Being a scientific glassblower for the past 45 years, I've focused on a minimalistic style. I use a lathe, standard bunsens, various torches (mostly a pair of National 3a hand torches, Victor and Carlisle hand torches, and a Carlisle CC burner), a couple graphite rods, and a couple paddles. Sure, I use other tools depending what the job calls for, but for the most part I keep it simple. I retired last year and only work part-time, but I'm learning to make artistic stuff. Marbles, pendants, and other pieces are my starting point. I can see the advantage of using MadHatter Glass Works' innovative tools. I very much like the adjustable bunsen and the electric valve switch. The manifold would come in handy, too. I built my own under-table manifold with two panels, one left and one right, each with three pairs of quick disconnects. MadHatter's compact manifold adds some versatility for the table top. Looking forward to the future and all the innovations!

I started watching your vids three and a half years before I could finally get my own torch running and now I’m about six months in. I’ve finally been making spoons and some dab tools that my community seems to like pretty well thanks to your videos. I’m highly grateful for your love of glass education. It’s inspiring, motivating, and pushes my pursuit of a deeper purpose. Being able to just reach out on KZbin and grab a piece of wholesome, positive information is absolutely amazing and you make that happen for every single one of us. You’re the Bob Ross of glass I swear to god. Whether people say it or not, I think it’s safe to say that we’re all very grateful for you and what you do for the glass community.

My grand father, great uncle and uncle had neon bombarding setups, so they used torches daily. I inherited a setup and am getting into the artistic end of flame working, even though scientific glass is still a cool industry. This new gear that keeps coming out on the marketplace is so leading edge and sometimes apparent outside the box thinking as in this case with hatters' background, he is showing the industry that great minds truly do not think alike.

Amazing innovations and beautiful work! Dustin, you were my gateway into glassblowing. I discovered your videos about 10 yrs ago while browsing youtube for art glass videos. I immediately fell in love with the idea of a home studio. I spent the next six months or so absorbing all your videos and gaining as much knowledge as I could. I then bought my first torch, a Nortel mega minor. From there it has been a rocky but gratifying journey into the world of glass art. Thank you for all you have given to this community! Hi, I am an absolute newbie, I was lucky enough recently to buy a very rudimentary kit of a bundle of glass , some goggles ,and a few tools, enough to get me started. I bought second hand, kind of a freak chance as I live in New Zealand where these things are close to impossible to find. The person had brought them in from overseas . It's my new favorite thing. Now I'm hooked and I just want more than anything to set up a wee studio. I don't have a torch so I have just borrowed my son in laws wee hand held thingy, propane, basic as. But oh my,I am in love. I just want to play with this stuff forever. I am finding as many clips to watch as I can. I have just found this channel. Awsome teachings here. Really 😍 your styles.I am the impossible student, short attention ,can't understand most teachings it's an audible to brain glitch, neuro divergent attention of a blow fly... lol. But you explain really well. I get it. So, I am soaking up every little word ,the tools, your both awsome.THANK YOU!!!!!! So, here is the thing. I live in New Zealand. Middle earth to no where. Lol. Not easy to even find any tools or anything ir anyine here. I know of one lady that I want to visit as soon as I can. But shes a 4 hour drive. Me.... I would love a nice torch. I'm doing heaps of research right now.( just watched your torch clip. How I found you ) trying to find what I want and just learning ,as much as i can take in for now . I'm up for it. I have lots of time to carry on researching lol, because they cost heaps. Lol😂 So I will just keep saving until I can afford ,by then I will have narrowed down the one I can best afford for what I want to do most. ie: My grandma used to collect little glass critters from her travels. I am already selling my art in the wee tourist town i live in so I am dead keen to add glass blowing to the things i can offer people. I can already see glass kiwi and other birds we have here in nz. , i want to make lots of little sculptural works and I love those lace work ships too.v I like goblets and blown things too. ( any suggestions for what torch I need would be so appreciated. ) I've made little fish and mushrooms so far. I pretty much just want to sell all my other tools and make glass now. Any way long stories , I would be over the moon doing somersaults to win a torch. ...Or anything really. But a torch 🎉 I know postage to New Zealand will be heaps. If by any slim chance anything would come my way I would be more than happy to cover postage. You know just being super hopeful and over the top dreaming here. Anyway you guys rock. Love your clips, I will go through them all. ( so lucky we can have this especially given the remoteness of where I live on top of South Island ) I've subscribed liked , I will share, I will now bow down with a wee prayer to the flame gods 🙏 ... thank you heaps for the opportunity guys. May the flame 🔥 gods shine brightly upon all our creative pathways and especially to our teachers and tool makers like you two. Thanks for the opportunity Kimi Songbird Arohanui from New Zealand. ✌ 😊

I’ve always thought glass was pretty but this year something changed and I find it fascinating now. I’m very new to glass art and material science but I can absolutely see myself working on a project I know will be special. I’m young and money and adulting is hard where I live lol but this passion I haven’t felt before reignited a flame inside me, it feels like something to live for that I could be happy with. I can’t wait to meet everyone I can, and for once I can’t wait to learn something new everyday. Even expressing myself like this feels great and I love that this is a community that feels safe. Your videos are awesome and help make this career look accomplishable. If I get something free that’d be awesome, but as long as the industry and community stay alive, I’ll be happy lol I hope everyone has an amazing day, even if you don’t there’s always another!

Paul seems like such a cool dude! I love to see this side of the industry and ‘meet’ all the individuals creating the tools that got us to where we are. Id love to see more videos like this where you have guest creators that get to just geek out about what they’ve made, I always enjoy seeing how exited people are to share their creations with the world. Super unrelated, but the foot switch immediately gave me the thought of using it as a pyrotechnic guitar pedal lmao, prolly not the smartest idea for obvious reasons, but a fun thought nonetheless. Just added a lathe this year to the glass studio. This would be amazing to win some lathe goodies. Appreciate all you do for the glass community.🙌
