I've been thinking about moving to the midwest, and Lake Woebegon sounds like my kind of place (which says a lot about me). The problem is, I can't find it on Google maps. Or my Rand MacNally atlas, or even the AAA roads maps from the late 60's that I found in the basement, bundled together with a rubber band. The AAA maps were all of rural Minnesota. I don't know if that's an omen or a warning...

According to GK it is on a state highway (not to be found in official maps, of course) just south of St.Cloud. It is the town where all of the sponsors of his show live in. E.g., PowerderMilk biscuits, Ralph's pretty good grocery store and such are in Lake Wobegon. :)

Rose Horton Yeah, Rose, you found me out. I am kidding about moving there, and I made up all that stuff about AAA road maps from the 60's. I could never live in a place like Lake Woebegon; they don't have a Dunkin' Donuts.

Ron Howard was telling stories about his days on The Andy Griffin Show. He said many people called and asked where Mayberry was. They wanted to move there or vacation there. They weren't kidding and were very disappointed when they were introduced to reality.

Oooooooooooops: He told a local newspaper he had been accused of inappropriate touching. “I put my hand on a woman’s bare back. I meant to pat her back after she told me about her unhappiness and her shirt was open and my hand went up it about six inches. She recoiled. I apologized. I sent her an email of apology later and she replied that she had forgiven me and not to think about it. We were friends. We continued to be friendly right up until her lawyer called.” He's like everybody else.

So, the Lake Wobegon Lutheran church has a female pastor now too: seems to be the modern trend. Seems like all 4 of the churches in our town have females running them!
