During my divorce... I would put a tape or CD in and fall asleep listening to Mr Keillor....I love him....He has brought so much joy to my life...and calm!

I could listen to Garrison every evening. I do quite frequently, as listening to his voice relaxes me and makes me sleep better.

I was born in Thailand and have heard his program in Southern Illinios University and fell in love with his story...

Best storyteller I've ever heard. He's just so mellow and effortlessly witty

This is his Svengali bit, does not get any sweeter or funnier! See him channeling the higher here- a state of grace ALL if us are capable of given discipline and practice.

I remember the first time I saw Keillor's face, on a boxed set of The News from Lake Wobegon. Shock. I'd still rather listen than see him. I get taken over by a kind of morbid fascination if I see him. He's right about having a face for radio. Luckily he has a perfect voice for radio, too. And he has this strange effect on me that when he says the word 'pie,' I want to get up and eat pie. Make a pie and eat pie. I've never acted on the impulse, but it's like a hypnotic suggestion to me when he says, 'pie.'
@thomasromano93214 жыл бұрын
No, he doesn't say 'pie' he says, 'bebop areebop' pie. Get the taste of shame out of your mouth.

He puts me to sleep. I work at night and often listen to his stories to sleep during the day

If you read up about him, he considers himself to be high functioning on the autistic spectrum. His looks and carriage reflect that at times, that little "oddness".
@FigaroHey9 ай бұрын
@@thomasromano9321 I happily would if there were any rhubarb pie around here. But still.... He says the word 'pie' (as in, 'go to the Chatterbox Cafe and have a slab of pie') and I want pie. Also when he says, 'Bed,' I can feel myself getting into a comfortable bed and drifting off to sleep. 'Cake' and 'car' don't have the same effect.

Since 1975 I've listened to PHC. Nothing can change my mind about this fascinating experience. Don't give up Garrison.

Admittedly I’m able to relate to so many of his inner thoughts and reasoning’s that I assumed was only unique just to me.

I don’t think there will be a better story teller in my lifetime at least. Not many create a fictional world and can talk about it every week like he can about lake wobegon

LOL, so good...I couldn't even remember how he'd gotten off the topic of Clarence and his tooth when he came back too it. You just get sucked into the stories so deeply.

I'm a year older than GK and immediately heard the stylings of old '40s radio when I managed to tune in to his show. He's moved that kind of warm recall into his art form, certainly does it justice. Our listening to radio was our family entertainment, out on the edge of the prairies ourselves in a plains state. When Garrison delivers his stories, it rings so true to what our lives were like in our small farming community.

@danielallen34547 жыл бұрын
There is, but I have been unable to find it on youtube.
@FigaroHey5 жыл бұрын
I think it's from the tape set, The News From Lake Wobegon, Summer. I've got it on cassette somewhere... But look for videos with pictures of the yellow box and The News From Lake Wobegon with a picture of the lake and the town on it. It's in one of the four tapes that come in that box, so maybe it's on KZbin somewhere.

Or rather, instead of keeping your opinions to yourself, perhaps you could, you know, NOT WATCH a video that is all about GK. It makes sense, no?

@ERdept1 I have limited stations to listen too and he sucks two of the good ones away 8 hours a weekend on both channels. The classical staion pipes him in as well. PRI should allow people a choice.

that is the oldest reply there is.... people love to hate things. learn a new 'cliche"
@Imperium5612 жыл бұрын
AugustusLarch, how about instead of watching a video that is to do with someone you so clearly hate, perhaps you could use a bit of common sense and keep your opinions to yourself. Fascist you may be, but you have no need to spam anti-GK comments on a PHC video. And don't even think about calling me either left-wing or a typical PHC listener. I'm not American. I don't listen to PHC, I only listen to the News from Lake Wobegon to try and get me to sleep. But you do not have to keep on and on sir.
@AugustusLarch12 жыл бұрын
@ERdept1 Public radio doesn't have commercials. Kellior has them under a spell. They sure don't need to simulcast PHC on every public station. I like classical music and like to chill out at 17 hours on Saturdays during the winter and they break in even with re-runs of the show. It's a spell. Some one needs to stake this guy.

@musicbox193 Garrison Keilor sucks the entire dial away for most of the weekend for the people that think he is a self amazed fool. Not everyone looks foward to having to turn their radio dial around in vain searching for a spot without his smarmy self-satisfied voice. Beleiveing you are a genius is a far thing from actually being one.
@thomasromano89387 жыл бұрын
Who says Garrison Keillor thinks he's a genius? He just gets up there and talks, and to me, what comes out is very clever and witty. I don't know about genius, I just think he's very talented with words and a tremendous ability to tell a story.
@AugustusLarch12 жыл бұрын
There's nothing wrong with me. I pointing out that the show gets rammed down the throat of public radio listeners. They devote a huge block of time to this man every week. In addition to that funds are diverted frim all the other programming because Kellior has their spot. THere's been a lot of cutbacks for them to cater to the likes of Garrison Kellior. He should give other people a chance. I am not hating. I am culture jammming.

watching your scything video v. good, actually am really surprised you don't like the great GK, well he's off the radio now, and I really miss him, also Stewart McClean is off Vinyl cafe too due to ill health really miss them both and their storytelling no replacements...sigh.

Rammed down the throat of public radio listeners? Hardly. I'm a huge Prairie Home companion fan, but there's plenty of other NPR programming to be heard besides his show. I have always voluntarily enjoyed Garrison Keillor. Among so many other shows to choose from is This America Life, The World Cafe, and for many years, Car Talk, that is until one of the Magliozzi brothers died, not to mention all of the wonderful music.

AugustusLarch he paid his dues and paved the way for thousands to peruse there dreams of preforming. Don't be a hater of someone who worked hard to get where he is today. Instead of bitching about him...work to get your own show and out preform him you. Jackass!
