[Corrections posted 10 hours after upload]: Well we said at 38:30 that we probably made some errors somewhere and y'all would point them out in comments. Y'all did, so here's two corrections. In the video we say the Shiren the Wanderer sub-series began on Satellaview (referring to 1995's BS Shiren the Wanderer: Save Surala). Correction: it actually started with 1995's Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer on Super Famicom. We also said Metal Slader Glory's cartridge was 8 megabytes. Correction: it was actually 8 megabits, which is equal to only 1 megabyte. Apologies for errors.

- Shows video of an old build of a game we've never seen before. - People ask him to dump the files to preserve it and so others can play it. - He leaves, deleting accounts and becoming unreachable. That's the worst part of video game preservation, is when someone is just unwilling to do it. My guess is he didn't want to share because he's the one that spent something for it (in this case, other games), but he had to know what he was getting into when he shared the information online. Either that or the footage was faked and he didn't want to be called out for it.

The interesting thing about Kimba and Lion King is, if you actually compare the two franchises, they don't share any similarities at all. There was some inspiration, Simba being named after Kimba (though Simba might have been a word that meant something else in the culture Lion King was adapted from, which Kimba might've been named after too) but the Lion King movie and Kimba are two completely different things. The pictures and stuff you see on the internet comparing the two are actually greatly misinformed and take scenes from Kimba completely out of context (and from projects that came out after Lion King) to make the comparisons. If you actually watch Kimba, you realize that it is absolutely nothing like Lion King.

For what it's worth Metal Slader Glory seems to be only 1MB not 8MB tho for a FDS game that's still massive. (Edit: nvm you addressed it haha I'm dumb)

I wonder if you guys will ever do a video of the infamous Kirby GameCube game? Unless there isn’t enough info for that game.
@mrshmuga94 ай бұрын
Kinda nuts that idea wouldn’t be revisited (in some capacity) until Mass Attack on DS, and more authentically in Star Allies around 20 years later.

Hal is extremely tight lipped about Kirby GameCube. There's mention of it in the Iwata Asks for Kirby Return to Dream Land, in which the team reveals they worked on THREE 3D Kirby games before finally starting Return to Dream Land. Masahiro Sakurai's video on Kirby Air Ride also reveals that he wasnt initially supposed to be involved with that game but had to step in because the team was struggling. I wouldn't be surprised if Hal struggled in general after Sakurai left, especially since the director of Dream Land 2, 3, and 64 appears to have left around the same time.

I remember reading everything I could find about the DD when it was being developed. I was excited to get one. Obviously never did.

Cubivore was such a fun game. A few of my friends had copies, I always had to borrow one to play it.

19:00 - whoa whoa whoa, buddy ... That horse racing sim has made it to USA. The Santa Cruz, CA Beach Boardwalk has "Merlin's Arcade," which (at one point, haven't been there in a few years) had a MASSIVE Horse Derby Sim upstairs by the bathrooms. And it was an absolute sore thumb among the Tekken and Metal Slug cabinets... But it was there, I tell you

The n64dd is kinda sad, like they put so much riding on it that it makes me wonder why the n64 even used cartridges at all, and not only the floppy disks. I wonder how things would have been if the n64DD was the main way to play games on it and not just an add-on.

Would the system had been delayed until 1999 had it used floppy discs? That would have been bad! Really bad!
@DJIVision4 ай бұрын
@@PaperBanjo64 The reasons behind the DD's delays are covered in this video's part 2. To answer your question though -- no probably not, it likely would've come out in '97 at the latest.

Cartridge is faster though; games like Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time would be quite different on floppy disk. The Expansion Pak would also be a requirement for any game to reduce the load from the floppy. Funnily enough, without the 64DD, games like Animal Crossing and Majora's Mask wouldn't even exist, as they track the progress of the game in real time. The fact that these games work on a cartridge the way they do is fascinating.

I'm surprised you didn't get in contact with EGM editors? A lot of them still are on social media and do talk about those rumors that ran on their magazine 25 years ago. Like for example Mark MacDonald of 8-4

If only they focused more on the bangers launching such a delayed project with shovel ware was just a bad idea. Like "Sorry for the long wait here's an art program and sudoku but hang on Mario 64 2 is in the works eventually"

A shame that with the Switch being basically a tablet there was no Mario Paint or Mario Studio released for it.
