Yoshi's island 64 looks like it would have been pretty awesome but I am glad it stayed on the SNES for the cartoon drawn aesthetic and more lo-fi chip sound track. I wouldn't pass up either though!

We did get yoshi story on the n64. People don't like it too much. I thought it was beautiful though. My favorite boss fight, the cotton candy monster is on this also.

Shocked you mentioned Super Mario 64DD & not the unreleased prototype that was leaked online either last year or the year before (IIRC). I never played it, but I believe it had a different menu screen going in & there were some other minor differences. Nothing like what you said though, no rideable Yoshi or functioning multiplayer, which could mean it's an early build or those concepts just didn't go too far before being scrapped.

That Paper Mario/RpG 2 artwork is mindblowing to me. Like look at Mario's model that look's crazy I love it.

Animal Crossing is most famous for the beautiful Kitty Dance animation. The series all originated on the 64DD and we are thankful for it's inception even if the game we got was released on more powerful hardware a generation later.

I remember Nintendo Power hyping this up in the early days of the N64. They were advertising Ocarina of Time as a DD game, and saying you could make your own dungeons or edit existing ones and what not.
@fattiger69579 ай бұрын
I think by that point, no one really wanted console addons. Sega had probably poisoned that well. And I can't imagine a magnetic disk drive being great for load times, eliminating one of the main advantages the N64 had over the PS1 and the Saturn. The DD just seemed to exist to solve a problem Nintendo created by sticking with cartridges (the lack of storage space) Should have just made N64 use optical discs from the start. Certainly would have smoothed things over with 3rd party publishers who didn't like paying for the carts from Nintendo and N64 games wouldn't have been so expensive.
@maroon92739 ай бұрын
I agree the n64 should've used any kind of disc based media instead of using carts.

I'm one of the few people who remember the 64DD timeline from before when the LHC incident collapsed wave function between our two worlds. "nyne ellevin" had not been an event [avoiding temporal narrative filters on yt] there, the sun was more yellow and less harsh on the eyes (you could look directly at it for a short period of time without pain), water was more "blue" and refreshing, target had nasal hallucinogenic interfaces for aromatherapy (you press a button of a picture of a thematic place or aura then smell an interface and it would affect all of your senses in a weird kind of hallucination, the Enya one was incredible, I don't know how to describe it, it was big with moms). The last notable thing I remember was everyone was obsessed with tall striped green and black hats (cat in the hat style) and generic "green alien" paraphernalia everywhere before Y2K, y2k wasn't about a "bug" in that timeline but a "UFO event" to be celebrated and all of the adults were excited because it had "been so long" and they knew it was going to be good, like a big world changing event. I don't remember much else from the other timeline but my friends and I were obsessed with pokemon stadium on the DD and the making our own game level kind of things in the base mario branded game/software it came with (the music stuff was cool) and printing pictures onto the stickers machine. There was also a going-into-games machines but I really can't go into that here I don't think people would understand what I'm trying to convey, nor be mentally ready for it, and it's hard to articulate. IF anybody has any questions about the other timeline or details from it feel free to AMA.

I knew about this from the 64 Magazine from the UK I got at the time during the 5th Gen Consoles back in the late 90s. Back then, there was much RAREWARE coverage of their games during development including information about Dinosaur Planet after it's E3 2000 debut until it was changed into StarFox Adventures. It was for this magazine's reason I was perhaps a calm person in regards to SFA being different.

Personally, my exposure to the Nintendo 64 was somewhat minimal. (I drifted to the PS1 at the time.) My cousin-in-law owned the Nintendo 64 (and Mortal Kombat Trilogy for the system). I remember playing that game with him and having fun trying to finish each other off in the game. Sadly, he passed away several years ago. My cousin did get the Nintendo 64. She gave the system to me, and it was in storage for several years until I broke it out and purchased the necessary cords (My cousin didn't have them for some reason.) and hooked it up on my TV... and it still works! I even picked up a Super Mario 64 cartridge for it a few months ago. Which reminds me, I may want to consider getting it modded in the future so that it can use RGB or HDMI instead of composite video.

The Polygon studio should get ressurected! However simple it might seem, I can imagine Mario Maker pro's going CRAZY with a basic 3D level creator! I'd start straight on a PROPER sequel to Lylat Wars (!)

The Zip Disk media should have been the default media of choice Nintendo should've stuck with. However, double the storage space from 64MBytes to 128MBytes, be backwards compatiple with SNES games for the cartridge slot, design a cartridge modem to allow gamers to access the internet(fun fact, that was the plan had the N64DD come to fruition in this timeline), and lanch worldwide in the Spring of 1996 at $249.95!
