No pushing No holding No shoulder No Elbow No back of the head shots Pure slugfest. Pure class. 💪👌✊ Lucky were those who witnessed this incredible brawl live in arena. 😊 These two fights remind me the dual between Vernon Forest & Sugar Shane Mosley. Vernon was quite unkonwn while Mosley was the belt holder. He provided that golden opportunity to Vernon but sadly lost the belt. Vernon gave Mosley a chance to vengeance but Mosley again lost. I still pity it. RIP Sanchez. Love from Pakistan ❤

Good post. Both Forrest and Mosley also showed great respect for each other. No trash talking. Similar to Sanchez-Lopez, Mosley actually fought better in the rematch, but he just couldn't overcome Forrest's style. Vernon's timing of hitting Shane coming in was like no one had ever done before. Shame Vernon died so young. For clarity, Vernon wasn't truly unknown at their first fight, just an underdog. In fact, he had a win over Shane in the Olympic trials as an amateur.

Sanchez had it all. And by age 23 he had defeated all the best fighters of his era including Puerto Rico’s greatest ever fighter Wilfredo Gomez. In those days no self-respecting champion refused to fight the top competitors, unlike the “Mexican face of boxing” today. Chavez was only about three years younger than Sanchez. It’s a pity that Sanchez died so young so that the two greatest Mexican boxers never faced each other.

It’s so sad reading infantile, veiled, insults like the one thrown at Canelo Alvarez in this post. Any comment that includes “in those days” was written by someone who lacks the ability to remember the past accurately. Just say Sanchez was a great fighter, no need to show your own ignorance by insulting others.

I totally agree Mate. In the 70s and 80s fighters were of a different breed. Especially Mexican fighters. Those fighters didn’t have rehydration clauses, duck dangerous rivals, have the luxury of picking and choosing from the bottom of the barrel opponents they knew they could beat, and most importantly relinquish their hard earned title belt just to avoid a legitimate opponent who could possibly beat them. Canelo Alvarez is THE ONLY Mexican fighter in the history of the sport to voluntarily give up his title belt rather than face his mandatory which was a prime Gennady Golovkin. The version that destroyed David Lemeiux and had the entire middleweight division running for cover. He holds that disgraceful distinction. As for Salvador Sanchez, he was one for the Ages and a proper representation of what a champion was made of by any metric.

What strength from Danny Lopez. It's impressive how it can withstand too many hits. my respects

I was a big fan of Lopez, and it was pure torture to see him hit so hard and often, but the Boxer beat the Slugger. Hard to tell how far Sanchez would have gone. His next fight after the Lopez rematch was against the spoiler Azumah Nelson, then he passed away.

Unbelievable how SS went 15 rounds without breathing thru his mouth, and still KO'd solid as a rock Azumah Nelson! That's what I call a G-O-A-T !

I'll also add that sometimes when a guy dies early... the reality of what was to be can often pale in comparison to the mystery. In Sanchez's case though, we probably never saw the best of him. He was 23.

I give Lopez props for having a good chin and not quitting. Salvador was no joke. Gone too soon from us.

I saw this fight with 5 friends of mine on CBS Wide World of Sports. He put on a clinic, and everyone left out big Salvador Sanchez fans. Almost cried when I heard he died in a car crash

In the second fight Lopez finally adjusts to stop that vicious hidden-right hook/overhand From Sanchez. He preempts it with his left and throws off the timing.

Danny was a great fighter - known for getting knocked down early, but getting up and most often beatng his opponent. He had great heart, a relatively good chin, and lots of stamina and detrmination. Sanchez, was a generational boxer. Tremendous stamina, good defensive skills, a solid chin and very fast and acurate hands. He moved in and out and laterally with great skill. You did not want to throw hands with Sanchez. Sadly, God took Sanchez from us too soon. God, and the boxing public, loved both of these fighters. When I saw their fights together, I found myself cheering for both fighters.
