Just wanted to say I really liked the way Colbert handled Garfield's answer on his grief. Looked him in the eyes, thanked him for sharing, held his hand with both his own. And that's enough, because the pain they feel is their own, and you are not there to say you know it, because you don't. You only have to show that you are listening, that you are there for them. Brilliant.

@@KickSilverOMG I don't exactly think that it's something to be placed on a scale of normalcy. Feelings, no matter who you are sharing them with, are the most intimate human connection. You never know what reaction you will get for bearing your soul as he did, and even though most people will come back with the kind response that this audience did, there are a lot that wouldn't have reacted so kindly. Andrew is strong to be so open in front of so many people. This is something incredible, how strong and brave he is. He takes deep breaths to carry on with poise. He is unafraid of exposing his vulnerability and emotions to the world. He had me crying because I think I my beautiful mother who has read the Bible twice in her life. When she started getting to the point she knew she wouldn't be here to many years ahead was when she read the Bible a second time. She knew every word and meaning in the Bible with a 6th grade education and I can hardly pronounce many of words and the understanding with a full course education. My grandfather taught himself how to read and studied the Bible and taught this to his kids. He never went to school and was a brilliant person in reading and writing. He read many different books on religion and listened to tapes of a well known person who studied the Bible. I wish my grandfather were here to speak to people about what he learned because we would all believe in God and know he really exist. I believe Andrew is a Christian and by this his pain from losing his mother gives him hope that he will see her again in God's time to call us home.

The conversations end, but your father is woven into the fibres of your being, so you can't lose him. Even when his influence on you ripples out to others around you. And then in turn, to those people who pass on some of his essence to effect more people, and so on... The emptiness of loss of the relationship is the contrasting shadow that highlights all those bright moments that you have gained in your years of knowing him. And those memories, his love for you, are yours to keep; the smile through your tears for those personal precious moments. Even as the powerful waves of grief lessen, you can smile that secret smile of knowing, with gratitude for such a man, such a father, as part of your life, and part of who you are.

Well said it. I lost my dad to covid 19 in march. Never expected... My days with him at the hospital haunt me everytime through my head. Until this day , I still cry... Some days aré better AND others justo, a deep hole in your stomach.. its incredible..that he isnt with us anymore. Pray to God, for him.. for all the people who died from covid , to be happy and eternals in heaven. But one thing for sure, they got us in a signature that nobody want to enroll for. But some way some how, we have to deal trough a love one.

Andrew Garfield had been less than a passing thought in my head, until this interview. I couldn’t have told you a single thing about him, other than that I was pretty sure he was an actor in whom I had little-to-no interest. After watching this interview, I can assure you I’ll never forget him. I will watch everything he’s in. What a human being. Sometimes-rarely-television has the power to transcend its medium and truly touch you; this was one of those times.

Andrew Garfield pointing directly at Stephen and Jon saying "You sow up our wounds" is among the most powerful, necessary, and fulfilling gems in late night history. Because it encapsulates the very essence of what makes Late Night so successful and admired. Comedy is a release. It's an escape. And what Stephen and Andrew does in their own respective arts has literally sown up millions of wounds across the world. What a time to be alive. 💙

@@ruraljuror1734 Sorry for your loss, especially due to something that all of us should have prevented. For me, I lost my father a few years back, and I think of him daily. I've done my best to move forward, but it's hard -- especially at the first. So, go easy on yourself. It's really a "tough road" if you were close, as I was with my Dad. He wasn't the best man that ever lived, but he did the best that he could with what he had. So, you are not alone. One of best things that helped me was going to some grief therapy get-togethers and doing some individual counseling. It sounds weird, but it really, really helped me process it. So, I hope you are moving forward and not being consumed by grief, as I was at the first. So, if you want to chat about it, I'll reply. Know people care about your loss, even if they don't say it ... So, you're not alone.
