Dude I wanted tail devils SO bad but my parents refused to buy them for me. Also, the plastic ramps were great for sticking up against curbs and using them to gap over grass medians. They don’t slide around this way. When you live in a skateparkless town with no good spots you have to get creative.

Yeah I agree with the ramps. I had that exact X-Factor ramp and the rubber feet on it was sticky af on the hot asphalt so it never really slipped. I would get massive ollies if you timed them right, since they're pretty short it takes a little while to get used to

Powell already had fibreglass reinforced deck's long before the bonite stuff. They stopped making them as the seven ply was a cheaper alternative. Aluminum does amazing on a mountain bike(or any bicyle for that matter) , despite frame torsion when taking a drop of some kind , due to the aluminum frame being tubes connected in comparison to a nearly flat board with very little structural integrity. Lib tech I remember those they told me they had more pop than any other deck
@phlooke3 жыл бұрын
@@russelljenkins6929 I'm sure they probably did suck...I was just curious if I was the only one who remembered them back in the "good ole days" of getting a new CCS mag that was about as fat as a chapter book and had decks and shoes from companies we couldn't find at a local skate shop on the east coast. But From my knowledge of Lib Tech they were like a snowboard company and then in like the mid 90's made a few decks. Seeing as how I was between the age of like 8-12 at the time I saw one in CCS and it had alternating layers of wood and fiberglass or possibly carbon fiber. (I have seen the new carbon fiber decks you're referring to though, but just like the libtech board I had...it lasted forever...like so long that we couldn't focus it if we tried. So as far as durability it was great, but it lost its pop in a month or two.

@@illmuskyhunter3313 I'll agree that shit did have pop, but after using it for like 8 months as a kid....I was dying to find a fat kid or someone who could break it in half for me so I would have a good excuse for my mom on why I needed a ride to the skate shop to get a new deck ( closest skate shop was 40ish miles from our house, so it was either snag a ride once or twice a year there. Or wait for the next CCS mag to find some stuff on sale haha)

You missed that skate product where you screw on a wheel onto your tail of the board so you can easily learn how to manny.

Wheelie Ball was around 1975 but cameras hadn't been invented yet, so little evidence exists. It was a steel ball in a cup that bolted to the tail and "supposedly" allowed "wheelies" though my experience was you just ground to a halt or became a meat crayon.

I'm just really glad that no one followed through on the random idea I had when my high school physics teacher told us to invent something - I loved skating (still love watching edits) and had what I thought was a brilliant idea. I was going to make electromagnets that would sit outside the wheel and act on the metal to literally slow your roll. Wired up a battery pack, sliding rheostat so that it wasn't either on or off - it looked AWESOME. Rather, it LOOKED awesome. 1. It didn't work. Like, AT ALL. 2. If it HAD worked, it would have been bad because of momentum (not the wheels, I was trying this on Kryptos and OJs back in the 80s). When you brake on a bike, you have something keeping you from going forward. On a skateboard ... yeah. It was probably a mercy it didn't work. If it had, the battery pack and wiring and weight would have made it only "useful" for longboards. On the bright side, I learned how to make electromagnets from scratch, learned to do some rudimentary soldering and wiring, and learned a REALLY bad way to stop a skateboard. That all yielded knowledge, and that's progress, right? ;)

An electric motor is an electromagnet making circles. There are electronic skateboards on the market today using your idea.
@The_Dude_4202 жыл бұрын
I ride eboards and the hub motors are pretty much braking like this and I have to say staying on the board while braking not too strong isn't that hard, especially if you have a drop down deck then you can brake actually fairly hard
@spuckett24892 жыл бұрын
So all I would have needed to do is invent a new type of board and add a motor? Thank you, sincerely. It's good to know that I was kind of onto something 😁

Damn, no mention of Lox? They drilled 2 holes into your board and put these lock nuts on top of the board that came along with a special pair of shoes with matching hole in the sole, so you basically lock your shoes to the board and effectively make a snowboard. It was meant for people who couldn't Ollie I guess, to be able to hit and grind curbs or do like 360 spins, but if you can't even Ollie, you got no business doing any of that stuff anyways. More than likely, they turned into hospital trips since you couldn't bail off your board and use your feet to catch yourself so you ate shit way harder. Yeah you were able to turn your foot and unlock off, but who the hell is going to react that fast to unlock their feet when their bailing? Hahahh

@@ShredzShop I got suckered in to getting them back when they first came out in like 2001 when I was 11. I had no problem doing ollie's, but I wanted to be able to finally 50-50.... It didn't help.....lmao. if I would've kept practicing, I probably would've been quite decent at it. I was already able to land kick, heel and varial flips, and almost had 360 flips down. Unfortunately, I ended up liking smoking weed better than skating when I was 13. Which of course led to all sorts of other drugs, booze and partying throughout my teens and 1st half of my 20s. At 32, I think I'm past the point of picking it up again, haha. Don't do drugs, kids! Especially heroin...

@@ShredzShop I also meant to say, that I think Lox were a very localized thing. I didn't buy them at a shop or online, instead, I had found their booth/street team down in Hermosa Beach in the summer during the AVP Volleyball event. They installed them there on Pier Ave. for me. But I never heard about them after that, so maybe it was a So. Cal. thing only?

You want sparks? Just buy some Zippo flints and drill some holes into the end of the tail. Easy.

I thought for sure you'd have Tracker sixtracks in this list. They were awesome, but had a tendency to break at the hanger way faster than any other truck. I used to skate back in the mid 80's, and the way we avoided, (for the most part), fart rocks was with softer wheels. My friends were rockin' the old Powell 85's and they were soft enough to compress, and allow the rocks to be rolled over. Not all the time, mind you, but way easier than the 97's lol.

I rode a Banzai aluminum skateboard board back around '75-76, (without any grip tape) and not only did it get your shins, but it would also go for your Achilles (because Road Runner 2s would catch every little pebble and send you tumbling)..
