I’m old enough to remember when federal and state mandates along with consumer disinterest nearly caused the hot rod industry to tank. Fortunately, you folks down under helped keep it alive. How do I know this, a longshoreman friend who was loading ships bound for Australia with many containers full of speed parts, Edelbrock, Holly, Hooker Headers and on. Thanks for helping keep the hobby alive.
@Mercmad11 күн бұрын
Australia's hobby ,any of it to do with cars,was almost forced into extinction and most of the nations after market industry was wiped out . Some big like Lynx or small mag wheel makers disappeared . All because companies like Ford and GM claimed that they couldn't sell enough new cars because the old cars were being kept running for too long . There were legislation bought in to stifle our enjoyment and registration of cars .

Those Pullman front seats were available in Nashes and Ramblers from the mid 30’s up until the late 60’s. I remember the print ads in magazines showing a wholesome family scene of mom, dad and a child bedding down for the night, all dressed in pajamas, buttoned right up to the neck. I’m sure that scenario never actually happened.

Great video cuzzie. That's a massive turnout, compared to what we get on the main island. 3:05 I was trying to get a better look at the 240/260C in the background 😂Old mate's 61 Dodge, might have been assembled in Adelaide from a Canadian CKD. Might have been fully built up from Canada too. Nothing real clear on those then. 🤔 To clarify on the HR Holdens, they had 161, 186 and 186X2 (Twin single barrel Stromberg carbs) and very late in the model, they were available with the 186S (2 barrel) and 4 Opel speed box was available. Old mate loves and knows his EH well. As you were talking about luxury comparison, you could say the EH Prem might have made a prospective Rover or Super Snipe buyer think twice. Thanks for sharing this with us Kiwi. I'm sure your friends Stateside would have got a bit out of the old Holdens. 👍 Have yourself a great Christmas, with your Kiwi family. 🎄🎊🎈🥃

@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 It was more that you hadn't specified which gallon 😉 In case anyone was wondering, the USA still uses the Queen Anne Wine Gallon. Whereas the British were thinking decimal in 1824, and found that if they changed the Ale Gallon slightly, and made 20 fluid ounces to a pint (rather than 16 as God intended) then a gallon of water would weigh 10 pounds, and a fluid ounce would weigh an ounce!

The laid back seat is a "camping body conversion" They were very popular back in the later 1950's through till bucket seats with mandated head rests became widely adopted in new cars, many of which could have the back section wound back to a semi reclining position, allowing a semi restful sleeping position. Camping body conversions were cool.

That wee Bond Equipe was for sale about this time of year three years ago, down Paeroa way. Being the Triumph nut that I am, I was going to go and get it, because I had the readies, they are a pretty rare car and it was in bloody good nick being a pretty low milage example.....and the looks grow on you if you stare at it long enough and from different angles! Being based on the Vitesse chassis and driveline, I was already familiar with most of it and being one of the last of them made and a good, straight example and with the rare overdrive unit, I thought it would be a great stablemate for the 2500S and the Stag and take over the Daily Driver duties for a while so I could finally take the Stag off the road for some bodywork. However, I made the mistake of mentioning the car on the Triumph car club chat and one of them beat me to it. I was surprised there weren't more cars there actually, because the place often gets to the point where she's chocka and they have to start waiting for people to leave before more are allowed in! There will usually be a lot of Holden blokes turning up and a lot of Americana - from patina-look to survivors to restored to modified - and there will always be the British Fords - Cortinas, Anglias, Escorts, Capris etc - but the Aussie Fords are rare to see, sadly. You'll often see Aussie Chrysler before you see Aussie Ford and I'm surprised none of the local Chargers or Rangers or Regals were seen on this occasion. Then again, it was the last weekend before Christmas and there was a heck of a lot of traffic moving north and south on the motorway over the weekend, so you probably only got to see the show regulars. Cars and Coffee on a Sunday morning happens every month, but its location has changed from time to time over the past 5 years. Other cities have picked up the theme, so chances are there will be others you will be able to catch up with while you're here if you are planning to move around. Hampton Downs does a Caffeine and Gasoline on the last Sunday of the month and its not unusual to see cars on the track either during or after the show. A great day out by all accounts - as the one at Epsom is too. All the best for a Merry Christmas down here in the sun (if we're lucky!)
