“The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not.”
About the Book: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
“In The Night Circus, two star-crossed magicians engage in a deadly game of cunning in the spellbinding novel that captured the world's imagination. Part love story, part fable, The Night Circus defies both genres and expectations.”
A note from me: This is a wonderfully magical book, and one that I would recommend to people who like lyrical prose, phantasmagorical settings, and highly descriptive worldbuilding!

"The circus arrives without warning" "You are no longer quite certain which side of the fence is the dream" I started crying so hard, we finished walking away of it, as we were in the circus by reading it. As what Friedrick said, we can dream back to the circus by reading about it...

@@yyuns3o As you said, it is an opinion, and we all have one. Like many, my first experience with Alice in Wonderland was the 1951 Walt Disney animated movie. The Tim Burton interpretation is unusual as it deals much with the backstory of certain characters, namely the Mad Hatter. It was an interesting take on the story, but did it ruin it? I don't think so. It's entertainment!

I don't really know what I expected from this book when I read it several years ago. I enjoyed it, but I can't really remember what happened. I do recall that it didn't have as much of a plot as I wanted it to, and it came across as more of "unique slice of life with an air of mystery." I wasn't disappointed, just the story path took odd turns, which is strangely fitting for everything that it was.

*And the girl who had never seen a carnival before was suddenly met with one appearing in the woods where she'd been told explicitly by her mother and father not to go, yet as she approached closer, she could smell the popcorn and cotton candy from all the way away, in her blind bliss, she decided to go to the carnival and see what lay in wait inside, upon entering she saw an empty showroom with two lions staring at her like the hungry predators they were, when suddenly, a Crack of a whip made the lions stand at attention & a minute later, a man appeared dressed in a red and black outfit and asked the girl "what is your name, sweetheart?" The girl was taken aback but responded "Clarissa, I didn't know there was a circus here-" the man then shushed her and said "Don't say another word, I'll show you the best circus act in the world~" he then cracked his whip again and the lions stood up on two feet like trained dogs and in came 3 more people, stuntmen and some clowns, one set down a bucket of popcorn and another, a stick of Cotton Candy, the show then began the lions did tricks and the acrobats did confounding tricks and twists all while circus music played after about 4 hours, the girl said "I need to leave" and got up to leave the tent when to her dismay, a 3rd lion stood guard over the door and the lion tamer said "You don't know do you? Once you enter the carnival of wonders, you may never leave!"*

where have I heard the first song before? definitely some old ad for a movie but im trying to remember edit: its from the prologue to beauty and the beast adn its a really good song and the scene is so good with the narrator but but but while re-watching the prologue for myself I found a bit of a shock in the movie Lumiere the candle stick says that the prince has been a beast for 10 years, and in the prologue it says the petals on the rose will run out on his 21st year and yeah I looked it up to confirm it wasn't just continuity, the beast was eleven when the enchantress cursed him the true villain was her all along, showing up just looking to curse someone, an eleven year old boy answers the door and says he doesn't want to let a stranger stay WHICH IS FAIR because she showed up to his door and started saying riddles also he's eleven even if the reason he wouldn't let you stay was because you were ugly how are you gonna be so mad about the opinion of an eleven year old, that you to curse them to not only be a beast if he doesn't fall romantically in love with someone who loves also has to romantically love him back, but you curse every body else working at the castle to turn into furniture, including the children, (unless the teapots kid was magically reproduced) to also die and fade back to plain furniture when the timer runs out NOT ONLY THAT but then you curse to castle to be shrouded in a mist that makes everyone forget it existed which means that if they beast leaves the castle to try and find a lover, he will likely be hunted down! and the state of all the castle workers means that they cant leave either she curses an eleven year old with only one way to take it back, with a time limit, she gave him almost no way to complete the task she set out, she essentially gave all of the castle dwellers a death sentence, and then she just bums out of there to wherever else she lives because she didn't even need to do this in the first place, because with strong enough magic to make everybody who ever been there forget about the castle she could have just made herself a fucking house in the woods.

Well, the narrator said it would bloom until his 21st year, not until his 21st birthday or 21 years old, so I always interpreted it as this 21st year under the curse. And then there’s the stain glass images, while the narrator explains the curse, and the painting Belle finds in the west wing, both depicting what looks like a grown man. And then If the prince was just 11 and the curse was only going to last 10 years, I wonder where Chip came from? He was obviously younger than 10. So it seems more logical the curse just froze everyone in time. Makes way more sense to me if you just watch the first movie. Go into the sequels and it seems they retconned it so the prince was a kid of 11, and aged to 21 by the time of the first movie. But I still don’t know where Chip came from, who’s shown at the end of the movie as a young, maybe 5 year old boy, and it doesn’t explain why the prince is an adult in the stained glass scenes or and adult in the painting he destroyed in the west wing. So I think the sequels just opened up plot holes. But everything you said about the enchantress being the true villain? Oh, yeah, she totally was. You’re completely right.

@@LostInThought4ever but if it was 21st year instead of his 21st birthday then, taking into account what Lumiere said, the end of the movie would make no sense. at the end of the movie beast is running out of time and there's a scene where the last petal falls, which means the end of his time limit. I did look into it, it seems like even the writers for this movie decided to agree he was eleven when the enchantress got to him, when you look up how old the beast is they do mention that the rose correlates with his age. so its commonly accepted that the 21st year means his birthday even if he wasn't, I'm going to decide for my own conscience, that he was eleven when it happened. because otherwise the age difference of the beast and belle is so bad because belle is 17 when the movies events happen if the beast is adult age (19-21) by the time the enchantress gets to him, and it is 21 years later instead of the 10 then that would mean the beast was 40 in the least and then suddenly the whole Stockholm syndrome thing comes into question.

@@jadawcken2066 I don’t remember Lumiere saying anything about the age or the curse. I’m basing everything on the original animated movie, so maybe Lumiere did the narration for the live action? I watched it once and really didn’t like it, so I can’t remember. But if the beast aged from 11 to 21, Chip would have been very near adulthood too if time hadn’t froze for them. But we see he’s still around 5, very very young. So magic freezing time, means no one ages, which means the beast’s age doesn’t change, so there isn’t a problem with the age gap because for beast, he’s still the same age mentally and physically. The rose is the only thing to age, so it was the only thing still affected by time. So time freezing for everyone in the castle and it being his 21st year just makes more sense to me. There’s just things that don’t add up otherwise, and I already mentioned those. But you can prefer the other theory if you want. It’s fine.

@@LostInThought4ever I actually mention in the original comment that Lumiere tells belle that the beast has been a cursed for 10 years, and I do remember this happening in the original animated movie ofc you're theory is a nice alternative answer for the one clip of that painting of him but still, if your theory is true the inhabitants of the castle and the beast are all still aging mentally and then the beast would still be mentally 40 years old. and the painting can be explained for an out of universe reason, the writers probably wanted to show what the beast looked like when he was human before the end of the movie, it was pretty common to do things like that in film back then. I honestly don't know what's up with chip, there's nothing really to explain his age, when you look it up they say he's seven but honestly I don't think they ever mention his age in the movie so there's no way to know that. i think honestly you could say he was any age, like if he was a baby when the curse was placed. or you could blame it on the writers not putting that much thought into the timeline because honestly both explanations make a little sense and both have plot holes the beast being 11 just has more support generally, like Lumiere is more of a main character in comparison to chip and he's the one who says its been 10 years

@@jadawcken2066 I know you mentioned it in the original comment, I said I didn’t remember Lumiere saying it, but now I do remember the line in the Be Our Guest song. So, yeah, he mentioned 10 years. But it is one line in a song which could be argued to have been written purely in an artistic sense. One plot hole for my theory, but as far as I know, the only one. So I prefer the theory that has one plot hole, to one that has three. And as for my theory on them being frozen in time, I did say they were frozen physically and mentally, so they would truly still be who they were when the spell was cast. So the age isn’t weird. And that’s why the spell was broken, because Belle caused Beast to think differently. It broke the spell they were “frozen” in and time “unfroze” so they could live again. Then there’s Chip again. If he is seven, then how did he come into existence three years into the curse where everyone is a household object and so can’t reproduce? If they all are frozen in time, then him being seven from the beginning and still being seven physically and mentally makes perfect sense. But this is a cartoon, so there are problems with it. I think my theory has more weight to it, and you prefer yours. So all is good.
