I also used to be a terrible person and I genuinely can see similarities between my younger self and Elliot, making me aware of my own shortcomings. When my best friend recently left me, after she used to be my everything, I really struggled and these videos have genuinely helped me to grow as a person. LITERALLY wound up explaining this Christmas special to my family this year. I had to go through and express first how Elliot was "doomed" by his narrative, and then how psyched the fandom (is this a fandom? I feel like a fandom at this point :D) at the reveal of alternate timeline shenanigans.
