Well it could be true but you would need more information to prove it as it has only just been discovered

@@SussyFloppaYtTrue that. It could be it's own genus, or it could be a similar situation like T. Rex and Nanotyrannus. It's a big W either way.

0:17 I fully agree they always do it whenever new theropod dinosaur is identified the media should stop licking the T-rex's foot despite being unique in it's own right it is annoying indeed

Abelisaurs, it seems, were often be able to share an ecosystem with other species in their family. They must have been good at niche partitioning I suppose. Plus from that time period the only other type of large theropod you could expect showing up in that region is a megaraptoran. So far no megaraptoran material from La Colonia Formation though.

You should have explained that “comparing” Abelisaurid species to Tyrannosaurus Rex is pointless as Abelisaurids and the Tyrannosauridae belonged to two entirely different taxonomic families of Cretaceous mega-therapods. Abelisaurs had blunter snouts generally; slighter builds; and the habitats of the two families had little overlay. It is much more instructive to compare the holotype of a new Abelisaurid species to the fossils of several other well-known species from the same family. Doing so can tell us whether the new soecies was a top or second-tier or possibly even tertiary-tier predator within the environment that was its home.
