They're adamant the physics are simulation, and there's a possibility that there was something wrong with my game, such as a bug that didn't fully disable all of the assists. If it was a bug, they haven't been able to replicate it in the release version of the game, so a follow up video on the physics may be in order... Aim inbetween. Modern WRC gravel grip, or 2000's with the active diffs might be a lot in comparison to default RBR sliding on ice. However, judging by IRL footage, these cars can grip laterally pretty well, BUT ground irl gives in, hence the wall of the tire does more work. Gravel in RBR feels pretty same-y, except the shape and contour of the road itself, but that is another matter. Both games have similar issues, but devs decided to approach it from different angles. Not until a game calculates physics on the fly at least like LFS or more appropriately - BeamNG (rip CPU), and the road surface is meticulously handmade with potholes of different materials, softness, weather effects etc. to mimic real roads, will we get something like a realistic rally simulation. In the end it depends on what you want from the game. I would buy WRC for the F2 cars, but since I don't like the way physics work, I am completely content with a 24 year old Rally Championship 2000. Same cars, long tracks and the physics are also whack. But the atmosphere is there, even more intimate and focused compared to WRC which has everything but in bite size shunks, spread out thin.

i mean for the marketing to so aggressively tout the simulated detail in the game, yes I do indeed expect a high-fidelity and generalist model under the hood. In the end, it's a game that's almost all about driving. Not saying that they couldn't make a game that had more to it than just a great model under the hood, but that isn't the game we're looking at, these games are about pure driving. If I was looking at a game that had you building a project car, showing up to the rally, navigating between stages, co-driving for your friends and doing recce runs together, getting room and board with your team, and gameplay around repairs and mechanical upkeep, for instance, then I would quite forgive an overly simplistic handling model

I love DR2.0 because it's such an awesome rally experience too! So I expect I will love this game even more. Racing games is about the fantasy of being a racing driver for me. A lot of people including a lot of viewers and commenters I see here. Don’t seem to understand that a full simulation rally game simply is not profitable. It’s too niche to make enough money for it to be worth it. Big companies like EA/and WRC for that matter at the end of the day need to hit a mark and make money. I’ve said before and I’ll say it again. A “next gen rbr” isn’t going to come from a major studio. But rather a product of passion. As any true rally simulation would be a money pit and likely have no licensing low end sounds. Less the great optimization etc. there’s trade offs that have to be made. Be happy we are getting anything at all.

@@TSRB Oh yeah for sure, RBR is falling on the other side of the horse a lot, I know the feeling of losing my engine after hitting an unnaturally hard bush. I just wish it would be somewhere between that and what I've seen in the videos so far, maybe some variety with more type of mechanical faults, a bit more detailed body/chassis damage etc. There could be like an extra difficulty setting to make it more punishing than this or something. Will definitely try out the game though!
@sw1tchu Жыл бұрын
@@rocksen9283 Ayo, I'm not saying that make the damage model exactly like RBR, but rather make a better damage model than RBR & DiRT to be punishing, but fair at low speeds. It's a 20 year old game at this point full of janky things. The reason I brought it up is because if I yeet my car at 100 km/h+ into a forest full of trees, or if I roll my car straight into a rock face, I shouldn't be able to continue most of the time imo
@rocksen9283 Жыл бұрын
@@sw1tchu I feel like the first Dirt game (and I mean the first Dirt, not Dirt Rally) had the best and in-depth damage model. You had at least 12 parts that could be damaged or get worn and it was punishing like you described. Australian stages would wear your radiator and water pump more, bumpier stages would wear the dampers more, it was awesome. I wish such an in-depth damage system would return. The closest we've got is RBR which can damage said components if the setup of your car is not done right, but the first Colin McRae Dirt was perfect

Interesting. The newest (coming) 2023/2024 rally game has a crowd, that is only standing there as you crash into the fence and wood column... oh and not to speak, the wooden column doesn't break, the fence is rock solid. This was not the case with the first and second (Colin Mcrae) DiRT games. They were more advanced in that regards. And that was 16 years ago for CM DiRT 1 (released 2007) and/or 14 years for (CM) DiRT 2 (released 2009). Oh and not to forget: when the car crashed into a tree in Colin Mcrae Rally 2005, leaves were falling down. Here in EA Sports WRC 2023, everything looks dead.

I mean, it's a branded sport game, of course it would've been, more like the F1 series, a simcade. I actually don't remember claims about the "quintessential rally sim" in official marketing. Looks more like a people expectation because it was worked by the same people responsible for "Dirt Rally" 1 and 2, forgetting they also made the Colin Mcrae Rally series (followed by the Dirt series) wich it was, in fact, much more arcade. Thus we should've expected an officially licensed CMR game, and I expected that. If the game delivers that, I'm more than happy.
