The way the game engine works, the game will use a low-poly model when you're far away, and load the higher poly model with textures when you get close enough to notice. So those oil field assets are not gonna have a big impact on performance.
@ARRW4
@ARRW4 Жыл бұрын
So cdpr devs just put already available tower/pump models there because low poly LODs would be loaded anyways

Exactly, LOD's are used in all modern games except recently in city skyline 2 where they forgot to add lods the character models teeths resulting in terrible performance lmao

Just some details regarding couple of things - roads show on the minimap simply because they are all built using road tool inside the engine/editor as that allowed for automatic terrain carving and spline editting etc... and it's automatically picked up by minimap generator - all the debree is either part of the terain material itslef, or dynamically and automatically spawned when the game detects given material type... honestly quite a lot of stuff in the game is procedurally generated/placed - regarding the high-polygonal meshes or meshes with collision, it's simple... it's one prefab that has been placed multiple times and was/is probably accessible or even partially re-used somewhere else in the game... and also the engine generates proxies for any and all models placed in the scene that replace this high definition version and are much less performance heavy and don't have any collision, you can see this stuff switching for example on the terain where you see the chunks disapearing for a second etc... - from what I can tell the oil fields were mostly supposed to be just a background decoration, at least in the current itteration of night city (2018+) not even any left-over content, only known content is the one side-quest that is still in the game.

I think the detail in the oil field was put in as a placeholder for future development, much like Dogtown was random buildings before Phantom Liberty. CDPR had probably planned on putting out a number of expansions over time, but between the huge issues in getting the game functional, and the decision to switch to Unreal, those plans got shut down. Now we just have "what ifs" and "maybes"

Several incorrect takes in this video. If the region was supposed to be playable that was scrubbed early in development . The ground is just one texture. That use of only one texture is a sign it was never intended to be a playable area. Otherwise there would have been more art passes. The terrain generation quickly generates the carved/erosion appearance, the generic ground texture further proof it wasn't supposed to be playable. One repeating static model has virtually no impact on game performance as its already loaded into memory. They should put River's community up in that area.
@CaptDust
@CaptDust Жыл бұрын
I think CDPR artists built the map and then the game design team decided what areas to use and highlight. There's so many empty areas that COULD have evolved to game playable areas - if the story called for it. And if quest designers don't want to use it, well it's still good set dressing. Also I think the artists are creating one asset and then copying to many locations, that is why collision usually works and it feels more "complete" than a facade or textured plane

In the cyberpunk red role-playing game, it was said that the body of johnny's girlfriend could be in a cave near the oil platform. At least an easter egg or reference to the past would not be bad, because each period of the cyberpunk game contains a lot of topics and stories, so it takes a while to get used to it.

I like that Thumbnail, that oilrig reminds me of how unused the Ocean and the Rivers are. Except the Lake were you dive through that flooded town. Oilfields, Biotechnica Flats, Arasaka Waterfront, the northern part of NC in general, the ocean and rivers, a couple hundred vendors that you cant interact with. There is so much stuff still unused. The game has still way more potential, especially when it comes down to activities, lets hope the sequell will fix these problems.

@@chrispekel5709 Didnt know how what to call it so I just called it a problem, I mean its not a problem but instead just lost potential. There should be a lot more going on in those areas tho, would've loved to have a diving mission for some lost cargo in bay area of NC because with all that air traffic I could expect something to drop at some point. The oilfields could've been a good place for gangs to get rid of their "victims", and with those 100 or probably 200+ protein farms I could expect atleast one mission in one of those.

3:24 They're instances of the models that comes prepackaged with the collision and LOD (level of detail) mesh etc. They function because they're elements that are set up to be 'drag dropped' into the gameworld where ever one is needed. No extra work is necessary to have them appear like that as they're equal in function to the same model being used elsewhere on the map. With 'prefab' models like that all you have to tell the engine is that a 'modelPackage_X' is to be located at these coordinates with such orientation and it works. The same way you can spawn in a car anywhere on the map the engine can be set to spawn in anything. Like you replaced the model in each of those files with V's megabuilding and you'd have a forest of megabuildings standing there instead.

First of all, great series! Gonna question/correct a few miscoceptions tho. What you talking about this game running poorly? It can literally scale all the way down to a Steamdeck. 🤷‍♂️. Turn your settings down a bit or something. Lol Also. Even though they're full models with collisions, those arent loaded/rendered when youre far away. Theyre ultra low poly until you get closer and then they get replaced before you get too close to notice that they got swapped.

I'm definitely not a game developer, but I know some games use an otherwise unreachable area for cutscenes or special missions (an example off the top of my head, the St Francis Veterans Center in Far Cry 5 is used for both, but otherwise inaccessible during normal play). I can't think of any scenes that use these areas in Cyberpunk 2077, but perhaps that was the intent.

Most likely those models are not even loaded in when you're in the playable area or at least most of the playable area because it probably utilizes LODs and probably completely skips rendering them when not in range. Meaning this is not the reason why "the game runs like piss" but it might be a contributor to very small portion of why the game is so large (Little things like that eventually add up) The game is just poorly optimized and has a lot of caching and loading problems. That's actually why you would see low poly faces on characters when you just load into an area. Possibly because you were driving too fast and the game engine couldn't keep up.
