I’ve always thought that this was either a glitch or that it wasn’t going to be eventual and that only the (4)(5) and (6) trains are the ones that are affected by the change in “the next (and last) stop” announcements. Apparently however, according to one of the members of the Transit Forums, Lance, “capacity problem within the ancient hardware of the new technology trains” could be the factor.

BRO. I'm sorry to say this but it sounds legit terrible. The fact that the R211 turned out to have these "the next (and last) stop is" announcements along with the R179, and now having these changed throughout the BMT/IND lines, just like how they did with the IRT? Dude, the system will become bland in no time. The different versions of the "the next (and last) stop is" made every single subway line unique and have their own personalities. Soon, if this takes over, every subway line will lose its variety. This is utterly disappointing. Damn it MTA.

What's the point in this? I mean not that it really matters, but I liked the previous announcements. New York City has the only subway system in the entire world that keeps messing with the announcements. New York City has the only subway system with a conductor. New York City is just so different. They could've kept the original announcements, just as they could've kept Ettinger's voice on the 4, 5 and 6 lines.

The people riding the subways don’t give a damn about what the announcements sound like so why are y’all making a big deal over it seriously.
