Total Drama Island's revival features the return of Chef Hatchet and Chris McLean, but the cast is completely different. 16 brand new contestants to the Total Drama franchise will compete for a grand prize, with a modern spin to the revival to make it feel fresh. Will it be worth watching?
The Total Drama franchise has stumbled over the years, eventually becoming a race around the world and then a show where the original cast is babies. A lot has changed since the beginning, but Total Drama Island's new revival is going back to its roots. It's heading to Cartoon Network and HBO Max.

I think Total Drama NEEDED to have a new cast for a revival to start off with. Maybe later we could bring the Gen 1 cast back as _side role_, but we should be trying to build up new characters and use them for a good while, not just keeping them for one season and then throwing them away like what happened with a good chunk of ROTI's contestants.

Bringing back the old characters is what everyone wants, but it's not going to be as easy as you think. As time goes on, getting old voice actors to come back and finding where they went isn't easy, especially with a show that is so character heavy. They could obviously bring back the old cast and replace the voice actors for like 60% or more of the cast, but I think that would end with back lash.

Let’s not kick this down before it even comes up. The total drama fandom was heart broken when the show became a bunch of babies and this new cast feels needed for a fresh new start. This cast is the most diverse we’ve had in awhile and I have high hopes.

Honestly, I think the new cast looks promising. Judging from their designs, it looks like they’ll have more realistic personalities (with the exception of scary girl). One of Pakitew’s biggest problems was that the characters were incredibly unrealistic, and you could tell just by looking at their designs. The new designs are a lot more relatable, which is why I’m cautiously optimistic.

I’m really interested in this coming back, although I can’t help but remember that one indie fan series sequel of TD Island that got axed by the company behind the TD Island. That was so wild, I felt so bad for that indie series it got one episode out and was gone in a blink of an eye 😭

Personally I would love to see the old cast come back, but in a later series. Starting off with a new cast feels like a good way to spice things up at the beginning. When I first saw these designs, I wasn't sure about them. They're super bright and colorful, but also more low key than what we're used to. Most of them don't scream their personality, but I've come around to liking quite a few of the designs.I'm not getting my hopes too high, but I'm excited to give the new series a chance!

Lot of fans were disappointed. It was plans to have Total Dram to have 10 seasons. Now TD is back on track. I don’t like total dramarama though

For me I love this cast so much, it's definitely an upgrade from Pahkitew Island, but it also gives that Og cast vibe due to how basic and normal they look. The standouts for me are Ripper, MK, Wayne, Raj, Chase and Axel

I am really excited for this new cast and I cannot wait to see what they’ve got. As for the earlier generations: they should definitely come back in some way. Many character arcs need to be concluded and others deserve a second shot. So yes, in a potential future season some people of the first, second and third generation should most definitely return for another shot at a million (or more) dollars. As for now, let’s see what those fellas can do!

I think having a whole new cast is great for the show. It provides a sense of a new beginning. While I would greatly enjoy seeing some of the previous casts like Heather, Owen, Cameron, Brick, and Jo come back in cameo roles or as part of a sideshow similar to Total Drama Aftermath from Seasons 2 & 3. It would be a nice callback for long-time fans and allow the series to start over fresh.

What was awesome about original tdi were the character stereotypes. You immediately got the sense who all the characters were while having the openness to be unique and show flare. You saw your friends and enemies in all of them and each character was memorable, no matter when they were voted off. When the sequel characters came along, they were just... Bland. One note characters. You immediately knew who was going to stay and who was going to get out. You couldn't relate to any. This one... We only have the images but right now none are memorable.

I'm definitely excited for this new season. While I did enjoy the old cast, I think the main reason the show began to falter was because we weren't really getting anything new from them aside from some (in my opinion, at least) unnecessary drama, a bunch of out of character moments and toxic relationships both romantic and platonic. I think this new cast might be a good thing for Total Drama, especially after the nightmares that were Pahkitew and All Stars. I do hope the old cast pop in as cameos from time to time.

I will admit if it was any other show, I'd be with you on the tick tock thing, but if they keep to humor and spirit of the total drama series? I can imagine chris pulling some incredibly mean challenges and plot twist by including that fan aspect. Since it does leave a door open for them communicate with the outside world, potentially. A smart contestant could go in knowing that, and already have a plan to use it to cheat.

I wasn't a big fan of the Ridiculous Race, it was missing Chris McClain. Without Chris, it just didn't have the same charm. I'm excited to see a new season with our favorite sociopathic, self-obsessed, show host, even with Chef! I wish I knew when it will arrive, but that hasn't been revealed yet.

I think the new cast looks great. The original island cast all had mundane designs as well. The later cast designs have always been a bit too archetypal and that’s why they haven’t worked.

We still don't know who the voice actors for the new cast are yet. It's also not known if Chef's original voice actor from the past seasons is coming back for the new season or if they'll use Chef's voice actor from Total Dramarama.

I think the character designs could be more diverse. Everyone from the original is identifiable by one design trait, but almost all of the new characters just look bland and normal.

We know the originals so well, and there’s only so much visual variation for teenagers you can do with this art style after the OG, RotI, PI and RR. Emma for me looks a lot like Carrie in RR.

I actually can't wake and I think it's such a good idea to have a new cast. I just hope that they eventually get to a reunion season where they give the og cast the closure they deserve. I wanna see them again, make gwen back to her S1 self cause she was cool then, and give us back duncney, like have them reconnect and have a more healthy but just as entertaining enemies to lovers situation. Just fix the mistakes they made in the past.

Ya know some of these new charaters remind me a lot of the other ones in combo's. For example, caleb is like another justin although he actually had no problem participating. Nichelle reminds me a leshawna mixed with lindsey's need to stay pretty. Julia is like heather and dawn with her need to live stream all her 'protect mother earth' and all that stuff mixed with dekota's obssession with being on her phone. Bowie is like a combo of alejandro and leshawna with his manipulative sassy additude. Wayne and raj immediately reminded me of katie and sadie only male hockey players and only slightly smarter than the girls VERY slightly along with jeff's positiveness. Emma reminds me of courtney with her 'valid' anger towards her ex bf chase after the stunt he pulled 'I'm honestly surprised he wasn't arrested' and wanting to hurt him every chance she gets. For mk her laid back additude reminds me of duncan and gwen and that she's a sneaky pickpocket. Now priya, my god she's a combo of izzies crazyness sierra's obssession with total drama and her parents are absolutely insane on so many levels it's a wonder how cps didn't strip them of their parental rights. millie is kinda like cam wanting to take note of everyone elses stupidity while she's competing. Ripper is a mix between scott, honey and lightning, he's nothing but a bully and a troll 'i'm surprised he wasn't voted off his team first'. When damein points out his friends dared him audition for total drama but never watched before my only thought "that poor naive soul" and apperently chef felt the same way, damein really had no idea the amout of pain and humiliation he signed himself up for. for axel it was like shawn, eva and joe combined although the main difference between her and shawn was that she was a fighter not a hider. For chase oh don't get me started, his introduction potrays him as an dangerous prankster all I see is an adrenaline junkie with a cr*ppy sense of humor, but when it's made apparent that emma broke up with him because he cut the brakes on her car for a prank and that he didn't see it as a big deal makes obliviously unhinged and not to metion delushional since he keeps thinking they'll get back together at some point 'again how this guy isn't in prison with a straight jacket is beyond me'. Zee kinda reminds me of ezekiel and geoff's laid back additude 'ya know before he became a feral mutant'. And last but not least scary girl she's like a mix between izzy's crazy, mal's evil and joker in a deadly combo mix.

Observations i have made: There's a somewhat popular fan theory that Scary girl is the creepy girl from revenge of the island. They have the same eye color, body shape, and chin, so it seems.. plausible? Wayne & Raj are set apart from the rest by s little bit since their names are connected to each other. Wayne has this worried look in his face, both in his profile and in some screenshots. Someone has pointed out that Wayne has a "C" in his outfit (which could stand for captain) and that raj has an "A" (which could stand for alternate captain). Caleb can be seen in one image just standing while four contestants are just amazed by him. Maybe he will manipulate others with his looks similarly like Justin or Alejandro Emma is probably an either really nice person judging by her facial expressions and body language in some screenshots i found

Wow, y'know i actually thought that this new season was never going to happen. And while the description already has me rolling in my grave, i really dig the new cast, the more down to earth, "modernized" aesthetic, diverse selection of characters (featuring actually explicitally gay characters this time around, not just implied) This could potentially be one of the best generations of contestants in TD. Let's just hope for it to be at least as good as Ridonculous Race.

Two things from this I noticed that may or may not mean anything. First off is the two in the Hockey jerseys kinda look like older versions of the two step-brothers from The Ridonculous Race. And second is that it kinda looks like "Scary Girl" looks like she may be related to Izzy?
