Bella Robertz: Max and Helen have been in love since they met. What I think we really have hoped and waited for is Max to stop running away from acknowledging openly that very love and give Helen a reason to open up and trust him as her companion. Max's near death experience--and Helen's embrace of him, willing him back to life--stripped away all of their defenses, dodges, diversions, hiding away, and denials. Now they KNOW that they love each other, deeply. There is no denying it now, and it is impossible to walk back. Helen's tender, near erotic embrace of him in the decon shower and Max's confession of love to Helen in the recovery room have ended ALL doubts forever. The only question now is, can Max follow-up his heartfelt confession to Helen with meaningful, sustained action? And will Helen trust her heart to a Max who has, in the past, been all too often dithering, wavering, and on more than one crucial occasion, cowardly with her love? But the entire New Amsterdam universe--one that stakes its very existence on Hope--pivot on Helen and Max; their love IS that very metaphor and reality of hope that drives New Amsterdam's narrative and meanings. So, in every sense, EVERYTHING in the New Amsterdam universe depends upon the love between Helen and Max--and its ultimate consecration ...consummation...and continuance. Those are the stakes.

“You were there, weren’t you?....I’m sorry. Sometimes it takes me a minute to remember... WHAT MATTERS MORE THAN ANYTHING: YOU.” There's NO walking it back -- Helen's "and stuff" as she held Max, near death, in his nakedness, under the cascading water of the decon shower, and willed him with her body and soul back to life -- and Max's raw, unadorned moment of Truth: confessing directly to Helen, at long last, as to just who and what she has been and will always be to him: "What matters more than anything: YOU." Endgame.

@renechateaubriand26453 жыл бұрын
@@sharonclay1311 : Oh, yes, I was beginning to have serious doubts 'bout my bruh, Max. I mean, the first pivotal moment--consider the now iconic snow storm episode, in which Max and Helen go to help a clairvoyant: when that Clairvoyant confronts Max with what she instantly intuits (that he's hopelessly in love with "his doctor,"Helen), how does Max try to keep his secret to himself and "his doctor," Helen? He tells Helen, and I quote him," I Love my doctor." Yeah. No wonder Helen looked at him as if to ask," WTF. I've fallen for a guy who thinks the best way to keep his deepest secret from me is to tell me EXACTLY what his deep secret is." Priceless Max moment. But Max truly got on my last nerve when he was confronted with needing to tell and show Helen just how he felt: instead of kissing her in that crucial moment, when they were eye to eye, nearly lips to lips, what did Max do?? He fumbled with the wedding ring of his late wife and froze...and then he ran away. WITHOUT explanation or even a word. I mean, MAX, really? REALLY? Finally, there's Max's first encounter with Helen's wicked smart niece, Mina, in which Max, googly eyed as ever over Helen, comes to impart his latest CRUSADE-of-THE-WEEK--meaning, of course, that Max (1) made up some junior high school-level drama-rama just to see Helen and (2) had this ready-to-go drama-rama to hide behind so he wouldn't have to muster the courage to tell or show Helen what she and the entire freakin' planet has known since Max's "I've-got-a-James-Bond-cunning-plan-to-keep-my-secret-from-you-by-telling-you-my-secret!" bit of high stoopid during the snowstorm. Naturally, Mina, not knowing Max from Max the Blue Meanie of the Beatles' Yellow Submarine, INSTANTLY...INSTANTLY... figured out that whoever Max was, he was absolutely besotted, down-for-the-count in love with her aunt Helen. How did Max respond when Mina NAILED him on his not-so-clever ruse? Max babbled and blubbered so idiotically that he made SpongeBob Squarepants and his dufus, dimwit pal Patrick the Starfish seem like Shakespeare and Toni Morrison by contrast. Max. Are you Freakin' KIDDING ME?? You're a brilliant doctor and you're reduced to Spongebob outtakes as your comeback? REALLY??? REALLY?? "SAD." So, yeah, it shocked me to the core that after Helen literally saved his sorry, befuddled azz (AGAIN), that Max did three things that we've ALL been telling him to do since he first he met Helen (i.e., about the same time he fell in love with her). 1. STFU...Max and LISTEN...REALLY LISTEN TO HELEN as though the rest of your life depends upon what she has been saying to you all along. 2. LOVE HER... COURAGEOUSLY. 3. Tell her. Show her... Max, THE core Truth that you need to say, at long last: that for Max, it's Helen and none other than Helen who "...MATTERS MORE THAN ANYTHING." So....Imagine the collective shock when Max finally, oh-my-GAWD finally... LISTENED... LOVED COURAGEOUSLY... and told Helen, face-to-face, with the simple but heartbreaking power of elemental Truth that Helen was, is, will always be EVERYTHING to him. EVERYTHING. THAT ...is...Endgame.

@@renechateaubriand2645 great rant 👏
@renechateaubriand26453 жыл бұрын
@@bloomblum : Je vous en remercie, Abbey. I DO love Max, but OMG, he has ...ummm...drilled down to the marrow of my patience at times. I didn't mind his absurdly ridiculous Freudian slips as to how much he loves Helen. Understandable. But that crucial scene in which instead of Manning the Effe Up, he froze up and fiddled with his ring and then literally ran away--RAN AWAY like a bunny rabbit without a single word of explanation-- just when Helen opened up her heart to him--"everything I do is for you"--oh, no. THAT was a major character Effe-up. ESPECIALLY after rushing over to Helen and nearly kissing her. That failure of nerve devastated Helen--and literally compelled her into the arms of Dr. Shin. So, our boi Max really needs to make that up to Helen. Big time. And as to his first real attempt at getting right with Helen-- with his junior high school drama-rama "oh-Helen-you'll-never-guess-what-happened-on-the-way-to-my-saving-the-world excuse to visit Helen in her office--O..M...G. MORTIFYING. EMBARRASSING. RIDICULOUS. That was his first meeting with Mina, and she (a) instantly sized Max up (b) instantly discerned that Max was (is) hopelessly in love with her aunt and (c) instantly NAILED him on it, as razor sharp teenagers are wont to do. What can any of us say to Max about his Spongebob Squarepants and sponge-brained Patrick Starfish babbling, bubbling, bumbling response? FACE SLAP. I dunno. I ALMOST forgave Max for his heinous, wedding-ring-twiddling moment of cowardice with Helen--given that his love for Helen has so clearly, time and again, reduced our brilliant, Brown University-trained, crusading-every-other-minute Max into a ..ummm...well...derp-talking dingbat? SO, that Max FINALLY, oh-mon-DIEU-FINALEMENT, had his "Come-to-the-River" moment with Helen in the recovery room --after she saved his well-meaning-but-clueless azz (YET AGAIN)-- and confessed TO HELEN the heartbreakingly tender, Heart-of-the-Matter eloquent Truth from which he had previously ran away, it was ...beyond stunning. It was transcendent. But, hey, I'm absolutely not a hater on Max. I rant at him--let's be honest, we've ALL ranted on him from time to time--precisely because we love him. I love the guy. We totally get his total , passionate, and complete love for Helen. We get Helen's deep, mysterious, and incandescent love for him. What we will NEVER quite get is how Max has inadvertently pushed Helen away and at times unforgivably run away from that which has wanted more than anything, the one who, in HIS words to her, "MATTERS MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE." But, after Max's (long overdue) confession to Helen, almost all is forgiven. Sort of. Actually, Max needs to cross the metaphorical and real oceans for Helen. Oh, I HAVE encouraged him--you can't rant at yer boi without giving your bruh due encouragement. I dunno about you, but when I last checked in on Max, I DID try to give him some positive reinforcement, to wit: "Hey. Max. BRUH! That confession? Yeah. That was Manning-Up, real time. Yeah. You done good. BUT, Max--let's get real for a moment. You OWE that to Helen. I love yah, Max. And as you're mah Bruh Max-imus, I'm going to give you what in the parlance of the day is known as "THE HUNDRED": You need to follow up and PROVE to Helen that your confession wasn't a one-off. After all, Max, Helen TOLD YOU on that rooftop, that she really, really, REALLY likes it when you 'fight for US' "So. Max, BRUH, continue doing just that: fight for Helen. "I mean your first...uhhh... 'strategy' over the past two years or so--endless Freudian slips, running away like a frightened boy, Derp-land jibberish that makes Spongebob Squarepants and his dufus doode Patrick Starfish sound like poet extraordinaire Amanda Gorman by contrast--that didn't seem to work, amiright, Max?? I mean, punking out with the wedding ring drove Helen to Dr. Shin. DON'T EVEN THINK 'BOUT WHINING on that Max, as that fiasco is ALL on YOU. "But, I digress. See, Max, I luv yah, we ALL luvs yah, Helen really loves you.... "So. DON'T EFFE IT UP. When you awoke in the recovery room with Helen at your side, you did three things you've never, ever done before: You LISTENED...truly LISTENED to Helen, to her heart and words spoken and unspoken. You LOVED HER COURAGEOUSLY. You spoke the only words that matter--TRUTH-- directly, eloquently, simply to the one 'WHO MATTERS MORE THAN ANYTHING': Helen. And lo and behold, Max, Helen came to you, and you alone. "Huh. Catching my meaning? "So, Max, from now on,drop your previous strategy and from now on just do those three things that actually get you what you've always wanted all along--LISTEN. LOVE HELEN COURAGEOUSLY. SPEAK TO HER THE HEART OF THE MATTER--oh, and by all means, do what Helen herself told you to do: FIGHT for her and the both of you as a couple. And Max, make Helen and Luna your real and lasting crusade, which will make all of your other worthy crusades actually succeed -- Eyes on the Prize, Max, Eyes on the Prize, ALWAYS."

I think we’re going to have one of those “if you burden me, I’ll burden you.” moments. Max is probably going to be looking for a lawyer & dealing with the custody case for Luna & Sharpe will probably be stepping into her deputy role to help him plus dealing with Mina so I don’t think there will be a lot of time, if any, for Sharpwin to really talk about the blooming romance. If anything it will be addressed as the cliffhanger for the season finale and I wouldn’t be surprised if Helen left town for the summer like she did after season 1 to reconnect with family & her religion while Max tries to deal with his in-law drama. Covid messed with scheduling & filming for this season. A big part of me feels like they really never wanted to make them canon until season 4 anyway.

I hope that we each have the opportunity to see and hear them all.
