No pushing No holding No shoulder No Elbow No back of the head shots Pure slugfest. Pure class. 💪👌✊ Lucky were those who witnessed this incredible brawl live in arena. 😊 These two fights remind me the dual between Vernon Forest & Sugar Shane Mosley. Vernon was quite unkonwn while Mosley was the belt holder. He provided that golden opportunity to Vernon but sadly lost the belt. Vernon gave Mosley a chance to vengeance but Mosley again lost. I still pity it. RIP Sanchez. Love from Pakistan ❤

Sanchez had it all. And by age 23 he had defeated all the best fighters of his era including Puerto Rico’s greatest ever fighter Wilfredo Gomez. In those days no self-respecting champion refused to fight the top competitors, unlike the “Mexican face of boxing” today. Chavez was only about three years younger than Sanchez. It’s a pity that Sanchez died so young so that the two greatest Mexican boxers never faced each other.
@hynekd

It’s so sad reading infantile, veiled, insults like the one thrown at Canelo Alvarez in this post. Any comment that includes “in those days” was written by someone who lacks the ability to remember the past accurately. Just say Sanchez was a great fighter, no need to show your own ignorance by insulting others.
@C.STRIKER-yo7zg
@C.STRIKER-yo7zg 2 ай бұрын
I totally agree Mate. In the 70s and 80s fighters were of a different breed. Especially Mexican fighters. Those fighters didn’t have rehydration clauses, duck dangerous rivals, have the luxury of picking and choosing from the bottom of the barrel opponents they knew they could beat, and most importantly relinquish their hard earned title belt just to avoid a legitimate opponent who could possibly beat them. Canelo Alvarez is THE ONLY Mexican fighter in the history of the sport to voluntarily give up his title belt rather than face his mandatory which was a prime Gennady Golovkin. The version that destroyed David Lemeiux and had the entire middleweight division running for cover. He holds that disgraceful distinction. As for Salvador Sanchez, he was one for the Ages and a proper representation of what a champion was made of by any metric.

In the day one of the local cable stations from NYC carried fights from the stories Olympic Auditorium in LA and that's where I first saw Little Red, among other fighters like Art Hafey. Great days of boxing during the "war weeks."

@@JamesBlue-v4d That isn't what I saw. There was the build up to the first Lopez fight, then they showed how Sanchez kept active during the year in between their first and second fight. They then showed the second fight, which was even more impressive to me, as Lopez knew what to expect and still couldn't do anything about Sanchez's constant movement and punches. And Sanchez was a few inches from putting Lopez on his butt in the second fight. Then they showed what could have been an even more impressive fight when Sanchez defeated Wilfredo Gomez, the WBC champ, who was undefeated with 33 wins and 32 knockouts. And he beat him easily. So, for me, this was about more than one fight. The second Lopez fight was impressive, and the Gomez fight maybe more so.

Unbelievable how SS went 15 rounds without breathing thru his mouth, and still KO'd solid as a rock Azumah Nelson! That's what I call a G-O-A-T !

Sanchez combination of speed, reflex, balance and power were beyond sensational. What a boxing machine he was. For sure in a 'best ever' discussion. Danny Lopez though...My word. What a tough hombre. Very few (especially these days ;) could take the number of clean heavy shots Sanchez dished out those first five rounds and still stand up. I see he's still going strong at 72!

@leecarter123 Maybe, but I watched most of Sal Sanchez fights and had the privilege to watch him live on August 21, 1981, against Gomez at Cesar's Palace at Las Vegas. My younger brother's & I drove in my 1964 aircool bug. No ac to Nevada from SanDiego was awesome. This guy estinima was out of this world and never took a breath out of his mouth ,never looked tired. He was only 3 years older than me. Damm, time flies. You should see what Roy Jones Jr., Mike Tyson,Teddy Atlas, & many more boxing people had said about Sal Sanchez. Peace ✌️
