual criticism is. Stop believing textual criticism GARBAGE.
