A couple of movies before this, Shane Black also wrote and directed Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer. 20:29 - 20:31 Fun fact: The part where Gosling throws the pistol at Crowe and Crowe misses is actually a humorous nod to a very similar scene in L.A. Confidential. However, in L.A. The blocking of the characters especially with Crowe on the ground against the wall as well as the pistol being thrown to Crowe by a partner who is standing is an unmistakable nod to the earlier L.A. This movie is criminally underrated. It is easily one of the funniest, most well written movies in the last decade and definitely the best buddy type movie. The writer and director, Shane Black, has written and/or directed and/or had roles in a few of the best films ever made and is one of the top talents in Hollywood. The reason this film reminds you of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is because Shane Black also wrote and directed that. That movie is also underrated and, like The Nice Guys, should be in many more conversations about the best comedy movies of all time and best buddy movies. I can't decide which film I like better, but I think it might be The Nice Guys by a bit because Angourie Rice tips the scales. I new the minute I saw The Nice Guys it was clear that she was a major talent (with the chops to hold her own and be funny in her own right in a comedy with two A-list actors - something very not easy to pull off) and hopefully has a very bright acting future in front of her. Anyway, nice reaction.
