Aside from the magnificent and true voice... this is a really interesting song. If you didn't have CC enabled, turn on captioning, listen again, and enjoy the lyrics along with the delivery. The pianist is very good too... and works so well with the vocals as to be almost invisible.

I've noticed another version of this by Leonid Kharitonov, in black and white, from the same year, 1974 on this channel and although he looks magnificent in colour and sings wonderfully, I actually think the black and white film is more atmospheric because Leonid really looks like he can see the ghostly spectacle passing before his eyes!

Трубач должен "будить могучую конницу". А в данном случае он "будит" тоже могучую, но "пехоту". Почему? Барабанщик её уже разбудил....Впрочем, по зауку трубы проснулись те, кто надо - гусары с кирасирами и прочие "эскадроны"... А пехота - уже на подходе, зачем её вторично будить? ...Странное заблуждение...Учите матчасть. Василий Андреевич Вам в помощь.
