We are part of the custom van club that was hosting the show and come up to support fish. Hopefully 25 we will have a van there to. Was an awesome turnout. Lots of very cool stuff. That ford panel van at the end of the vid has its factory intech 4.0 in it not a Barra. Thats what makes it unique is that they kept the original engine and turboed it instead of swapping it out. It goes real good to even in a semi mild trim.

Hey Kiwi. The Kiwi's definitely get a better turnout than we do across here, very impressive car culture across the ditch. Yes, the GTR-XU1 got triple CD Stromberg carbs. Later LJs raced at Bathurst with Webers. LC GTRs ran the standard 161, LC XU1 ran the 186 with triples. LJ GTR had the standard 202, and the XU1 202 and triples. A little bit about the John Goss Special near the beginning, they were based on the XB GS spec car, as a tribute to John's win at Bathurst in '74. Curiously, in the only superseded XA model entered, none of the XBs finished that year. No, not going to have a crack at you over the VF/VG hardtop/Dart thing 🤣 I'm surprised you didn't get close to have a look at the XC panel van near the rocket car. Capris obviously didn't last as long across here, we really only got the old Mk1 with the Escort tail lights. Seems NZ got plenty of later ones, and yes, South Africa did have a 302 version of the Capri. Great video, lots to see and you covered it fabulously. Well done mate! ps: That van at the end only has the XG/XH SOHC in it, Barra is wider. 24:25 Fairlane Ghia 😉

There are a lot of cars we never got here in the States that I would love to have. Especially stuff from the 60s to 80s. Which is also my favorite era of American cars.

That was awesome! The old UTE (Chevrolet/Holden) looked like the back of any 39 Chevy sliced off and moved forward. Even the coupes had a side window at the back that would had to have been filled in. The odd thing was the split rear window. The US Chevys didn't have that. It looked more Ford-ish. I'm amazed at how many of the Australian-build cars had "mixed make" features. Or what looked like mixed make to me. The Holden Sandman looked like it had Ford Pinto tail lights. Some of the others looked like Dodge or Plymouth 'esque grilles, but were Ford or GM. I loved the Valiant Safari wagon that had the lights in the top of the fenders at the front. Were those some kind of running lights or turn signals? Would really be a cool add on to an American version. That would really make people ask questions. The Saker, I noticed later, the guy had the doors and engine cover open. I was trying to get you to scoot back over there, but you couldn't hear me...LOL Enjoy the rest of your visit and soak up as much sun as you can. You will probably be flying back into sure-nuff winter. The cold in sweeping down as far as Florida later this week. Have whoever is picking you up bring you a coat! Happy New Year.

@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Yes - and no. According to Wiki, they all came from the factory with a white interior contrasted by a black dashboard and carpet. The last of the Race/RT Chargers with the triple Webers, was the E49 option. They developed an advertised 302 HP, from 265 cubes, & to drive one of these on the street took bolls of steel as they were a handful. No power steer, no power brakes, a cam that would do justice to many a drag motor & when they 'come on the cam' they will throw you back into the seat in a very scary way. The E49 option with the track pack option was never meant to be a road car, but they were legal to register & drive. They were really meant to be operated on a race track at full throttle. The street version used the E48 option engine. Still a triple Weber carb engine, & with the four speed, it was streetable, just, but still well capable of giving one a really big fright when you punch it, if one is not careful. The interesting thing is that the basic engine started as a Chrysler USA design as a truck engine that, for whatever reason, was abandoned in the early development stage. Aussie Chrysler engineers stumbled across it one day when visiting & said, Yeeeeah, we think we can do something with that. They certainly did.

Good info sir. I always thought that engine was completely Aussie designed and built .....🤔🤔

@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Well, in the end, it pretty well was. For me, the only tragedy was calling it a Hemi. There is no way that an engine with a single rocker shaft, & all the ports feeding into or out of the head from the same side, could ever be efficiently be produced with a Hemispherical combustion chamber. It was a marketing ploy & it probably worked to sell some cars I guess, but in no way was it a real Hemi. It ran pretty good none the less.

@@KB10GL it's more like the gen2 Hemi 426. A semi Hemi in truth...
@KB10GL5 күн бұрын
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Sorry, but it's nothing like the 426 Hemi. The Gen 2, like its predecessor, was a double rocker shaft, cross flow, fully machined combustion chamber design. The 215/245/265 six had none of those design elements, not even one. If anything, it would be closer to the Poly, but not too close. The combustion chamber, like so many of its contemporaries was cast, not fully machined like a real Hemi, & yes, I have a real Hemi, a 1957 Dodge 325 Hemi engine for my old '33 Dodge. Very few of these in Oz. I love the 265 six, I just dislike the name they gave it as it is a barefaced outright lie.

The Torana GTR XU-1 had triple carbs from the factory - but if memory serves, they used S.U.s, (maybe Strombergs) whereas the Valiants had triple DCOE Webers. That said, so many were later fitted with Webers that they're probably more common than the S.U. variety these days.

@dionrau5580, I have two questions for you. 1. Why is the steering wheel 'allegedly' on the wrong side? Why did the US change from right drive, & the left side of the road after about 1910, when they had operated carts, wagons, horses & early cars on the correct side of the road for over 400 years? On stage coaches, the driver rode on the right, & the guard [shotgun[ rode on the left as did all horsed drawn vehicles, including the covered wagons of the old west. Technically Kiwi , the Falcon made it past that late sixties shape (like yours) in America,.as there is that early seventies Torino shape that was badged as a Falcon ( like a base model Torino I think ) . That 1971 Valiant coupe that said Pacer 440 on the number plate actually has a 1969 VF Valiant grille and headlights. And Speaking of Holden one tonners , reminds me that in the early eighties in Auckland they were used as accident tow trucks, and some had like big block Chev engines ( and big mags and tyres )with a big supercharger ( I saw them in NZ HOT ROD magazine) , supposedly to get to the accident scene before their rivals. I think they did the same in Australia. Different / better times .

You're right about part of that car being wrong. The VG was built through '70 and '71 so there's no way there should be a VF grille on a '71. Should also have rectangle headlights. (My first car was a VG Pacer hardtop, back in '86, and I remember some of the details very well. Still wish I'd never sold it on, but when you're young, you do things that a re stupid in hindsight.) Incidentally, the "Pacer 440" sticker isn't from Valiant - although in the US you could get one from the factory with a 440 wedge engine, so that's likely what he's done. There might be "440" as a trim number on the under-bonnet tag, but it wouldn't be shown on the external bodywork. And all big block Darts in the US were limited production runs, specifically for racing purposes - so they were sold new without a warranty.

When I mentioned it , they reckoned that's just what you have to put up with when shipping a car .😡

Here in Australia some people do restore various cars to concourse level. Some people build replicas of the real high performance, limited production muscle cars. Some people build custom versions of whichever vehicle they have a particular enthusiasm for. There are many hot rods and yes, some people build rat rods or rat bikes. It appears the New Zealand car enthusiasts do similar things to us here in Australia.

Trevor, did New Zealand and Australia get the same cars? Were cars like the Holden completely built from scratch, or were they shipped to the islands?

@@outlawbillionairez9780 not sure if NZ had assembly plants, or whether Ford (Aust), Holden, Chrysler (Aust) or others (?) just shipped complete cars to NZ.
