The New World of the Gnomes - Intro

A magical adventure from 1997 retelling of the original series as David and his nephew Sprout now travel the world to save animals and preserve nature as it is endangered by problems of modern day pollution and environmental dangers.
The show was also made in collabration with the World Wildlife Foundation.

I only recently found out this show even exists. It's weird to think that David the Gnome was a childhood classic of lots of kids I knew and yet we somehow had never heard of any of its sequels.

Sadly I never saw "Gummibears", I remember "Glücksbärchies" ("Care Bears" in English) dey were adorable!!! I used t'watch dem when I was really small an' den dey went off d'air an never came back on, I was really upset about dat!!! I nearly forgot about dem so tanks for remindin' me!!! I don't remember seein' "Dragon Ball"!!! "Once Upon a Time... Life" I didn't see it as a child but I would have loved it!!!! I was much more interested in dese educational cartoon dan voilent programs!!! :)

@TotallyLovelyKate It wasn't until 2006!!! A friend o'mine recorded it for me!!! He used to stay in a lot an' watch kids programs an' record dem!!! I don't know if I should be tellin' ye dis but he wasn't very gappy growin' up he would always tell me how much he disliked his life an' he often tought very dark toughts!!!! But after he saw d'finale of "David the Gnome" He said he'd never tink dese silly toughts again an' would live life t'd'full just as David did!!! Amazin' dat!!!!

Yes I remember dem on'y too well!! And yes der are a lot!!! I have a few o'der intros on my channel at d'moment!!! I remember "Willy Fog 2" (he travelled to d'center of d'eart' an'd'bottom o'd'sea- a spin-off of "Eighty Days Around the World with Willy Fog"), "Sandokan", "The Untouchables of Elliot Mouse" (all of these were made by d'same company who made d'gnomes). I also remember "Postman Pat", "Fireman Sam", "Noddy" (all English). I didn't see "The New World of the Gnomes" until I was 12!!!

When I saw it in full, Lisa was weepin' troughout it and danimals comin' t'say goodbye to dem an' d'melancholic teme music playin' really made me feel quite down!! I was shocked when dey finally passed on!! I tink d'point dey were makin' wit' dat episode was dat nottin' lasts forever!! I still don't like how dey had to die!!

He would moan about how unpopular he was and how lonely he felt and how bad he was doin' at school despite his best efforts!!! Seein' David pass on after a lifetime of achievement turned tings around for him!!! Even dough his deat' was tragic an' terrible, at least he lived a full and good life one!!! "David the Gnome" is totally like dat because David and Lisa talk directly to d'viewer (breakin' d'fourt'-wall in a way) an' dus establish d'audiences primary relationship is wit' dem. So when dey passed on in d'finale, I felt so down!!! I won't be watchin' dat scene again for a while!!!

So dey have t'head off into the mountains where dey die!!! I hope I haven't given away too much!!! It is quite heartbreakin' to watch!!! I'd say it would be controversial to show a ting like dat to kids dese days!!!! :(

I can remember bein' at a workshop in school where we had to picture ourselves in front of small children an' tell dem a story an we could tell dem about anytin' at all but we had to make sure no one in d'story dies!!!! But when dey were makin' dis episode I tink someone in d'company should have stood up an' said "NO, let's not make this episode. Think of what the children will say" I tink a better endin' would be just for d'gnomes t'wave goodbye, it might still be sad but at least dey'd still be alive!!! But dat's just my toughts!!!!

I went onto d' IMDB page for "David The Gnome" an' I read d'top user review which had d'title: "I cried during the last episode" an' d'reviewer went on t'say how he/she loved d'series, an' dat his/her mum found dem cryin' at d'last episode an' how dey would love der kids to see it one day!!! So dat was a positive review!!! I would NEVER show dat episode to a child!!! :(

@TotallyLovelyKate Yes der is!!! It's "The Secret Book of Gnomes" by dutch author Wil Huygen!!! D'dutch title is "De oproep der Kabouters" perhaps d'gnomes died at d'end of it!!! I still don't tink it was a good reason for d'gnomes t'be killed off in d'series "David the Gnome"!!! I imagine dese days I would hope d'producers wouldn't allow for such an episode t'be made like dis!!!

@TotallyLovelyKate Yes I know what you mean, I too wish dey could live forever an' were always der t'protect d'forests, d'animals an' d'environment in general!!! But dese series' were based on a series of Dutch books written by Wil Huygen called "The Secret Book of Gnomes" an' wit'in dat series it must state dat few gnomes can live past 400!!! It still is a shame dey killed off d'central characters in d'series!!! It took me weeks to get over it when I saw it!!! Maybe I'm just a sensitive man!!!

A great ting t'show t'yer children, but I would caution you against showin' dem d'final episode of "David the Gnome" because it has a heartbreaking twist!!! What makes it doubly sad for me is dat in d'English translation of "David the Gnome" David was voiced by American Actor Tom Bosley!!! I didn't know dat when I first watched d'show!!! An' he himself passed away in late 2010!!! An' when I heard he was dead an' dat he voiced "David the Gnome" I tought o'd'last episode an' got really upset!!! :(
