@@sfmz3 I used Siam Legal International, but I check all the boxes required to apply for my VISA of choice. In the Trendy Office Building, located in Soi Sukhumvit 13, there is plenty of "VISA agencies" specialized in "mission impossible" kind of cases (they are much more expensive, asking 35,000 THB for support in a VISA application, with a guaranteed 100% success rate. However, what they do is basically a fraud).

I’ve been coming and going to TH for 15 years. Having both short and long stay visas. I’ve been using visa services and I’ve done the paperwork myself. I’m pretty familliar with how TH gov thinks. Without having read the official info about the DTV _my interpretation_ is you can stay for 180 days in TH during a 5 year period with multiple entries. I.e. pop in for a week or two (no longer that 180 days) doing whatever while still be allowed to do some work and then leave again. Extending a visa is basically a new application when the old expires and therefor a new fee. 1 extention is normal for any visa nowadays and then you have to leave the country. You are allowed to do your own Freelance work or work for your current employer while staying in TH. This would normally require a work visa so DTV should be alot easier if you fit this profile. Do note that a NEW application for the same type of visa is NOT an extention of your current visa. You can apply over and over, just saying… ALSO do note that if you stay in TH for more than 180 days you become a tax resident of TH which is probably why the DTV is for 180 days only… I doubt you get anything for your tax-recidency status when it comes to public services, you still will have to keep xpat health insurance covering 400.000 thb minimum. The Thai multi year visa scheemes for 5/10/20 years which you can buy for millions of Bath are in reality not 5/10/20 year visas. They are 1 year Non-O Retired visas that will be applied for yearly by the staff working for the scheeme (they essentially act as a regular visa service). Yes, they throw in some massages etc included in the price but instead of paying 1900 THB / year for a Non-O Retired visa where you need to show 800.000 thb you pay millions of Bath extra for a few massages. You need to see through the hyoe with everything in TH. Buyer beware! You still need to do 90-day reporting of your whereabouts, there’s no getting around that. During my 15 years it has never been easier to apply for a visa than what it is currently. If you can spell your own name you can do it yourself. Contact the Thai embassy in your county or Thai Immigration and ask for a an application and a checklist of what paperwork they require, after assembling the documents, then it literally only takes about 7 minutes to fill out the application. They have made it much easier than what it used to be. Sorry for the long post! Good Luck and Welcome to Thailand. :)

When you leave and come back your 180 days will reset, and you'll own no fee. this is literally what the re-entry is all about. essentially you're paying the 10,000 because you're choosing to buy a NEW DTV, and restarting your 180 days. Japan has this as well, and probably other countries. but seriously this is cheap and awesome.

Benefits of a Thailand DTV Visa These details are also not fully confirmed, and are subject to change: The income requirements and visa fees are lower for Thailand compared to other Southeast Asian countries offering similar visas. You can extend the visa once for up to 180 days which costs you 10,000 THB. A total of 93 foreign nationalities are eligible for the DTV Visa Thailand. This visa allows you to legally work remotely while in Thailand for international companies and clients. You can bring along your spouse and any children below the age of 20. As the visa lets you stay up to 180 days in Thailand, you won’t need to pay any taxes on income derived from foreign sources.

I have a different interpretation (which is like having an opinion and an axxhole... everyone has one). My take is that you have 180 days per year in each year of the five year visa term, with a one-time option to extend 180 days in any one of those five years, but only ONCE. I disagree that you can reset the 180 clock by making a visa run. The multiple reentry just allows you to come and go as you please, but 180 days per year in Thailand is the max. But hey, TIT! I could be completely wrong.
@UF2504 ай бұрын
I totally agree with you, they probably go by the original entry stamp once you hit 180 days you either need to extend or gtfo

Correct, you will not just be able to do border runs every 180 days, and then come back and get another 180 days on re-entry.

@Dawg99999 That doesn't really make any sense. So a one-time stay of 180 days (6 mo) or five annual stays of 36 days, or some other short variable every two to three years? Don't see the logic or advantage of such a visa. You could come in on multiple 30-day exemption or 60-day tourist visas, and with extensions, stay longer. But hey... TIT.

The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is a newly announced visa designed to support the government’s efforts to increase tourism in Thailand. It provides an incentive to foreigners that work remotely, colloquially referred to as “digital nomads”, to stay and work in Thailand for extended periods without immigration or tax concerns. If you successfully acquire a DTV, you will be rewarded with a 5-year multiple-entry visa and the right to stay in Thailand for a total of 180 days a year, with an option to extend for another 180 days. This is the perfect kind of visa if you’re looking to experience the Land of Smiles as a remote worker and earn income without the many restrictions and drawbacks of standard tourist visas.

I have been to Thailand for over 15 years on 3-month tourist visas and Thai retirement visas obtained from Australia's Thai Embassy. with the thought, I would live there in my final years. At present it is better to give Thailand a miss. Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Bali will do for now. My income is well more than Thai requirements usually Bt120,000 a month I am single. It's all a pig in a poke. I also own a house in Australia so all is a complicated effort, I need it simple...

I think it will be like the 6 month multi-entry tourist visa except you are allowed to work remotely and don't need to leave the country every 60 days. I think that once you enter the first time you have 180 days total. So even if you leave the country for a few days and come back it does not reset the 180 day limit .
@razorgarf4 ай бұрын
So it's essentially a 180 days Visa over a 5 year period that you can only extend once making it 360 days in total?
@samiam81144 ай бұрын
@@razorgarf That is my best guess. A major flaw in my theory is that it does not explain why the visa is good for 5 years instead of just 1 year in that case. So it could very well be reuseable multiple times over a 5 year period (with one extension allowed). If that is the case then 10k is a bargain compared to the current multi-entry tourist visa. That makes me think that regular tourists not earning some minimum income remotely may not qualify.

The main reason Thailand is launching this is for tax, they said that's their main focus to increase revenue, taxing all the foreigners who stay in Thailand for long periods (as of 1st January 2024) . Remember anyone who does the DTV visa WILL be liable for tax (17% minimum) as its a 180 day visa. Secondly I was speaking to a Immigration officer yesterday he said the funds will need to be in a Thai bank account (AGAIN taxable) this has not been 100% confirmed reference the bank account so I cant say with certainty. He also said it will be 10,000 THB for every 180 days. Hope this helps

I'm in the military and will retire at age 45. I no longer enjoy living in the USA and want to live in Bangkok but, I'll have to wait 5 years to be 50 to apply for the retirement visa. Can you get waivers or anything to be able to get the retirement visa before 50?

I'm confused? So you only get 180 days for 5 years, or as long as you go in and out during 5 years, you can come and go in 180-day periods. What's the point of a 5 years visa if you can only stay for 180 in the 5 years the visa is good? I don't think I understand how it works

Btw, maybe you can do a video about the common jobs Digital Nomads do in Thailand and greater SE Asia? What is in demand there? Thanks

From what you said it was proof of funds in bank.

My initial reaction was I could replace my ‘Retirement Visa’ with a DTV but unfortunately reading up you have to be employed.

This was what I understood to, like you I don't work... also where do you need this ฿500.000 in a Thai bank? or your own country's bank .. guess we wait to see

Hey Chris, where's the real money (Canadian) conversion? Grrrr😁BTW, we will be heading to Thailand in late October 24 for 5 months. I'll wait for your update on the new visa and apply as soon as it comes out. Thanks for this. Beers, I mean cheers.

hi, my DTV visa has just been confirmed. Does anyone here know from a reliable source how many days I have left until I have to enter TH? Normally it is 90 days after confirmation. But there is nothing about this on my visa. Thank you!!!

Sounds to me this ideal (and targeted) for those who want to 'winter" in Thailand. As most will come from Northern hemisphere this will lift the economy in the 'off season', but you could also use your 180 days/Yr in chunks. Either way, each time you stay it will eat up your 180 days, no visa runs to get another 180 days, as this is why they offer the one off extension? If I'm wrong, then I really don't understand and it's more complicated than it needs to be, again?!

This sounds good as i want to spend 6 months in Thailand and 6 months somewhere else. I thought it was 180 days and then 180 days within the five years and that's it. You basically get 360 days within five years

Still waiting on some or any official information on the 60 day Thai Visa Exemption. Someone puts this info out there, but no details & travelers need to know the details before they buy airline tickets.
