Adio died when the housing/stock market crashed in 2008. K2 Corp laid everyone off and sold the Adio name to Payless Shoes in the next few years. Planet Earth Clothing also ceased to exist. A LOT of the companies in this video didn't survive that market crash because a lot of skate shops also went under.

Kryptonics were late 70's era top end wheel, more for downhill and fast cruising though i remember people riding them on the first backyard 1/2 pipe i knew of. I had a Santa Cruz 7 ply (maple, i think) board, Tracker Trucks and red 70mm Kryptonics, in 1978. Big names from the Skateboarder Magazine era, pre Thrasher.

@Tyler Porter Oh man you are correct ... the Think website has not been updated since 2011, which is a bummer, because Think was a good company. Pat Duffy skated for them at one point before going back to the resurrected Plan B. Thanks for the correction

I picked skating back up after a few years, and when I went to get a new board, I was pretty devastated that Phantom 2s didn't exist anymore. I could never find another truck company that felt the way they did. I rode my original pair for 7 years.

"Wrap it up!" hah! Man, this video gave me some nostalgic vibes. I remember seeing many of these brands' ads in some 411VM VHS tapes from the 90s. Good times. There was one brand of skate shoe I bought back in the day called Axion.. I think.. They were alright but i guess they just couldn't compete against the bigger brands. I built my first skateboard using parts generously donated by several friends. They took pity on me because I had a garbage Walmart skateboard. The build included a Girl deck, World Industries trucks, Black Panther bearings, Jason Dill Alien Workshop wheels and Pig risers. As I spent a lot of time on the deteriorating board, one day my dad surprised me with a Chris Cole Zero deck featuring George Bush artwork, paired with Black Kreper trucks.

A company I wish would come back is Instrument Skateboards. It was a smaller sized Cincinnati based company ran by Gary Collins. They had so many rippers on their team at one point, and it was Cyril Jackson’s first sponsor before he ended up on Baker. The graphics were so sleek and the concave was great. Here’s Cyril’s part from their video called “Can’t Stop The Shine” circa 2010 kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6fGXn53aKylbKssi=nDNPxNfVA1ItAusX Also, I miss expedition one and organika as well. Kayo really dropped all their brands other than DGK. Sad because Gold wheels were solid too.

I'd love to know story of phantom trucks and why they died off. Phantom units were solid and phantom 2s were lighter and smooth to grind rails but weren't built as strong and would break sometimes between the bushings but they were cheap so replacing one wasn't bad on the rare occasion one would break. Love this channel and all the content about brands I used to skate back in the day!

Randoms are only useful until you realize you can snug the bolt as tight as you want with Phillips head by finishing by using the nut driver. Stabilize with Phillips. Rotate the wrench. You don't need much effort and you can tighten the bolt halfway through the deck if your little heart desires. Tools
