The Night Jordan-Pippen-Rodman Taught a Life Lesson to a Young NBA Team

Dennis Rodman's going toe-to-toe with the towering 7-foot-7 Gheorghe Muresan, and you bet it's an eye-full. Jordan's not slacking either, flipping the script with a killer 4th-quarter rally. And Pippen? Well, he's just being Pippen - swooping in when it counts and saving the day. And our buddies from Washington? They're getting a front-row seat to a Bulls masterclass, picking up some serious life lessons along the way.

95-98, I was a Bulls fanatic, Rodman being my favorite. I never missed a game in those days. TNT, TBS, NBC and all the NY and NJ channels. Any Bulls games from that period I missed, I paid to see later. Just so entertaining to watch. My Grandfather and I would meet up and discuss the games the next day. Then the Bulls broke up, my Grandfather died and I never watched a game again. Destroyed my love of the game.

I'm a major Jordan fan, but there's an error here. At 13:07 TNT says MJ averaged 42 PPG / 7.5 RPG shooting 57% for the series. It even says he's the oldest player to ever average over 40 in a playoff series. But I remember this series, and I remember Jordan goin for 29 in game 1, 55 in game 2, and 28 in game 3 averaging 37.3 for the series. I'm normally the last person to ever discredit anything Jordan did, but after doing my research, he did average 37.3/5.7/5.3 And he did shoot 57%, also going 15/15 from the line. I wonder why TNT would make a mistake like that, and even include the fact that he's the oldest player ever to average over 40 in a playoff series when he actually averaged 37.3 for the series. I was hoping I was wrong cuz averaging 42 PPG for the series sounds better than 37.3 but if someone wants to correct me, please do

It's simple. When they made the statement, game 3 was still in progress. The commentators had no idea what Jordan would score at the end of the game. They could only go off the average of the first two games. That's how they got 42 pts.

No, it was not. Strickland was just that good as a point guard. Webber, Howard and Muresan always had priority. It took Chris Whitney a few years to really get his bearings in the league as a point guard. The drop off in 1997 was noticeable. The refs did Webber dirty.

Finally completed this feature. “Life lesson” is a bit overboard. Court lesson maybe, but not life. Chicago went all the way to the Title, the franchise’s fifth and second of the second three-peat. Washington returned to the Playoffs nine years after this series. Within that span, they traded the young core, gained national attention because of MJ’s second and last comeback, then the signing of Gilbert Arenas and his immediate stardom. Fast forward upon this comment, Chicago are Playoff contenders while Washington is back in the doldrums (er, rebuilding mode).
