I don’t think they should have released most of these paints. I ignored the videos showing the streakiness due to my art supply obsession but I wish I hadn’t. I used several different of the best quality cotton papers and even diluted them right down to almost no pigment and still the gummy streakiness. The binder also dries at a different rate to the water so you get patches of dry paint then clumps of darker paint that takes ages to dry. I would only recommend buying these if you want a very pretty box and you want your artwork to have a faux-naive look to the finished texture. Two yellows are okay (of the two sets) and the blue is alright and a matte brown colour. The rest are honestly some of the worst paints I’ve ever used and I have a lot lot of paints. I find it hard to let go of art supplies I don’t use much (the PH Martin’s watercolours for example) but I’m considering selling these and losing most my money. In context the only other paints I ever gave away were cotman, and cotman are mostly better than these. Green earth is always a very pale pigment and often gummy but this one just dries so badly and clumps and you can’t get a nice fine wash with it. Wet in wet the paint doesn’t budge an inch.

The streakiness is something I've seen in many other channels (no matter the paper being used) with some colors/pigments being worse than others. I was really interested in this set of paints (they are using a lot of interesting natural pigments), but I think they really need to improve the binder formula and the pigment to binder ratio too.

Yes you are right. They have to think about the formula again . Im disappointed.. I hoped they are better because they sound so good.. vegan.. natural pigments.. and Schmincke Horadam is a name where you expect quality and perfection.

You're able to make great art out of anything! 😍 I must admit they're not my most favourite colours, although I love the fact that they're vegan and they're made of natural pigments. It was very interesting to see how differently they behave on different paper. The artwork is like always: 👌❤

I love it I don't have those painrs, but I do have some new pants I need to swatch... it's really interesting that they behave so differently on one paper over the other. Thank you for the great ideas.

Yes it is strange that hey behave so much different. It is normal that watercolors can look more patchy on hot pressed paper, but the difference with these paints is crazy.. I need to test them more. Thank you for watching ❤️

I got both sets last Friday. If I could send them back and get my money back, I would. Hope the dried pans will better. It's undiluted extremely jellylike and incontrolable. It also takes ages to dry. Diluted a lot the colours are extremely unimpressive and still hard to control. 😢

I also was disappointed at first.. but we have to think about what paints these are. I tried to use them for very delicate motifs.. like small flowers and other small nature themed picture ideas.. ( without my colorful backgrounds, on white paper) and for these motifs they looked beautiful. I think I would not use them how I usually use my watercolors ( That is why I almost haven’t used them after the first tests..) I can totally unterstand your feelings about them. Perhaps Schmincke should release a „how to“ or in generell a video about these paints to explain how they were made and how to use them in the best way. this would be helpful.

Or maybe the proper use is for finalizing stuff in the final layer. I do like the earthy tones, it's just the application that's extremely strange.

Ich bin schon sehr gespannt auf einen zweiten Teil, vielleicht hast du ja bis dahin sogar noch das absolut perfekte Papier gefunden. Schade dass es in deinem Sketchbook nicht so ausgesehen hat, wie du es dir vorgestellt hast, wobei ich persönlich finde, dass es einen eigenen Scharm hat, mir gefallen beide Zeichnungen sehr. Vielen Dank liebe Kati! ☺️ Ich hab sie mittlerweile auf anderem Mixed Media Papier getestet .. war so mäh.. weiss nicht. Irgendwie hatte ich mir mehr erhofft von den Farben aber ich mache auf jeden Fall einen Teil 2 wenn ich mehr zu denen sagen kann. Liebe Grüße ❤️

Yes I missed sth like a nice pink color.. to mix beautiful violets perhaps… but if you look at the colors you can get from this series, these are all kind of earthy brownish… this plant pigment set has the most variation.

they are almost perfect for painting the landscape here, just need a violet like you said since some areas around here have a bit of a purple hue in the summer 🙂

While your talent at creating beautiful art made these paints look their best, I'm still not impressed with them at all. I haven't liked them in any of the videos I've seen them featured in. Your artwork was top-notch, however.

Thank you Miranda! 🥰 I am still not sure what I am thinking about them… Im quite splitted… I have to make an artwork on different paper. Then I will share it.. The Stil de Grain color is rly awesome.. also the Lalvarit Violet is not as blotchy and a bit granulating as well. They sound so good but I am a bit disappointed if I am honest…
