Have you started to PreTreat before a storm ? Slowing down spinner speed help keep product in a more defined area , so you don't loose effectiveness can help save material. When washing out equipment after a storm - be very mindfull on where water can push salt into areas that cause a problem later (trailer wiring connectors , under plastic bed liners ...)

All those flashers you put on that truck, I noticed it on the last video, the flashers look sweet.

The biggest thing you should know. Those style of spreaders can jam pretty easy. The salt you get needs to be clean, dry, not loaded until the very last minute, or stored in a heated dry environment. Loading too early and then leaving your truck parked outside in a cold day will highly increase the odds it jams. When they do jam, it’s not fun. Unload by hand, on a cold middle of the night when your behind schedule and counting on it to work. Do your self a favor and keep a long handle pointed shovel in the truck for when it happens. For this reason, as well as others, I highly recommend getting a dump and under tailgate spreader.

Salt gone product on the salters when cleaning it out. If it’s real cold. Don’t wash them out unless they can dry in a warm garage so it doesn’t freeze. Always make sure it all turns on before loading it. Don’t want to find it’s broken after it’s loaded and have to shovel it out. And lastly. Don’t worry about the license plate. Here in Vt we don’t get bothered.

I'm no expert on salt but I do know that some companies have been switching to brine for a lot of their needs because it melts more efficiently per pound of salt. Some report around a 70% reduction in salt usage compared to particle application. The county has switched to brine for pre-treat on the roads in my area as well.
@jamesnm21Ай бұрын
BTW, at 2:01 in the video that looks like major salt water frozen to your truck bed, or maybe that's soapy water from the car wash.
@29TurfАй бұрын
Brine is a money grab from someone somewhere. Our county has switched to it as well. It cost over 300,000 to get the brine equipment. But when it's to cold they drop straight salt. They spray the brine on dry roads and it's suppose to activate upon snow...doesn't work. Salt brine is a big waste. I've heard some counties where it's gets really cold are already getting rid of their brine gear.
@offended9081Ай бұрын
@@29Turfbrine is designed only as a pre application, it helps because it doesn’t fly off the road as cars drive over it like rock salt does, and it will melt the first snow as it starts to fall, but brine is not meant to be used mid storm because the brine would just dilute into the slush and snow and move off of the road whereas the heavier rock salt would settle on the road and have a longer lasting effect

It’s better to have more than needed. Gets everyone off the nasty roads and home quicker after salting. The guys appreciated you can tell. Most big business won’t get this much equipment, they try to penny pimch at the expense of the employees disgust! The more you invest, the more the extra mile the guys will go. They have reliable comfortable equipment they don’t have to waste time in the cold in the middle of the night and work on. Also let’s you sleep at night with no phone calls if you don’t go out sometimes. Goes a long way…You’ve outgrown the shop already man lol

Hear me out crazy idea. It would be great to see you purchase a salt dog pro to run in the third truck and use it this season to compare to the boss so we can truly understand where the difference in price comes from. The 1.5 salt dog pros can purchased around $5500-$6000
@BriansLawnMaintenanceАй бұрын
A comparison video could be cool, great idea. Albeit I'm pretty married to BOSS with our dealer Weingartz. Our local Buyers dealer is my salt supplier, and very likely I won't be purchasing a unit from them anytime soon with the quality of Boss and our dealer support.

So, word has it is, NY is looking into a salt alternatives. I understand the state wanting to rid of it due to harming vehicles. But I don't see it being cost effective, and the laws would have to be updated to put the liability on the people who do use salt. I don't see this going through, but then again. NY is NY. And they're out to be the "game changers" in being stupid. What about de-icing solution that airplanes use? It's good for control surfaces and moving parts, obviously can last until it washes off? Idk. I've been seeing a lot of people opt out for some sprayers and brine solutions. What about the chemicals in hand warmers? Can ya spread that down. As long as oxygen hits it. It keeps producing heat?
@michaellewis4632Ай бұрын
Yeah you can use magnesium chloride it works up to negative 40 and doesn’t destroy roads

Just bought a VSI 305 for spraying brine and it worked amazing until I ran out of brine 😂. I have to wait on boss to get me my brine buddy otherwise I'd be the only guy in SW MI with brine. Getting by with the western pro flo 545 even dealing with alil over 3.5 acres this is amazing for the guys just starting out. 😂 not the 34k for jumping into brine

What are you charging? Ex. If buy the salt for 65 a ton do you triple the rate?
@BriansLawnMaintenanceАй бұрын
We have a whole budget and template for estimates with LMN on how we price the material and the equipment to do so. Going off of tripling the rate may be a first approach but long term you'll want to dial in your numbers accurately so you know what you need to charge to make money

That does look like a spot for the license plate as long as it stays on if you take the chute off. Never know if you need to tow something or park it somewhere when you’re out. There are chute thieves out there.

I run a Fisher Steelcaster. I wash it out if there's nothing in the forecast for the next week. After I wash it I run the conveyor and pour drain oil on it for 1 complete revolution and throw a pump of grease in each bearing.
