I really hope this thing does go boom. we keep hearing about it since Jan. it better be something huge because if it's not, most people will again be disenchanted with astronomy and that's sad

I'm starting to get worried that it might happen when we lose it to the Sun this Fall for a few months. Of course it might go "boom' right after I leave this comment!

Do you think that there is any perseids in The Weekend before The Peak?
@Krafts578
@Krafts578 3 ай бұрын
You will be able to see them, but not as many until the peak viewing time next weekend.

Can you produce a Southern Hemisphere version, separately?
@LateNightAstronomy
@LateNightAstronomy Ай бұрын
Sadly, I don't have the time to produce that type of video or knowledge of the southern hemisphere to do that effectivly. I do try to mention news worthy events that occur in both hemispheres each month though! Thanks for the suggestion and clear skies!

Wait so are the perseids peaking on the night of the 11th? Or the night of the 12th? I've been hearing both.
@LateNightAstronomy
@LateNightAstronomy 2 ай бұрын
The Persiads peak over two to three nights. I'm reading that the peak will occur on the night of the 11th into the early morning of the 12th.

why are we talking about an 80 year re-occurance happening anytime now in 2024 when 80 years would be 2026 (last confirmed nova tcrb 1866, 1946 ... so 2026 would be a much closer target)
@LateNightAstronomy

I thought the same thing when I first heard about it. Apparently the average is "about 80 years"

@rubix2007
@rubix2007 2 ай бұрын
right, but 80 years puts tcrb at 2026 from the last in 1946. Im not sure why we are putting this in 2024. Since when does 'the bears images' match the actual year we are on. Careful with your hopes and expectations for right now.
