There is the timeline just resets,TD lore sucks it's extremely short, contradictory and only exists to justify blacklisted suggestions which imo shouldn't be the case.

@@CherryMelodiess The lore is basically that each round is it's own timeline with any character that isn't selected in the round being canonically dead in that timeline, regardless of what happens though the timeline eventually resets later down the line. Also regardless of if Metal Sonic escapes he will apparently always die in every timeline at some point later down the line a bit before the timeline resets.... Which sucks since I wish there would be more lore beyond that especially since at one point there was planned to be a story mode campaign for the game that got scrapped.

They're not really stuck in a time loop, the concept is weird, but the time loop this is just another timeline with those same characters but different, them escaping the ring means the characters from that specific timeline escaped, but there is always that one bad timeline where they die, basically an infinite string of infinite timelines, the bad, the good, and the mid (where only half or only one survivor escapes)
