Head injuries can severely affect ones thought process, especially when the part of the brain that is most affected is the frontal lobe. I was a year old when this happened and the night he was caught was about a mile from the house I still live in. My dad nailed our windows shut and we all slept in the living room together so he could protect us. He was never a gun person and said if he had a gun he wouldn't feel safe, so he cut one of my softball bats in half and nailed a bunch of big nails into the top of the bat, which was something he was much more familiar with. Still gives me the creeps to think about how close this all this was to us.
@Danheron25 ай бұрын
Lol not to diss or attack your father, but that is an incredibly shambolic defense “im going to nail the windows shut but presumably leave, the doors untouched, i’m going to gather my entire family into one small space against a man with a gun, and instead of buying a gun myself, I’m going to take a short baseball bat and shorten it further, turning it into a weird post-apocalyptic bludgeon, rather just using a hatchet or hammer or normal bat or knife, or any other close range weapon” I presume your father was not a violent man and he was scared so he probably didn’t really know what to do but why not just buy a guard dog 😂

In my psychology class, we talked a lot about the parts of the brain and brain chemicals. We also talked about things that can alter the brain and how it functions. My teacher liked true crime, so she talked a lot about sociopaths and psychopaths and the differences and even showed brain scans and things. A study was done on murderers with psychopathic tendencies and did brain scans on them and many of them had tumors or brain damage in their frontal lobe, which (if I am remembering right, correct me if I'm wrong) is the part of the brain used for decision making and emotional responses. Many of the murderers who have displayed these tendencies suddenly were likely affected by a brain injury in that area or a tumor was growing there. However, this isn't ALWAYS the case, but some of them are the way they are because of this damage. Just thought I should share since its interesting

Richard Ramirez used to sleep in a cemetery in his hometown of El Paso, TX. My aunt went to Jefferson High School with him. He apparently was usually pretty quiet and liked to stand against one of the walls of the high school and just stare in silence. I think, if I remember what my relatives told me correctly, he even invited some girls on dates to the cemetery. (I don't think they joined him but he asked them.) The cemetery he hung out at is called the Concordia Cemetery and it is VERY haunted. The cemetery itself has been featured on television shows and in books featuring America's most haunted places.

Becca A when I was a baby my mom told me this story of a 80-something year old man that lived across the street who had severe dementia. He somehow made it across the street dispute not being able to walk well and began getting off with his pants down right outside their window while my mom was home alone making dinner. He kept knocking on the window trying to get her attention but she kept facing away while on the phone with paramedics to get him home.

Having had two known incidences of peeping Toms ( one when I was 13, the other when I was 27) I completely agree with you. When I was 13 I started putting a blanket over my curtains because there was upper and lower curtains and this 3 inch gap in between. My mom kept pulling it down and griping at me that it was “unsightly” to have blankets hanging up. I tried explaining about the peeper and even though my brother backed me up ( I called him when I saw the guy outside my window and he saw the guy running off) , my mom said that was no excuse for blankets being used as curtains. I took to changing only in the bathroom after that.

About the head injury theme, I remember when I took psychology, my teacher told the class a story about this man who suffered a head injury at his job (I believe a metal pole struck through his fontal lobe) and his personality changed since. There's a part of out brain that contains our personality traits and if something happens to it, it can cause a chance in character. Perhaps that's what happened with all these murderers.

So, I totally believe this. I used to be incredibly shy, I had immense anxiety, people would introduce me and preface it with “shes shy, so she won’t talk much” I had Lyme disease that actually effected my brain which caused it to swell, this in turn caused me to have a gran mal seizure- after that my personality completely changed. I stopped having anxiety. I stopped feeling shy and I now have this boisterous personality. I remember how it felt to feel so different and I didn’t make a decision to be different. And it was such a clear difference that people who knew me before linked it before I did, because I was so drastically different.
