Hi Everyone, Thanks for watching. Quick correction as I misspoke and said 36,600 instead of the actual 36,000 vph. I recorded this video early last week and am surprised to see how much buzz this one is getting since recording. What are your thoughts on this new release? I think this is a win for Zenith. Certainly inspiration from the Daytona but if there is a brand that can get away with this it’s Zenith. Another aspect of this watch that I believe is good for the market and enthusiasts is it puts pressure on brands to start treating luxury clientele the way they should rather than giving them a worse experience than your local cable company. Would love to hear your thoughts and thanks for watching!

Love it! In my opinion it’s now THE chronograph to own. Even beats out the speedy as it’s more wearable, has transparent caseback, automatic, has a date, is one of the iconic heavy hitter horological significant watches. Rolex can take that 10 year waitlist and 30k grey market value and shove off

Well the speedy has a sapphire caseback aswell if you take the sandwich. It is even cheaper than the Zenith and probably more accurate with the new co-axial movement (+ I think the movement looks better but that is just my taste). I mean it is a really nice watch but it probably is not better than the speedy, which still is the most iconic chronograph (and a little bit more selfaware with its looks than the Zentona).

I would take that zenith over the omega any day. Why ? It's simple in the last 50 60 years the chronograph game has been the same basically no innovations nothing different just companies like rolex and omega and even patek relaying on the past (moon bull#hit) not developing completely new movements just updating them the same over and over one useless limited edition over and over....Zenith has innovated the chronograph game multiple times (defy 21) and with this watch has done it again it's in a elite club with the glashutte original panograph and the lange sohne a club that has actually done something different not just realising the same product with a different dial and couple of updates for the last 30+years.

@@3a4op4at I would take the Defy 21 over the Speedy aswell but it is too big for my wrist. (It really looks ridicolous on my baby arm). But not this chronograph. We are talking about „a basic chronograph“ no special functions like the Defy 21 so not really worth 10 grand. 10 Grand is JLC money.

@@Longshore79 Personally that's one of the biggest appealing points for me. If I'm dropping about $10k for a luxury item, having something that makes it truly unique (like the 1/10th second hand in this case) helps justify the price a lot more.

This is a strong evolution of the Chronomaster design. There’s almost no way Zenith can keep away from the Daytona conversation. Yes, they used black bezels before. Yes, the indices and handset can be seen in the Espada from nearly a decade ago. Doesn’t matter because no one can see beyond Rolex because it psychologically dominates the community, just as we are children of the Romantic age. But a great looking watch that sticks the Zenith’s design language.

Finally a balanced and honest video about this piece. In the last few days I've seen many videos about this Zenith that were more about Rolex than Zenith. For sure there are a lot of similarities between these two pieces, but the Zenith has its own character and I honestly prefer this over a Daytona (and no waiting list!). I didn’t see “Daytona” homage when I first saw this watch. I get it, with the big bold black bezel. But the scales are different (also the layout looks cleaner/more organized than the Daytona’s) and the Zenith model stays true to the brand’s overlapping signature multi-colored subdials (I’m glad they only mildly overlap). Also, the pushers are pump style and there are no crown guards. People notice different things, but the subdials, pump pushers and unencumbered crown lead me in different direction than the Daytona. Initially I thought it was a re-edition of the older Zenith Stratos fly back model.

Kurt Nunn , I completely agree. Zenith watch has claimed the Daytona sport chronograph territory and done so with a superior movement, technology, case and dial. The 4:30 date completes the picture and makes the watch irresistible for me. I love the fact that I can read a 4:30 date window by just turning my arm without bending my elbow. Even symmetry is substantially preserved; no hour markers were harmed in this production. I want it now.

A great review not falling too far into the "its a Daytona copy" trap, if you look at the 1960s Zenith and Rolex ( which used the El Primero movement) It's the ROLEX that has morphed over the years to look more like the Zenith rather than the other way round. As for the ceramic bezel It's progress to new materials and does something completely different to the Rolex, apart from the colour it is in no way similar.

From which Zenith's design, the Zenith's Daytona comes from? Let's be real, there's nothing wrong with it. Zenith wants to sell watches and Rolex Designs sells watches. When you start to pulling hairs on why it doesn't look like a Daytona, that's when yo know it copies many design cues from it. It's a great watch, with a great mvmt, but you people have to accept it and move on: the case, bracelet, bezel, even the clasp are form the Daytona, and it's ok. It's agreat watch on its own.

If I knew zero about watches and was presented with both the Zenith and the Daytona I’d take the Zenith all day everyday and twice on Sundays. The Zenith look spectacular front and back. The chrono complication is way more dynamic and fun. The date window is welcome. But best of all the movement view is class leading at this price point. The only drawback is the potential loss on investment should you decide to sell but it’s such a looker offloading shouldn’t be too painful anyway. Home run to Zenith. Nothing wrong with the Daytona it’s also a stunner. As for all the new found love for Zenith where have you been? They have been making great timepieces way longer than even Rolex.

To be honest, until a few months ago I never heard about Zenith. And I'm far away of being able to buy one. But since I saw it the first time I'm in love with the El Primero. I found a dealer in my city and he allowed me to take a close look to it and put it on my wrist even with the knowledge that I can't afford it. It's such a beautiful piece of art. Maybe one day I'll be able to own one....

I love it! Definitely the bezel looks like the one on the Daytona but the ceramic bezel is something that everyone is moving to because of it’s scratch resistance and Rolex wasn’t the first using it! I think this one is a home run for Zenith. I love my El Primero and I think this one is even better than mine. I do really hate the comparisons to the Daytona (and the hate the fan-boys are giving this Zenith) because in my mind, the Zenith is the premier chronograph in the marketplace, not the other way around. My grail Zenith is the blue Chronomaster 2 limited edition, but this one is a very close second. Win for Zenith.

Mate as a daytona owner. I assure you this watch looks miles ahead of the daytona. I always wanted the panda dial daytona. But got the black after waiting for a year. Now I really don't want the panda. I just had a look at this at the zenith boutique. This watch is so beautiful. It makes the panda daytona look so simple and unfinished. I'm sure many will talk about this watch and its demand in future. And I hope zenith doesn't follow the rolex path.

And I really appreciate a hands-on review to provide a more objective and informative opinion on the watch, versus simply giving a hot take without having any physical interaction with the watch itself. In this regard, two thumbs up to you! Personally, I have tried both the white and black dial, and I think the watch is surprisingly very nice and actually on the wrist, the feel and look of the watch is less like the Daytona than one would think imo. Anyone who is into watches will know that this Chronomaster Sports originality dates way back from the 80s when Zenith is coming back again. Also J.F Dufour iirc use to be the CEO of Zenith then went to Rolex. That probably also brought Rolex some of the designs.

Well done, Teddy. You succeeded in managing the fine line between the acknowledgement of the inspiration drawn from the Daytona and the original offering developed from their own heritage. In my opinion, the Daytona and Chronomaster Sport have different target client bases. Rolex appears to have no regard for clients who wish to own one nice watch or to build a small collection - their marketing strategy focuses on attracting the clientele interested in the prestige of owning multiple hard to acquire but largely publicized watches, with the crown on the dial. I have heard Zenith described as “the other watchmakers watchmaker” and this associates it’s image appropriately with another brand that also focuses more on the discerning public. In this way, I see Zenith as being more respectful of people interested in acquiring one of their stylish watches equipped with an excellent movement. The Chronomaster opens the door to Rolex’s potential customers, who appreciate the looks and quality of the Daytona but who are prevented by Rolex from ever acquiring a Daytona. After all, without the El Primero movement, the Daytona might never have existed.

I think the price is right. It wants to compete with the Daytona and is qualitywise not a lesser watch. But the brand is not as well known for a non-watch enthousiast. If you are in the market for a Daytona, alternatives can´t be around 5k as there is also the prestige of an expensive watch in play here.

Allowing for some of the Daytona's design elements to creep over to the El Primero was a smart business decision from Zenith, as you point out, but in all fairness it's not a radical departure from the regular El Primero, one of my favourite chronographs. This said, the modern-day Daytona is low on my like-metre anyway, stylistically at least, but this Zenith really works for me. In other words, the difference between the two watches are significant enough to make me want the Zenith and still not desire the Rolex. I have similar feelings for the Explorer II and original, the older version being high on my Rolex list, but the newer iteration (not that it's new) hardly registering any emotional connection. Love the EP's movement, multi-coloured subs, and all-round aesthetic. Beautiful watch, as usual from this brand, plus a wonderfully respected heritage, and a reasonable price. This will be my first Zenith when it supposedly arrives next month. There are aspects that certainly take some cues from a Daytona but there are enough differences that make it stand out as a different and even superior product in some ways. Because of its recognizability, the comparisons to the Rolex is unavoidable but appreciate you didn’t call it an homage. It’s not perfect with its “scratch me now” bracelet and a less than appealing date but it’s definitely appealing enough to make it the first Zenith to enter my collection.

Zenith El Primero is my next watch. I'd have hard time choosing between this one and the 38mm, which looks just as phenomenal and arguably more suitable for smaller wrists like mine. But it all comes down to preference. Like you Teddy, I tend to favor dress or semi-dress watches. This looks darn good too though.

In all due respect, I can’t recommend the term “Zintona” as it suggests a Rolex wanna be. It’s has merit to stand on its own. This would simply give Rolex more reason to gloat and sounds like it’s just another knock-off. Lets not forget Zenith made Daytona tick until 2000... that movement has stood the test of time and is just exquisite! They also created the Zenith rainbow in the 90's which again took similar cues and was even more like Rolex's previous incarnation, there wasn't a whimper then! Personally, Zenith have created something magnificent, better...much better than its nemesis and should be applauded loudly for it👍 Ps: See if the Defy bracelet can be utilized to it, that'd work!

Teddy, I honestly think this watch is brilliant, on both a strategic and aesthetic level. The in house caliber bringing the first 1/10th second function to a chronograph, makes Zenith “el primero” in yet another watch complication. Meanwhile the design specs are on point. The contrast of the white dial with black ceramic bezel(and indices!!!!), along with subdued, differentiated subdials made me instantly love this piece. My first instinct was to say, “finally an affordable, readily available Daytona...without the Rolex waitlists. On the used market, I could see this going for 1/3 of the Daytona retail. I owned a Daytona & it kept horrible time even after servicing. Zenith absolutely slays Rolex with this watch. I always regretted selling my El Primero Stratos Flyback in black alchron, I will pick this watch up when it hits the 6k gbp price point

I would pick the Zenith over Daytona, even at the same price and availability. Zenith is simply the better, more advanced watch.

I fully acknowledge as do most enthusiast 100% that Omega and Zenith have a far superior movements. This Zenith certainly hits the mark. Really - I want to own one. However, the one thing Rolex has that Omega and Zenith does not is the brand equity that Rolex brings to market. It’s not just the watch; it’s the brand equity, and that is why the Daytona Panda is selling up to 30k on the pre-owned market. Is it worth, the market says yes. If you want the better watch? I agree with many of the comments..... there would not be a Daytona without Zenith. Therefore Zenith is not copying. I think a lower price point would put a dent in Rolex’s armor. It has worked for Omega Teddy your normal great job
