I really love the idea that children and babies are given eternal rest and happiness, and that babies can come back as the next humans in a world began anew. It's sweet. But also? The idea of warriors and women who essentially, ARE warriors who gave their lives for the Aztec world to continue get a paradise. It's sweet, in a way.

The nine underworld levels are complicated and well-ordered. I really like the respect given to women dying in childbirth as being equal to brave male warriors, and the favor shown to persons who had treated dogs well during their earthly lifetimes.

In 18th-century France, the revolutionary leader Joseph Fouche (and some others) went to a great deal of effort to post the inscription “La mort est un repos eternel” (Death is an eternal sleep) over every cemetery entrance. Sounds like they wanted to skip the Aztec journey, which ended (after a terrifying, painful, and exhausting journey) with exactly the same results.

I love when people do this kind of videos to show the ancient mesoamerican cosmovision. I would like to add that in "Ilhuicatl-Tonatiuh" besides warriors who died in the battlefield and women during the birth-battlefield, people who where sacrificed would arrive there too, whether they where nobles, slaves or captured warriors and this was the most desired place to go in the afterlife.

It's important to distinguish the metaphorical with the literal when discussing Nahua religion, theology, and philosophy. One caveat I might add at the end is that "oneness with the cosmos" (not sure of the source for that statement) should be taken as a metaphor on account of two facts: (1) The individuated soul is acknowledged distinct from the members of the pantheon, and (2) The distinct individuated soul is told they are to enter their "mortal sleep," which may be a metaphor for entering conscious experience in the celestial realm where Mictlan is located. Experiential reality on earth (tlalticpac) was regarded as a dream experience whereas the ritualistic partaking of psilocybin mushroom wine (teonanacatl) was considered a gateway into the true reality of the celestial realm. This is why the Nahua used poetry (xochicuicatl) as one of their means of doing philosophy, for they were trying to balance the struggle of explaining reality regarded largely as metaphysical to our reality, yet with tools of linguistic construction born out of the dream that is empirical reality.

It's so nice to hear Nahuatl pronounced naturally, fluently, and (of course) "catsually". Sometimes, the mispronunciations in other videos can be distracting; not necessarily because of their inaccuracy, but because of their inconsistency... In one video the name "Tenochtitlan" will be pronounced as "tey-NOCK-teet-LAN", the next one will be "TAY-noch-TEET-lan" or maybe even "TE-noch-ti-TLAN"; never the same, and always wrong... I don't speak Nahuatl, but I know, somehow, that "Teotihuacan" (the other famous city-name) is not pronounced as "TAY-yo-TEE-hoo-WAH-kahn" or "they-YO-chi wa-KAN" or any of the other imaginative versions... It seems that people expect the language of "The Aztecs" to be as harsh as the stories we've been told about them, when in reality the language is very soft and musical and inoffensive to the ears, like a beautiful flower is to the eyes and nose, etc It's so nice to hear the language pronounced naturally and fluently, and catsually.

The Mexicas did not speak Nahuatl, their language was lost, the Current Nahuatl varies a lot, from one town to another town, only with some coincidences in the words. Triste, pero cierto .🇲🇽🤘

Not to disrespect the creator of the video, but the pronunciations of Nahuatl were not that amazing especially the pronunciation of the tl sound. You must not know anyone who speaks Nahuatl as a first language.
@dialog_box2 жыл бұрын
actually, the "hu" cluster in Nahuatl orthography represents the /w/ sound. so "TAY-yo-TEE-hoo-WAH-kahn" isn't quite right. it's just "TAY-yo-TEE-wah-KAHN" (better represented as [teotiwa'kan]). likewise, the name of the language is just "NAH-wat" (aka [ˈnaːwat͡ɬ]) not something like "NAH-hoo-wat" tho i might just be interpreting your transliter-anglo -(a word i just invented)- incorrectly

@@nightbling8905 no! Wey... Is just that in the ancient culture of México hell never existed, neither did the devil, satan or Lucifer. Those tricks were brought by the invaders. In the Anahuácan civilization, the connection with God was the connection with the universe. The philosophy of thought in Mesoamérica was on a par with the philosophers of ancient Greece. In Mexican culture, skulls symbolize the rebirth to life from the physical plane to the spiritual plane, death does not exist, a body represents only a vessel where the spiritual being, the essential being, manifests itself on a physical plane. on the day of the dead you are not going to live with the skeletons of your loved ones, you go to the cemetery to live with your loved ones who return to live with those who are still on this physical plane, but assist spiritually. that day you eat and drink including what the deceased liked. memories are remembered, people sing, they laugh, they remember funny anecdotes that were lived with that person.

@jomi98582 жыл бұрын
It's a concept, all levels work together in a upgrading in an opposite going. In Anahuácan culture, wich include other 67 native people plus a later incorporated(officially) Afro Mexican people, used to use the colored skulls to represent the rebirth of individual in the spiritual, which was achieved through the sorrow. in a journey full of hardships that should last four years. That is why all those who arrived at Mictlán would have the honor of living with Mictlántecutli eternal life if they had lived a positive life and adhered to the rules of society. both the Mictlan and the Xhibalba, two different names for a similar place in two Mesoamerican towns. For the Mexicas, reaching Mictlan was to be reborn to life in a deeper meaning, just as it was for the mayan people to reach Xhibalba. México has a great ancestral culture, its true essence lies in the ancient part of its origin, its great ancestral culture was in tune with the universe. of the philosophy of the Toltecáyotl, the guide to good living; the set of rules under which the human being should be governed to live in balance. It is said that history is written by the victors, and yes! it's just that not all winners are usually honest. Thanks for your work. Great video

The history of the indigenous peoples in the Americas is much, much older than a few thousand years. We judge the Maya, Aztecs, Inca’s and others on the traces that we find. But when we dig our way from the present to the past, we must know that the Earth is suffering from a cycle of recurring natural disasters. That is told in the Popol Vuh. These disasters create a cycle of civilizations. There are four primitive civilizations. Sometimes mentioned a sun or world era. The next civilization lives in the fifth sun. This becomes eventually a high developed civilization that disappeared 20,000 years ago. Then the cycle starts again. During the first 4 suns the people were guided by alien deities. Also at the start of the fifth sun. At a certain moment in time, those deities leave the people alone. Led by fanatic priests, the people start offering more and more often and from fruits and animals, they started offering children and humans. They knew that after death, new life would occur and they wanted the deities to return. That is how the Aztec are remembered, but once they were high educated. They left us the sun stone, which is a 20,000 years old warning for this recurring disasters. To learn much more about the cycle of disasters and civilizations, recurring floods, ancient high tech and alien deities, read the e-book: "what I know about Nibiru". You can read it nicely on every computer, tablet or smartphone. Just search for: know Nibiru
