Bear in mind that every “new” system revision in the Nintendo line of consoles/handhelds rarely was better than the previous. NES and SNES had output limitations compared to their first revisions, the Wii was stripped of GameCube compatibility, and later the Wii mini removed wireless internet connection and required Ethernet. The GB Micro removed GB and GBC compatibility. The DSi removed GBA compatibility and all of its features can be used on the Nintendo 3DS. In fact, I think the only direct upgrade that didn’t bring any downgrades to the system was with the New 3DS, in which all features of the 3DS and the DS/DSi stayed, as well as having exclusive features. To expect that the switch would be any different from the previous consoles was a long shot, and I would think that with Nintendo, in terms of console revision, is being generous with even releasing the switch lite as a revision. In conclusion, when rumours pop up, don’t expect them to be true unless nintendo’s past proves otherwise. Also the switch family is a repeat of the base 3DS family. There was the Switch and the 3DS, introducing a new gimmick that was cool. The 3DS XLwas a screen improvement, similar to the OLED Switch. The 2DS removed the gimmick of the 3DS that made it different from other handhelds, and the Switch Lite removed the gimmick that made the switch unique.

$50 more for a screen that the hardware can't even really use. The hardware can't put out graphics that take advantage of the current screen, why should I buy a whole new system for a new screen that will not have any better looking games on it? If Nitnendo wants me to rebuy the Switch then they need to put out a system that will be able to push 720P at 60FPS when in handheld mode, not the 572P at 15-25FPS that the current system does, this is not a $350 system, it is a $250 system at best. This reminds me of when Nintendo released the Gameboy light just a few months before the more powerful Gameboy Color, I think we will see a Switch Pro at some point because without it current gen games will not run in handheld mode and that will kill the point of the Switch but I think Nintendo wants us to double dip first before making us tripple dip in a year or so. I think they were planning to release their next hardware in early 2023, and are now going to push it forwards to 2022, with a reveal trailer later this year to undercut the attention of the Steam Deck's release. A lot of people will be willing to hold off for a few more months if they want more power in addition to Nintendo's first-party titles. That statement about the Switch having four years left was always bullshit. Remember that they were still technically supporting the 3DS until 2020. 2023 onwards will be the vulture years for the Switch: a few slipshod cross-generation releases, some of the usual "why isn't this on the new system?" games like the Luigi's Mansion remaster, and of course the decades of Just Dance titles.

The hardware part makes sense. Part of the reason why the Switch succeeded was because it had good 3rd party support compared to it’s predecessor, however if it cannot support modern games without major hurdles, it will face the same problems as the Wii U. After all, Nintendo typically only releases one iteration of it’s flagship titles (Mario, Mario Kart, Legend of Zelda, Smash Bros, etc) per system and while they do make other games, Mario Tennis or whatever other game has Mario pasted on it, will not hold players as long as their flagship titles and as such needs support from 3rd Party titles to provide DOOM or Fortnite to Switch users to buy themselves time for the next generation.

I think people are really forgetting the chip shortage. Nintendo loves to lag behind on slightly older tech. I am sure Nintendo would absolutely love to buy newer version of Tegra built on Nvidia Pascal or 12nm process that was used in the 20 series Nvidia GPU's. But with such a shortage, I am sure when talking with Nvidia they were given the quantities of chips they could get and figured that they do not want to get in the ridiculous game of chicken that other console makers and electronics are in. Why not just stick with what they got and ride out another couple years? In the end we will get something "Switch Pro" like, just I think nintendo would prefer not repeating the Wii U, so they are just going to bide time, sell what they have and complete the switch gameline up with a final release of games like Zelda: BOTW 2 electric boogaloo in a way similar to the Wii U, before displaying new hardware.

Nintendo Switch is an improved Wii U. This architecture is their bread and butter, and they're now afraid to commit to new hardware. The only reason why the Switch seemed so fresh, was because nobody bought a Wii U. I've heard an old Interview of Shigeru Miyamoto, where he said that the change to 3DHD was a very hard process for them (this meaning the change from Wii to Wii U at the time) and since then, they've been milking roughly what is essentially the same architecture. Now because the Switch is also "handheld", there's no reason to launch a successor to the 3DS. I'm somewhat inclined to think that Nintendo is not very confident in their next console. Where could they possibly go from here? If they improve the graphics, they probably will have to ditch the portable aspect of the console. If they want the console to stay portable, the small improvement in graphics will make the new console look stale.

Nintendo should go the way of SEGA and develop their IPs as a AAA third-party . Nintendo's last truly power-focused console, and still my personal favorite, was the Gamecube. Since the Wii era, Nintendo has neglected performance in favor of functionality. They'd rather sell you on a gimmic that compliments the functionality of a console than give you a solid system that can push the boundaries of tech. Nintendo unfortunately doesn't value and prioritize the same things they used to when they actually *wanted* to have competitive hardware.
@Ziegfried823 жыл бұрын
Agreed their new systems are JUNK and the only one I bought recently was the 3DS XL. I don't like the crappy Switch controller, the lousy processor, the lack of RAM, low resolution, it stinks. The Wii U was garbage too and so was the original Wii...but at least the original Wii had a decent gimmick. Honestly every system Nintendo made after the SNES has been lacking whether its the N64 using cartridges or the Gamecube with it's mini discs that couldn't hold enough data..if it wasn't for their games they'd be long gone.
@madladofabrit24393 жыл бұрын
When they actually competed the company went down a lot. Sales were rapidly declining with the GameCube and her predecessors. The WII came in and completely fixed it. You two may not like the Wii but the sales did not lie. And from there Nintendo knew they could never compete with these other consoles in pure hardware specs. And so far it's been working. If y'all hate it so much just get a PS or an Xbox. And if u want Nintendo games. Then suck it up
@danieldishon6883 жыл бұрын
Nitendo keeps saying this is the Middle point of the Switch Life Cycle, so they expect the OLED to carry it through the next half before their ready to make the next thing. And they are experimenting on what the next thing is trying to tap into the blue ocean market potential. Reports of them fiddling around with new ways to interact with a controller have surfaced occasionally but seem to show theyve not come up with anything. They have 3 or 4 years to finish up making something better than what they have that's as cost effective as they want it to be. This new Steam Switch might be the spur they need to start improving their next system when they see how well it sold and can perform doing what a Switch does.

@shiftfire45113 жыл бұрын
I mean... I really wasn't expecting much? It's basically the "DSlite" of the system. It adds little while improving on some of the components. Which is pretty standard fare as far as Nintendo's history goes. The major difference is that the Switch itself doesn't need small improvements like this. They're nice to have, but they add very little. In past systems, mostly handhelds, they made improvements that were either much better (like the GBAsp's lighted screen), or were notable and appreciated (like the DSlite and 3DS XL's improvements) The real issue with the Switch OLED is that it improves where no improvement is necessary or significant. The base model has a perfectly serviceable screen, and the battery life increases weren't truly significant. No, the improvement needs to be done in the JOYCONS.

Part of this is that they were shopping around for frontlight providers that would help extend battery life. I can't say much; they asked a company I'm affiliated with for a sample front light, a *Flex* -able front *Lighting* sample, if you will. COUGH-ChicagoLoop-COUGH which they zoomed over back before the company was renamed. You might say it was *A zoom o* -vernight shipment. At any rate, they tried a lot but were not getting the results they wanted. This edition seems to me like they had to make concessions to satisfy an internal deadline.

To develop a new Switch Pro would mean to have a new chipset. And with the global chip shortage, that's not gonna be easy for their production to meet with the demand of the Switch Pro. What I believe happened Nintendo has been releasing a switch model every two years. They ordered a bunch of oled panels for the "switch pro", but with the chip shortage and switch life cycle is clearly coming to an end, they threw together what they had. And delayed the Switch "Pro" til 2023, and it will be called the Switch 2, and will launch with BOTW 2. Nintendo is going to release a new switch model every 2 years like a smart phone, until they die.

I actually don’t think they’re going to be done with I’m the console. If they are that’s sad. However I think that due to the production shortages of parts used for the Xbox and PlayStation, I think Nintendo is getting something out to buy time for production of the better chips and processors to return to a normal state. Then they’ll announce the “Pro” model. I believe the Oled is what the outer part of the switch pro is, but because they could only get the older parts reliably right now, they’re planning ahead.

Hey guys, just to let you know, a 720p screen on a handheld is a better idea than a 1080p screen because 1080 uses more battery life and doesn’t look THAT much better
@CreatorPolar3 жыл бұрын
"1080 uses more battery life" 1080p wont effect anything I have no idea where you got that from but its bullshit
@littlemacisunderrated4123 жыл бұрын
@@CreatorPolar pretty much every source says that, from quora to Linus tech tips, they all say that higher resolution uses more battery. Now if you don’t know why, it has to do with how many pixels are on screen, 1280x720 pixels, which means that 1280 pixels are being displayed horizontally and 720 pixels vertically. Now, if we bump up to 1080p, that’s 1920x1080. That’s a difference of 1000 pixels, so with a 1080p display, you’re using extra power to get those 1k extra pixels, leading to battery life getting drained faster. And on a screen as small as a handheld is already, those 1k pixels aren’t really gonna be noticeable

@@CreatorPolar dude that’s an easy explanation, Minecraft pe uses less resources than the switch, even if your phone could potentially run games faster than the switch, the switch is still using more resources to run the game. Also, the switch has a bigger screen than your phone, bigger speaker, and if you were playing in handheld, it was powering both controllers too.
