Liner notes:
"'Homeroad' is the last leg of a journey that began in times that we once thought would never end.
The road is much longer is exactly the way things appeared back in 1979. In the mid-seventies, many in South Africa knew that freedom was just around the corner. But the iron fist of the State clamped down harder and more savagely than ever before, so by the early eighties the road indeed seemed much longer. Roger Lucey's first album, 'The Road is Much Longer', spoke of these troubled times in a voice that had the State reacting with swift fury. The album was banned and Lucey's career was terminated in a concerted and covert mission by the Security Police.
While the history of this harsh but blessed land played itself out in many of the most extraordinary stories of our time, Roger Lucey watched the changes from an often unique and privileged positon. First, as a cameraman/producer for a large international news agency, and later as a playwright, actor, and television presenter and producer. After many years he returned to music and now performs regularly with his group and as a soloist.
In this tenth year, since South Africa's first democratic election, comes 'Homeroad'.
Roger Lucey is back, stronger than ever, with songs that reflect clearly and powerfully, not only a country in transition, but his personal journey through these momentuous times. It's an album that speaks with the same strength as his first recording 25 years ago and while the road may still be much longer, it's a road that is leading, inevitably, to our new Homeland."
